After two weeks of GAGA (which I LOVE) I'm still happy with the new number 1, great song.
I almost fell off my chair when I saw SFG were no.1 this morning. I'm ill off school today, so i can track Itunes progress all day :P
ouch i keep forgetting about alex, flop? or will it pick up..

I have Alex on #71 now. Keep climbing. Oooh and my signed cd came in the post this morning and the b-side SuperFree is amazing! (Both songs are credited Alex Gardner/Xenomania
I hope Alex keeps climbing, his song is deffo better than SFG and Plan B imo!
SFG have a huge lead, regardless of multiple entries for GaGa and PB. in addition, SFG is increasing at a greater rate than PB, i don't see it being caught come sunday...
Plan B at 4 :woot: :D Quite surprised SFG's have climbed so fast. :o

It'd be nice to have an indie-pop-rock song as number-one to be honest. And what makes it even better, the song is English! The only other English number-ones we've had this year are Everybody Hurts and Pass Out.

Bad Romance and Telephone are pop songs.

Replay is R&B and pop.

Fireflies is pop and rock.

In My Mead is pop, R&B and rock.

Pass Out is electronic and hip hop/rap.

I don't know what Everybody Hurts is.

So This Ain't a Love Song would be only the second number-one this year not to be a pop song!

Are SFG really “indie” though? I personally see them as a “credible” pop group...

I wouldn't call them indie at all, I'd call them a pop group. This Ain't A Love Song is more of an indie song than the other #1s have been, but it's still a pop song. Maybe an Indie Pop song :kink:

Alex  to #68.

Hmmm... 'Fireflies' is in no way rock, it's more electronic than GaGa in some ways. And the token guitars on 'In My Head' doesn't make it rock either, it's merely less stereotypically R'n'B. SFG certainly aren't indie but then the term means nothing anymore, I would say they are very much a credible (ish) pop act in the same vein as The Script and it would still be nice to see a GENUINE rock #1 this year. Last year we had 'Killing In The Name' and 'Fire' nearly got there as well, I'm still holding out for an epic Linkin Park comeback. Butt in the meantime, like you said it's nice to have a British act at #1 (and one that's not apeing American trends as well like Taio Cruz).

Scouting for Girls - indie!!!!!! - I don't think so

They are a rubbish pop band that appeals to the same people that like Justin Beiber

tbf I think sfg are more than a teeny pop group, they write their own songs and play their own instruments, I'd say they were a credible pop group.

Incedentally, TIALS at no.1 will mark their 100th week in the top 75 :o

LOL what? Taio Cruz has been doing his sound for a while now ('Come On Girl', 'Fly Away', 'Driving Me Crazy') which all feature on his debut album 'Departure' are pretty good examples. I agree it's the sound that's most popular in America at the moment, but to say he's doing it just to break America because America did it first or whatever, is a bit silly imo. When he's been doing it for a good 3 years or so. (I am not saying he created the genre/style of music at all btw :P)

What? Justin Bieber and Scouting For Girls couldn't be further away from each other if they tried.

Or is it just because they both make music you don't like that you're putting them into the same category?

and also didn't Taoi released last year in UK and stopped at #1 for 3 weeks in a row?

the same song hit #1 on US, that means he didn't changed nothing to fit the US market (I don't buy that $h!t if Luda wasn't he wouldn't be #1...to begin with Luda is failing himself to have top 10 hit and let alone #1)

They are a rubbish pop band that appeals to the same people that like Justin Beiber

What?! Are you kidding? The two types of music sound absolutely nothing alike, and I don't see SFG having legions of girls having fits whenever they're near. What a stupid comparison.
