May 2, 201015 yr 20. Texas - In Our Lifetime (1999) - Always been a Texas fan! Prefer Summer Son from The Hush though 19. Kylie Minogue - What Do I Have To Do? (1991) - Funky Kylie! 18. B*Witched - To You I Belong (1998) - Another song that remonds me of Christmas! 17. Spice Girls - Viva Forever (1998) - Possibly the best Spice song (maybe Say You'll be there) 16. Ace Of Base - Life Is A Flower (1998) - Aha! Tune! 15. Cher - Believe (1998) - Vocoder overload :( 14. Jewel - Down So Long (1999) - No idea what this is! Which is odd for me :o 13. Thunderbugs - Friends Forever (1999) - I think Woolies had this at #1 or something the week it came out! 12. ATB - Don't Stop (1999) - At last! Someone who loves this as much as me. This is waaaay better than 9PM (Til I Come) imo! 11. The Cardigans - Erase/Rewind (1999) - Brilliant song - such a creative peak for them (with My Favourite Game)
May 2, 201015 yr Blue (da ba dee) = genius. Such pathos in such a throw away song. Brings a lump to my throat.
May 2, 201015 yr Now 39 actually  It's where I first heard it  Aha! I knew it was around there! Thanks Spiral ^_^
May 2, 201015 yr Author 3. The Corrs - Runaway (1995/1999) 6tMeebL39zE The debut single! It took four releases for this song to finally be a smash and when the public did decide to embrace it the band had sadly re-released on the same week that Britney released Baby One More Time :drama: so in it went at #2 courtesy of a Tin Tin Out remix, which I absolutely adore, but I love the original just as much. Andrea's vocals, the harmonies/backing vocals, the emotion, the melody, the singalong chorus, the optimism and sorrow combining. But what really seals the deal for me is the final minute of the song, that rocky blast into the final chrous, which gives way to a violin key change and the classic 'ya-da-da, ya-da-da-da-da' outro ad-libs. An actual masterpiece. 2. DJ Jurgen presents Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone (1999) lHjNmyzrVvM So just as I was in the height of my ATB obsession I went off on holiday to Great Yarmouth (fun family times!) and as we always did, we had Radio 1 on in the car. I heard this played on the drive up and fell head over heels in love straight away. The following day I had the chart on in the caravan (I had taken my walkman with me!) and this debuted at #4. I hadn't realised it was already out/who it was by, but made a note to buy it the next day. Instead I opted for Now 43 which I noticed it was on! Not to mention the fact that the radio edit never appeared on the CD single, only club mixes  Despite this fact the song was a slow burner going to #2 for three weeks (stuck behind three separate #1's from Westlife, Geri Halliwell and Ronan Keating :drama:) and sold over 600k in the UK, and is my 2nd favourite UK #2 single of all time... 1. N-Trance - Set You Free (1995) Bcf5kzBCdy4 ...but still nowhere close to the song held from the top by Celine Dion's Think Twice and Rednex - Cotton Eye Joe which also sold 600k+ :/ The perfect song? I think so. Kelly Llorenna's a vocal powerhouse and sings over a maginificent rave anthem which absolutely defined the scene for a lot of people in the mid 90's. Proving just how good it was, it was re-released in 2001 for no particular reason and managed to return to the top five for a second time, joining an elusive club of songs that have managed to do so. I absolutely love how this represented the British music scene at the time, the cheap handheld video filmed on a motorway/at a rave. And just when you think it's all over, there's a 1 minute reprise of the verse/chorus at the end just to make it even better. My favourite song of the 90's, the Rob Searle remix was my favourite song of the 00's - this song is unbeatable for me. That's it, hope you enjoyed the idea and rediscovered some lost gems, I know I did in the process of compiling it
May 2, 201015 yr I'm making a playlist with as much of these songs I can find and I'm relying HEAVILY on my NOW CDs - but I'm still missing pretty much half of them still :(

Wow, didn't know that about Thunderbugs :o I guess a #5 entry and quick fall means that they didn't quite live up to the hype
May 2, 201015 yr :o Your number 1 is so obvious and yet I never thought of it. Great countdown gooddelta
May 2, 201015 yr 10. Ann Lee - 2 Times (1999) - Haha! This was on the radio the other day and my mate and I chatted about it for ages. Slow burner for me to start with, but decided it was great in the end. Kept of #1 by Christina Aguilera? 9. The Corrs - Forgiven Not Forgotten (1995) - Nice song from The Corrs, much more acoustic sounding that the tracks from Talk On Corners 8. Eiffel 65 - Blue (Da Ba Dee) (1999) - YAY! I used to adore this, played it so many times. Not sure what I think about it now! 7. Gina G - Ooh...Aah Just A Little Bit (1996) - The best song we have ever sent to Eurovision :o 6. The Corrs - So Young (1998) - Another great song from The Corrs 5. ATB - 9PM (Till I Come) (1999) - Over-rated! 4. Alice Deejay - Back In My Life (1999) - Tune! I do like a bit of Alice Deejay
May 2, 201015 yr 3. The Corrs - Runaway (1995/1999) - We share the same favourite Corrs song. So annoying it wasn't #1 yet Breathless was. Grr. 2. DJ Jurgen presents Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone (1999) - Right up there for me as well. Was soooooo annoyed that Wetflies kept this off #1  1. N-Trance - Set You Free (1995) - Yep, one of the best songs of the 90s for me as well. I guessed this would be your #1 :D I think I may listen to a bit of The Corrs and Texas now!
May 2, 201015 yr I'm avoiding commenting on The Corrs as I'll only be repeating myself when I make progress on The Corrs Rate Results (in the Pop forum in case anyone cares). 39. TQ - Westside (1999) 30. Spice Girls - 2 Become 1 (1996) 29. Republica - Ready To Go (1997) 27. Robert Miles feat Maria Nayler - One & One (1996) 23. Sash! feat Tina Cousins - Mysterious Times (1998) 18. B*Witched - To You I Belong (1998) 17. Spice Girls - Viva Forever (1998) 16. Ace Of Base - Life Is A Flower (1998) 15. Cher - Believe (1998) 14. Jewel - Down So Long (1999) 13. Thunderbugs - Friends Forever (1999) 12. ATB - Don't Stop (1999) 11. The Cardigans - Erase/Rewind (1999) Let it be known that ALL of these songs are AMAZING. "Westside" is just so summery and feel-good, rare for an urban track. Although Jason DeRulo's "Ridin' Solo" is resurrecting that now. Nu Shoat alert. I must say, I'm SHOCKED that Saturday Night didn't make it for you :o  Oi! I'll have you know I ADORE Nothing Compares 2 U, and it would easily make my 90s Top 100.
May 2, 201015 yr Set You Free  I expect it'll top every single countdown you ever make unless Sheelah (or some other appropriate group) do an updated version :heehee:
May 3, 201015 yr Author :o Your number 1 is so obvious and yet I never thought of it. Great countdown gooddelta  Thanks Spiral :D I may do my own Top Albums of the 90's at some pointtt. THIS HAS INSPIRED ME. Will look forward to reading it, although I doubt I'll have heard much :( Let it be known that ALL of these songs are AMAZING. "Westside" is just so summery and feel-good, rare for an urban track. Although Jason DeRulo's "Ridin' Solo" is resurrecting that now. They are an incredibly rare breed, particularly those that aren't completely throwaway. As much as I like Ridin' Solo, I seriously doubt I'll still be hammering it 11 years from now. Set You Free  I expect it'll top every single countdown you ever make unless Sheelah (or some other appropriate group) do an updated version :heehee: Kelly Llorenna singing Set You Free>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Life A tacky scandi girlband update would never do :smoke: 10. Ann Lee - 2 Times (1999) - Haha! This was on the radio the other day and my mate and I chatted about it for ages. Slow burner for me to start with, but decided it was great in the end. Kept of #1 by Christina Aguilera? I couldn't agree more. I actually hated it at first but the charm soon won me over  Thanks all for replying/viewing, really enjoyed reading your comments!
May 3, 201015 yr 10. Ann Lee - 2 Times (1999) 3YaStzbltk4 A chirpy Eurodance song from British singer Ann Lee (partly repsonsible for some of Whigfield's hits :drama:). Released here at the back end of the decade having smashed round Europe first, it stalled at #2 for a couple of weeks sadly as she decided to release it the same week as Christina Aguilera's Genie In A Bottle :drama: It did however beat B*Witched's 'hyped but failed to deliver' comeback Jesse Hold On into 4th place! I absolutely loved this and still do, even if it's a bit forgotten by most now  8. Eiffel 65 - Blue (Da Ba Dee) (1999) 68ugkg9RePc The second biggest selling single of 1999, Italian trio Eiffel 65's lyrically odd Europop hit Blue (Da Ba Dee) is one of those songs that you just knew would be massive from the first listen. Incredibly infectious and a fantastic piano riff/chord structure. Cheese at its best. 7. Gina G - Ooh...Aah Just A Little Bit (1996) kZwW3RbOGu4 Australian singer Gina G was picked to represent the UK in Eurovision 1996, the whole country got behind her and the song went to #1 on the week of the contest having already been top ten for months and sold over 800k in total. She went in as the favourite to win with her incredibly contemporary (at the time) pop/dance song, already becoming a karaoke favourite (which it still is), and it finished...8th :nocheer: My favourite Eurovision entry of the 90's by some distance - and so good it managed to smash in the US, unheard of for Eurovision songs! If the same scenario happens to Germany this year I'll smash something. 4. Alice Deejay - Back In My Life (1999) ldgwAAwj9zs Dutch producers Alice Deejay went out alone without DJ Jurgen for their second single, late 1999's Back In My Life. A more downbeat affair than its predecessor although still lyrically full of sorrow for Eurodance (as were Will I Ever and The Lonely One - luckily she had found love by Celebrate Our Love!). It was completely different to Better Off Alone but I fell in love hard and fast - it reached the UK top 5 and sold over 400,000 copies, so I wasn't the only one! 2. My list would be the who's who of cheesy pop with Shania, The Lighthouse Family and Alice Deejay
May 3, 201015 yr Some of these songs that GD chose come straight from the "forgottom gems of the 90s". I'd say I like a good 80% of all the tracks listen in this countdown. Of course being "The 90s Vault", I'd have been gobsmacked has 'Set You Free' finished anywhere but first. I've known for too long how much GD adores the track. Muchly deserved as it is a genuine club anthem - still sounds excellent 15 years on.
