Posted January 23, 201015 yr 'Stylo' The first single from Gorillaz's much anticipated third album 'Plastic Beach' and the follow up to the massive 5x Platinum Demon Days. First impressions? Well, it doesn't hit you in the face with its brilliance the first time you hear it, and it's never going to be an indie disco crowd-pleaser like 'Clint Eastwood' or 'DARE', but after three or four listens I'm utterly convinced that song is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! The intro tips its cap to 'West End Girls', but what follows is more subdued - murky midtempo electro built around a brilliantly insistent bassline. Damon Albarn's vocals, melancholy-yet-optimistic, dovetail neatly with the blazing soul tones of Bobby Womack, while Mos Def contributes a couple of raps about love, electricity and the like. Once you get to grips with it all, it's actually pretty catchy, thanks largely to a nagging Albarn vocal hook ("overload, overload, overload...") that repeats throughout makes the song every more appealing and quirky. What do you think of 'Stylo'? How does it compare to previous Gorillaz singles? And the most important question of all: Where will it peak in the charts? My prediction is another number one single for them. January 23, 201015 yr This is amazing. I can't see it being that successful though, maybe top 10.
January 23, 201015 yr I really like it musically, it's just a shame nothing much happens in the track itself. Still, #4 for this I'd say.
January 23, 201015 yr I absolutely loathe & detect Gorillaz. :puke: Of course, sod's law dictates that the more I hate something, the better it'll do...
January 23, 201015 yr Really glad there back- but this isnt as good as their earlier stuff like Dare or Clint Eastwood, but a good bassline I predict top 5, as this is very anticipated but with Jedward and the Haiti song out, I cant see them getting a second number 1
January 23, 201015 yr I haven't felt any hype about this at ALL - not even heard anything about their 'big comeback', the first I learnt about this comeback was the day AFTER it premiered. I think with such a near release date it'll début top 20-30 and slowly climb, maybe a peak of 7 or 8 as airplay picks up?

It's not the kind of song that reaches no.1.
January 23, 201015 yr listened to it twice, it's not bad whilst listening to it but I don't remember anything about it afterwards  top ten though definitely

January 24, 201015 yr Top 10, but even Top 15 could be a real possibility since the release is next week
January 24, 201015 yr This will flop 'Crying Lightning'-styley. And deservedly so. ^_^ Why deservedly so?
January 24, 201015 yr Top 10 I believe. It doesn't have the same immediacy that 'Clint Eastwood' or 'Feel Good Inc' had to be a mega hit.
January 24, 201015 yr it's a poor track but they have the popularity to get top 3. although is it getting quite a bit of airplay? isnt it out like tomorrow to download or something. I get the feeling there is gonna be a more promoted single which will p*** all over the sales for this.
January 24, 201015 yr It's a bit scary, i don't like it... It doesn't really sound chart friendly either it might just scrape top 40 imo, but album will do well.
January 24, 201015 yr This is superb after a few listenings - the back dub is hypnotic and oh so early 80s. It is very Gorillaz too, if you listen to a few of their more obscure album tracks. I don't think it will be top 5, maybe top 10 at best and will be followed by a much stronger more commercial single perhaps. I am so chuffed they are back! No Noodle though as she 'died' at the end of El Manana
