Please tell me you are just trying to wind me up and not be musically ignorant!

FFS in standard notation, a sharp symbol raises the pitch of the natural note by a half-step; a flat symbol lowers it by a half-step. It is a standard practise for musical acts to harmonise either instrumentally or vocally on either side of the standard notation.

If you have grown up not being able to appreciate this and have only grown up with the spoon fed vaciousness of reality music talent shows were they are supposed to sing on the natural note and if they don't they get slaughtered (like Diana Vickers or those with much longer memories Susanne Manning did) then I feel sorry for you, as when I hear say a Fleet Foxes record I hear something with stunning vocal harmonies, I think that is tragic if you actually think that makes it a bad record just because they are harmonising properly in natural, flat and sharp notes.

and that, as they say, really is that. Well said - by someone who truly gets music.

I fully agree about pointless, boring vocal histrionics (*see Pariah, Saline, Beyonce et al)... as has been said here many times before... just because you can hit a huge number of notes... why feel the need to cram every single one into one line of a song? Horrendous. A great musician realises it's often the notes you don't sing or play that make a piece of music truly amazing. But to understand this notion, then you have to truly understand music.

As for this whole Sugababes/GA nonsense... GA are truly horrific live - that XFactor performance is all the more laughable because the line-up includes a judge who gives supposedly valued opinions on contestant's vocal abilities. Alongside err.... Dannii Minogue. Who has the musical ability of a babboon.

Sugababes are, sometimes, better live, no question. Their live highpoint was the NME awards some years ago, that fantastic version of the Arctic Monkeys' 'Dancefloor' - inspired choice, brillliantly executed. Unfortunately, we're talking about a band who really haven't made a decent record in 5 years.... and have never managed to carry on the brilliance of their first 2 albums. Or gotten over the departures of Donaghy or Buena. This current line-up is pretty shocking, let's be honest here, however much of a fan you are. Heidi has the voice and personality of a dead cat. And Jade... oh dear oh dear oh dear... just terrible. Thank God for Amelie, eh?

:teresa: I also dislike Leona. She makes me want to go deaf.

I'll second that - yeuch - surely the most boring female singer... ever?

Unless i hallucinated you responded to an off the cuff remark i made about Cheryl

And calling you a loon is hardly personal, your reputation precedes you on BJ

Are you joking? This was your reaction when I implied Sugababes hadn't done a great performance in a while :

Contrary to the belief of some bloggers, the Sugababes aren't 1000years old yet. Check back in the year 3000 for Sugababes 368.0 however for your pathetic knee jerk reaction snipe to become partially accurate.

So now really f*** off, I did my best to stay on topic, but if this is not getting personnal, then what it is? You are constantly trying to get a reaction from me, and when I don't give it, you just get harder until I explose. This and your "your reputation precedes you on BJ" just sound like bullying to me, you disgust me.

That cover is sublime  *Plays on iTunes and turns up volume*

I would disagree, they've made some brilliant records in the past 5years, About You Now is a classic and Every Heart Broken of their 6th album is stunning. The last brilliant album they made imo was Taller In More Ways. Both the 3rd and 4th album built on the brilliance of the 2nd.

 My reply was aimed at your original reply to an off the cuff comment i had made about Cheryl. Nobody had mentioned the Sugababes until your comment. And i may add i only pointed out the inaccurate length of time, nothing about your opinion of the Sugababes live performance abilities.

And if that one poxy sentence sounds like bullying it's no wonder Keisha is being strung up for being a bully on this forum     If i was to get personal you'd know about it, trust me dear frenemy. I don't do things for reactions, ever. I'd rather watch paint dry than post something to 'try to get a reaction from you'. I have far better things to do with my life than to sit and attempt to get a 'reaction' out of someone i don't know and will never know.

Time to toughen up mate, you can't cry bully everytime someone says something you don't like. "Your reputation precedes you" is not bullying and never will be.

Nice and hypocritical i see, saying 'i disgust you' while attempting to reprimand me for 'bullying' you.

Don't bother responding to this, i won't be able to see it anyway as you are going on post block. Have a nice day now! :D

Thanks god you've blocked me, at least I'm sure you're not going to go at it again with me, and the forum will be a more peaceful place to be without your posts aimed at me.
To be honest I think personal insults are more like threatening to knife someone in the back of the head. just sayin'.

For example take a record regarded by many music critics as the greatest record ever made:

When this was recorded in early 1967 by The Beatles it was deliberately recorded in two takes, the first a deliberately predominantly flat vocal take and secondly recorded deliberately in a predominantly sharp vocal take by John Lennon. That is one of the reasons why it sounds so great today. It just would not sound anywhere near as good if John had recorded his vocal on the natural pitch notation.

Not sure what to say- musical genius!

You could be a judge on XF- although theyll probably tell you what to say

You could be a judge on XF

That'd be a surefire way to kill ratings.

Having Simon and TIP sitting next to each other would be quite worthwile though  I wanna watch :kink:

WIN!

James, why do you do this? I won't even get into a fight with you, but I just want to know why? What's the point?

It makes me sad, really, I don't understand, and it's just hurting. I'm a human being too you know.

LMFAO. You really really really really really need to get out more.

I just try to be honest tonight, and although I agree a bit of virtual verbal fighting can be fun, sometimes it just goes too far. Words are words, and yes even words on the internet can hurt. I don't feel ashamed to confess that.
Wait I'm confused. Are you saying my words hurt? Because I was only repeating your words...

Sorry but that made me LOL.

James, you know exactly what you're doing right now. In all honesty, even though you hate me, could we not just do our best to avoid fighting, and if not getting on, at least avoid to provoke each other (that's what mods asked us if I remember well too). You know very well that talking about that private msn conversation I had months ago with Mikal could only start an other argument, so I'm just saying there's not point in it. Do you not agree?
I thought this thread was supposed to be used for artist bashing and not for tit for tat childish spats?
I remember that performance of Overload. I was 12 when watching it and there was something about the girls that was interesting. There was nothing else like Overload on the radio. Admittedly, I never truly became a Sugababes fan, I own none of their albums, but with the exception of the fact that those three girls are no longer in the group, they do not look/sound like the Sugababes today. The group has degenerated into everything it wasn't when they were fresh. I know all good groups develop, but is it really a development? Would we have ever caught Siobhan, Mutya and Keisha singing Wear My Kiss? Well, yes, Keisha almost was but I doubt she wouldn't have with Mutya in her corner.
