This thread has been done before, but with the BJSC celebrating its 25th contest it makes sense to invite y'alls to do an ultimate recap! So, Madonna styleee, we want a standard edition of the 20 tracks you feel best sum up the BJSC (i.e. not necessarily the ones you like the most, although there is scope for that :P) and a deluxe 2CD of 40 tracks. If we can be bothered, we might get Aaron to upload the best 2CD to Sendspace, but if not then just have fun going over some of the spectacular music which this contest has introduced you to over the past two and a half years!

I'd say the first disc is the essential one. "Meddle" because it kicked off the obsession with Little Boots in the BJSC. (I should have made room for Veronicas too?) "Money Note" because, as vile as it is, it's a pretty definitive entry. Untouched because Phil loves it so much it's hard to forget, and people now prefer it to the winner. I think the others should be obvious? Maybe the first disc is too heavy on the hyped female side, but I couldn't find many on disc 2 that deserved to be on disc 1?

 

I think I only missed the winners of II, III, VIII, XIV and XX. I could have left out I and XXI too, but I thought it'd be good to show how the contest started, rather than forgetting the first three contests completely. I picked the Dolly Rockers because...? I don't know, something to do with me picking nothing at all from XIV and XX, but feeling sorry for it because I'd picked Dollface.

 

Most of my other choices should be self explanatory - it's generally a compilation of winners, good runners up and songs that were hyped a lot but didn't quite get that top result.

A notable lack of Ashton, Angelicland and Numayania on that, in fact I don't think there were any Angelicland songs on mine either :drama: I'm trying to think what their most 'definitive' entry is...Box 'n' Locks, Paris Is Burning or Get A Reaction I guess? :unsure: I'm not sure that they're as well remembered as the ones you've featured though :(

It did well but I'm not sure that it did. Before Release Me she might as well have been another generic Swedish female which we have 5 per contest of :heehee: I certainly wasn't an Agnes 'loon' until my first play of Release Me. On & On has always lacked something for me, I think I gave it a few points though, it's a decent enough song. I don't think the compilation should be without a song from all of these nations though, such has been their impact on the contest as a whole. I'd probably go for Paris Is Burning as their most definitive in place of Linda Kiraly's Can't Let Go, which has its fans (Jonjo mainly) but I think it's been forgotten by others maybe. Will edit my tracklist now.
