To be honest, BEPs getting 3 consecutive number ones is an incredible achievement anyway.

I still can't get over how popular Meet Me Halfway was. First with it being a sort of ballad and everything, I didn't think it'd be popular, and ballads didn't do very well in 2009. Then with it suffering from 3rd single syndrome. Also, I Gotta Feeling was still so popular when it was released, so I was a bit worried about over exposure (2 songs in the top 10 at the same time isn't always a good idea). And I would have never thought it would be the 10th best-selling song of the year, because it only basically had 2 months to sell, and the Black Eyed Peas weren't contestents, or judges, on the X Factor.

Basically, I'm shocked at how popular it was. I never thought it would almst sell half a million!

Rock That Body has got a hard act to follow!

they did perform on the x factor though...
What jump record is he talking about? Kelly Clarkson holds it for 98-1 or something with MLWSWY

You keep posting this in the wrong thread.

Did asomeone above suggest 'Meet Me Halfway' is a ballad?!

Going back to four top 10's in a row from the same album...

Girls Aloud did it twice with The Show (#2), Love Machine (#2), Stand By You (#1) and Wake me up (#4) in 2004 and then with Long Hot Summer (#7), Biology (#4), See The Day (#9) and Whole Lotta History (#6) in 2005/6

Admittedly their albums sold a lot less though

Oh I think I had this thread open in a tab then another tab as the chart show so it was too much for me and I chose the wrong one when going back from a different tab :arrr:

It's a ballad in the same way "I Believe In You" is one. It's MIDTEMPO, love.

Make that three times. Sound of the Underground (#1), No Good Advice (#2), Life Got Cold (#3) and Jump (#2) although there was a re-release but still likely for all to go top 10 without a re-release.

I don't think it's a ballad either tbh. It's more a mixture of electro-pop, R&B and Hip-Hop IMO.

Yeah i agree but it has got a power ballad element to it - the Fergie intro. But on a whole it's a mid-tempo electronic Hip-Hop song.

I suppose, but then songs such as Bad Romance might not have been so popular either.

And I think it's quite obviously a ballad, and I did a search and I found at least one reviewer who agreed with me:

It’s been four years since the last Peas album, and they’ve got a lot of rap clichés to cash in on. There’s Auto-Tune out the wazoo (the ubiquitous and unequivocally terrible “Boom Boom Bow,” “Missing You,” “Alive,” “Imma Be” and “I Gotta Feeling”). There’s a song constructed around a couple easily identifiable samples a la Flo Rida (“Rock That Body”). A song that rips off M.I.A. so blatantly, I actually had to spin Arular to make sure it wasn’t a direct cover (“Electric City”). There’s a terribly misguided attempt at generation-repping that is a total nightmare reminiscent of Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire” (“Now Generation,” which actually has nothing to do with any rap cliché). And there’s a song that attempts to race to the bottom faster than anything ever recorded by Hurricane Chris or Mike Jones (“Ring-A-Ling,” a song about booty calls that has the three male Peas talking about ding-a-linging women. Seriously). The Black Eyed Peas never met a minor trend in rap they couldn't try to wring a few bucks out of.

That said, not all of The E.N.D. is a total waste. Despite will’s constant showboating (he injects himself into nearly every verse, chorus, and breakdown), Fergie still runs off with the better moments on the album, namely the new-wave-y ballad “Meet Me Halfway,” which is notable mostly for being better than a new -wave-y ballad by the Black Eyed Peas has any right to be

I think some people may not see it as a ballad because the song is also largely based on electropop and synthpop, and people don't really associate ballads with electropop, but you can definitely see the ballad in it. Especially if you compare it to the other major hits of 2009, and the rest of the album, the E.N.D., it's quite ballad-y.

And nice to see at least 2 other people in this thread see it too. :D
