March 13, 201015 yr On 2nd listen. Don't want to judge it entirely based on first listen but I'm not as impressed as I was with LTBL :( Couple of stand-outs such as Hearts Don't Lie and Robots among a lot of filler. On A Mission easily the highlight.
March 13, 201015 yr oh :( doesn't sound that promising then... I'm going to wait until the official release, I don't want to overload myself, there's already 5 new albums I'll be buying next week which I need to devote time to!
March 13, 201015 yr My quick ratings on 2nd listen; 08.5 On A Mission 08.5 Hearts Don't Lie 06.0 What If You Knew 07.5 Love Me Cos You Want To 07.0 Defender - I swear every album has a Tedder esque track nowadays 07.0 Robots 06.5 Superhot 06.0 Boys 07.5 Invisible Girl - Reminds me a tad of Pink's - Bad Influence in the chorus, 06.0 Glue 07.0 Let Me Know 06.5 Superman Overall: 7.0 - A fairly good album overall but there's nothing that stands out particulary, 'Heart's Don't Lie', 'LMCYWT' & 'Invisible Girl' best single choices im thinking.
March 13, 201015 yr C&Pd from my Popjustice post because I'm lazy! First listen thoughts: On A Mission Amazing, obviously. 9/10. Hearts Don't Lie I do like this a lot but it's fairly 'Xenomania 2009 by numbers'. 8/10. What If You Knew This is seriously fucking great. So light! 9/10. Love Me Cos You Want To Sounds a bit Goldfrappy. Kind of. Nothing too special although the last thirty seconds are very 'Men In This Town' in the retarded vocal stakes! 8/10. Defender She probably shouldn't sing quite this high but it's very chilled and lovely (and cheesy). And the outro is quite wonderful actually. Very unexpected. 7.5/10. Robots The lyrics are incredibly cute and I'm always partial to a good dance-ballad. 8/10. Superhot What a romp! Again it's Goldfrappy, perhaps in the way she delivers the vocals... such a good balance of stomper and summer anthem. 8.5/10. Boys The melody is a bit basic but her vocals bring it back. A bit fillery. 7/10. Invisible Girl Empowahment! Also a bit of a filler but more interesting than Boys... 7/10. Glue I'm feeling the gospel-y backing vocals and the strings. Very old-school soul in places! 8/10. Let Me Know The chorus is a bit lacking but her vocals are very commanding. Again the outro is unexpected and very cool. 7/10. Superman An odd closer! Enjoyable though and certainly better than Echo Beach... 7/10. Sweet About Me 2010 Shockingly enough this really works! The whole album is very age-appropriate! Youthful but not tweeny. It's SO much better than the debut. I really like how so many of the songs have outros that you didn't see coming, it really adds something. I also like how she uses the upper register of her voice more, epecially earlier in the album. Overall it's a fair 8/10, and totally the album Sugababes should've made instead of Sweet 7. What If You Knew would be a single pronto if I had my way but I never do so...
March 13, 201015 yr Author Unlike with Sweet 7 2.0 this will actually be worth waiting for, plus it's only a week till i get my physical ^_^
March 14, 201015 yr 11.0 On A Mission – Well we all know this is amazing. It’s a fact. Defiantly one of the best pop records of the past year or so and outdid all my expectations for her comeback. 09.0 Hearts Don’t Lie – Already hard this of course but it’s also fairly brilliant! Brilliantly camp chorus! 09.0 What If You Knew – Love it! And I can really see this growing on me aswell. Bit short tough 07.5 Love Me Cos You Want Too – Hmm, weakest so far but still fairly good 08.0 Defender – Didn’t start off very well but it really gets going towards the last minute or so and ends totally fabulously. 08.5 Robots – Like Defender, this gets going properly after a while – great lyrics too it aswell. 07.5 Superhot – Sexy! I can defiantly understand the comparing to Goldfrapp here! 07.0 Boys – Hmm, not keen to be honest. It doesn’t partially do anything all that interesting. 10.0 Invisible Girl – Conor is spot on in comparing it to Bad Influence, its just too similar in that chorus! But of course Bad Influence was bloody amazing, so obviously so is this. That chorus though. I want to marry it. 09.5 Glue – I’ve so far managed to not use the word stunning – a word I tend to overuse when reviewing albums but there isn’t another word I can use in my limited vocab. Stunning. I really want this to be a single but im not sure if it would work. 09.0 Let Me Know – This is exactly the type of track artists should stick at the end of their albums, not the usual dull fillers but this. Quite cheesy in places and totally uplifting. Its not slick or modern and it wont be featuring on peoples list of favourites from this album but its oh so perfect. 08.0 Superman – It would have been better to close the album with Let Me Know imo but this is an extremely relaxing track, it does the job well and rather Gabby’s vocals aswell. Sweet About Me 2010 – Well this strangely works. Re-making older hits usually never works but this it seems is defiantly an exception to that. Was expecting to be a bit dissapointed after some not-so positive comments but its an amazing album! Probably is better than Lessons To Be Learned aswell. Quality dips a bit midway into 7/10 territory but on the whole a 9/10 album. Fantastic!
March 14, 201015 yr This album needs more appreciation asap. Glue is SO GOOD. What If You Knew is my new friendship crush anthem of choice - sorry Next To You by Jordin Sparks!
March 14, 201015 yr First listen to this yesterday/finished off today, and the album was a bit "Meh" in all honesty. It'll grow, i'm sure but whether it'll have the lasting power, will remain to be seen unfortunately :( 'Defender' and 'Let Me Know' are my current faves
March 14, 201015 yr I want to listen to it but... From the iTunes 30-sec previews I liked 'Glue' the most
March 14, 201015 yr Grown on me after a few listens. Surprised Boys has grown on me a lot - I found it very annoying on first listen.
March 15, 201015 yr Whoever produced this KNOWS how to make a pop album. Catchy beyond words, an album that reminds you do occassionally get brilliant pop albums. Comparisons with Come & Get It are very accurate but hopefully this won't vanish like that did.
March 16, 201015 yr As expected, this album has grown on me, LOADS  Such a good album and the new direction really suits her more actually. 'Glue' is the biggest grower I feel!
March 17, 201015 yr My ratings and mini review based on first listen: 10.0 ‘On a Mission’ 08.5 ‘Hearts Don’t Lie’ 09.5 ‘What If You Knew’ 09.5 ‘Love Me Cos You Want To’ 10.0 ‘Defender’ 10.0 ‘Robots’ 09.5 ‘Superhot’ 09.5 ‘Boys’ 07.5 ‘Invisible Girl’ 10.0 ‘Glue’ 06.5 ‘Let Me Know’ 07.0 ‘Superman’ 10.0 ‘Sweet About Me’ (Twenty Ten Version) ‘On a Mission’ is obviously fabulous, and without doubt the best song on the album (but has obviously had time for me to grow and love it). ‘Hearts Don’t Lie’ is a good song, but the verses are a bit of an earache. I really like ‘What If You Knew’, and it has a lovely chorus but the length is a bit short. ’Defender’ and ‘Robots’ are really good slower songs that are standouts for me, while ‘Superhot’ and ‘Boys’ bring the tempo back up nicely for me. ‘Invisible Girl’ is ok, but is actually quite weak. ‘Glue’ is just simply divine and is one of the highlights of the album for me, living up to preview I heard beforehand. I didn’t really enjoy ‘Let Me Know’ which is filler-ish and along with ‘Invisible Girl’ are the weakest songs on the album. ‘Superman’ is correctly placed on the album, but disappoints after a few good songs and is a bit filler. The ‘Sweet About Me’ (Twenty Ten Version) is quite a good remix, pleasantly surprised. Overall 'Ten' is an average album but is not really strong. None of the tracks (barring the lead single) were too memorable after one listen and I don't feel feel enthusiastic about playing it again. There are a few single choices, but they are surrounded by some filler material. My overall album rating after one listen: 06.5 'Ten'
March 19, 201015 yr I'll be buying it Monday! I've done well to ignore all of these leaks recently! I'm trying to stagger what I listen to so I don't have 7 new albums to digest one week and then none the next :drama:
March 19, 201015 yr Author My theory was unlike Sweet7 this would be worth the wait. Plus i can wait a week, 2months is a lot of temptation when the release date is over 4months later than originally planed.
March 20, 201015 yr 1. On A Mission - 11 2. Hearts Don't Lie - 10 3. What If You Knew - 8 4. Love Me Cos - 7 5. Defender - 10 6. Robots - 9 7. Superhot - 6 8. Boys - 9 9. Invisible Girl - 10 10.
