May 18, 201015 yr I'm surprised 'Ghostbusters' hasn't yet? I've never understood why the OCC are so stingy. They should update the million sellers list. I also read that sales from the mid-90s are inflated so the All Time Best Sellers are incorrect?
May 18, 201015 yr GrAmii - The OCC are up-dating the Million-Sellers List. When it is ready, they will let us see what it is. Be it on their Site, in the next 'Hit Singles' Book, (November), or both. Edited May 18, 201015 yr by zeus555
May 18, 201015 yr ...how is that 'ruining it'? Because songs that are being downloaded years after release are mostly rubbish ones because they're usually ones that have been played to death my commercial radio or sung on X Factor/Britain's Got Talent. Look at Chasing Cars. Ten years ago it would have been long forgotten. Now it possibly has an infinite chart life.
May 23, 201015 yr What about 'Don't Stop Believin' ? I read somewhere it is the most downloaded track of all, and it's been popular for a couple of years now, plus of course the original (admittedly low) sales on vinyl. Also maybe 'Rockstar' which performed similarly in the charts a couple of years back before passing the baton to Journey. Also following the MJ frenzy nearly a year ago some of his tracks must have picked many thousands of extra sales. I'd also be interested to see revised figures for exisiting million sellers, some such as the band aid's, last xmas, bo rhap and mj's earthsong and take that tracks must be rather higher than the 2005 figures by now. My last though is brace yourself for when the Beatles tracks become available to download, they may get hundreds of thousands of extra sales eventually from them.
May 23, 201015 yr Of all Michael Jackson tracks, I'd be interested to see what total sales are for 'Billie Jean' and also 'Thriller' as the latter has always sold relatively around Halloween every year since 2007. On the same topic of Halloween, I'm sure 'Ghostbusters' has sold over 1 million. I'll be interested to see the OCC's revised list of million sellers - we might even have over 100 of them now.

On the week of Jackos death Billie Jean had sold 752,766, and it sold a total 120,000 downloads during the whole of 2009, minus some overlapping sales I'd says its probably sold over 850,000 by now.
May 23, 201015 yr If Thriller ever passes a million it'd probably be safe to say it's the lowest peaking million seller, peaking at just #10 - as far as I'm aware White Christmas by Bing Crosby is the current holder of this record (at #5). I wonder what sales Jason Mraz - I'm Yours are on? That must surely get to 1 million one day.
May 23, 201015 yr Thriller has a long way to go to reach a million, it had sold about 200,000 to the end of 2008 and 120,000 in 2009, whicj makes its sales over 320,000.

May 24, 201015 yr I always thought Thriller was a smash hit :o Was it released as a very late single off the album?

Rage Against The Machine's Killing In THe Name overtook it. Maybe Journey have gone past again now, but I don't think either is anywhere close to a million. Don't Stop Believin' had sold less than 30,000 before downloads. Rockstar has recently passed 600,000 sales, and appropriately has also been certified platinum by a record company thankfully still keen to recognise such achievements.
May 24, 201015 yr I always thought Thriller was a smash hit :o Was it released as a very late single off the album? Yep, last single off of Thriller I do believe which had already sold millions . It only just broke top 10. Smooth Criminal wasn't that big either for the same reasons but because of the video it is one of the tracks he is best remembered. MJ is a weird one, some of his #1's most people don't even know but everyone seems to know his moderate hits. @Danchartfan - in the UK Poker Face is the most downloaded track or at least it was (they announced this late last year on radio 1 so SOF or IGF has probably passed it by now). June 1, 201015 yr Author This from the latest musicweek: On its 50th appearance in the Top 75, Black Eyed Peas’ I Gotta Feeling makes its biggest slide to date, falling 43-60 – but the 4,899 copies it sold last week see it safely past the million sales mark, and make it the 100th single to reach the target. At the start of the 21st century, only 70 singles had sold a million copies. I Gotta Feeling is the 11th song released since then to secure a seven figure sale but the advent of the digital age means that 19 singles released in the last century have also crossed the million sales mark, including such veteran campaigners as Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick by Ian Dury & The Blockheads (up from 979,000 to 1,005,000), Adam & The Ants’ Stand And Deliver (985,000 to 1,007,000) and Take That’s Back For Good (959,000 to 1,042,000). By far the biggest beneficiary of the download era is Survivor’s Eye Of The Tiger which has pounced 40 places in the rankings to move into the 40s with sales up from 990,000 to 1,255,000. I Gotta Feeling is the 26th million seller by an American act. The 101st million seller is likely to be The Kings Of Leon’s Sex On Fire (984.050 sales to date, growing at the rate of about 2,500 a week), Also closing in are Leona Lewis’ Bleeding Love, which has sold 989,877 copies and is adding around 400 sales a week), Gnarls Barkley’s Crazy (983,047 sales to date, growing by 500 a week) and Lady GaGa’s Poker Face (963,391 sales, increasing by 2,500 a week). I wonder what the 100 million sellers are then!
June 1, 201015 yr So, at the current rate, Sex On Fire will get there in 6-7 weeks, Bleeding Love in about 27 weeks, Crazy in 34 weeks and Poker Face in 15 weeks. That all assumes there's no surge for any of them arising from a television appearance or whatever.
