Fab, but stupidly short. At least it's not the usual tits and arse AATW video, I actually found it quite funny, and I lvoe the track

Why don't they just release it now? It's obviously popular and would already sell enough to chart in the Top 40.

You can't really blame people for downloading illegally, when demand for a single is ignored in favour of a high chart debut/peak.. !

I agree. There's a version of the song that looks like it'll chart top 40 this week, but I think it's been disqualified/ineligible/whatever the terms is.
I heard this for the first time yesterday on Radio 1, it was awful! I really do not get the fuss with this and the Gramophonedzie whatever sorta sound :drama: Why is it all of a sudden becoming so big? I don't get it! Sorry but it really isn't to my taste at all and it's the sort of thing that I genuinely cannot see why it's so popular.

I find it uplifting and different, and it's refreshing to hear songs like these instead of the same old generic sounds that usually fills radio playlists I guess. I really love it myself! Admittedly, it's strange that two similar songs have become so popular in the same year, but I can't think of anymore that are about to blow up so it must just be a coincidence  The Romanian dance tracks tend to use accordians and the Stromae song uses a saxophone. I think it's interesting to hear dance songs using different instruments to the norm doing well in the UK!

I really think all of these Euro hits finally crossing back over to the UK charts (even in the lower end of the top 40 - Keri, Lena, Shakira), are huge signs that people are now getting fed up of hearing the same old things over and over again, and I think songs like this doing well (and utterly generic R&B like McLean - Finally In Love flopping) bode well for the future as more obscure sounding dance tracks and Euro hits are likely to be playlisted. As soon as radio properly wake up to this fact and start playlisting and giving mass exposure to the fresher sounds such as the three I mentioned, our charts will suddenly start to get a whole lot more interesting.

Agreed 100%. This isn't reallyt he place to discuss it, but Shakira really seems the odd one out to me. Why should she, as a established artist that's had four top 5 hits, stuggle to get airplay? Really that's the kind of thing that jumps out at you when you think about whether or not radio is biased to certain genres or acts in this country :(

Shakira's very much a 2nd level star. There's Beyonce, Lady GaGa, Rihanna and Britney who can release absolutely anything and get airplay, and then Shakira's on the next rung down - still an international superstar, but not *quite* as massive as the aformentioned acts and can generally only get airplay with lead singles or something that's obviously going to have widespread appeal. I don't know what Radio 1's policy is on playing official world cup singles, in fact I struggle to remember what most of them were - I remember ones from Anastacia and Ricky Martin, but neither were particularly big hits here so I can only assume neither of those got much airplay either.

It's not like I'm directing this solely at Radio 1 though, no commercial stations or anywhere else are playing it either - I'm surprised it's held up so well on iTunes to be honest. Anyway, Radio 1 didn't playlist Hips Don't Lie until it smashed into the top three, so unless Waka Waka gets a huge boost from somewhere, I won't expect miracles :snif: I don't know why radio are always so reluctant to pick up new Shakira material, they all still hammer Whenever, Wherever enough

Radio 1 didn't play Hips Don't Lie at all, never got playlisted. Apart from the chart show of course.

Really? :o

Ridiculous, it was the biggest hit of the year by far after Crazy and easily the biggest hit of the summer! Did incredibly well considering then, 12 weeks inside the top 3 wasn't it! Probably the most insane non-playlisting decision ever...

I don't buy the 'it wouldn't appeal to our audience' argument they usually use either, because it obviously would have done. It was obviously too 'world' or different sounding to them

In 2006 most of the playlist was indie filled, so they didn't have much room for pop. They probably didn't expect it to be a huge hit either
Wasn't Hips Don't Lie the biggest hit in the whole world in 2006? I heard it went to the top of the charts in over 55 countries! I can't believe Radio 1 didn't playlist it. I do remember that it went to number-one twice, which was a lot rarer back then.
'Hips Don't Lie' was by far the biggest selling single across Europe in 2006 - it spent 19 ( :drama: ) weeks at no. 1 in the HET30 (see my sig ;) ).

Yes I believe it was, and I also read that it was the biggest hit of the decade worldwide, unless Poker Face took over at the last minute. The impressive thing about it going back to #1, is that it was still gaining momentum - it didn't go back by default like a lot of returning #1's do, it had 1 week at the top to start with and then went back for a month, having been off the top spot for 3 weeks in the middle! Very impressive :D

I actually don't get this. It's actually horrendous, and it's just like a joke song at Eurovision. I listened to the 30 second clip on iTunes and thought 'this doesn't sound good' ... but I've just seen the video on The Box with the whole song...

CONTENDER FOR WORST SONG OF 2010. :)
