Keane and The National battle for albums chart supremacy

Singles

By contrast, the singles market is looking a lot more stable. Relentless/Virgin’s Roll Deep with Good Times and the RCA-issued OMG by Usher featuring will.i.am, which filled last Sunday’s top two places, continue in the main positions, although Aggro Santos featuring Kimberly Wyatt with Candy and Warner Bros’s Jason Derulo with Ridin’ Solo are closing in on them.

Santos’ Future Records/Mercury single was a new entry at five last weekend but is now placed third at this stage of the week with a 68% week-on-week sales increase, while Derulo’s sales are up 135% on the week to place it fourth.

Two other singles are enjoying big enough sales increases that could move them up into the Top 10. Fyfe Dangerfield’s cover of Billy Joel’s She’s Always A Woman, currently soundtracking a John Lewis TV campaign, has the Geffen signing ranked in sixth place so far this week having been at number 14 on last Sunday’s chart. Meanwhile, Alexandra Burke’s Syco single All Night Long has nearly doubled its sales on the week to currently place it ninth.

There are no new releases at this point figuring in the Top 10 positions, but lower down the Top 40 entries are lining up from UMTV’s Vika Jigulina, RCA’s Christina Aguilera, Epic’s Glee Cast with their version of the Bonnie Tyler hit Total Eclipse Of The Heart and Hard2Beat’s Fugative.

Albums

Night Train could give Keane four number ones out of four album releases, after taking an early sales lead in this week’s artist albums market.

However, the band’s Island-issued eight-track EP faces stiff competition from 4AD’s The National, who are little more than 3,000 sales behind with their newly-issued fifth album High Violet, according to OCC data. It will easily become the highest-charting album yet for the Brooklyn band, who have not previously broken into the Top 40.

Keane and The National albums could be joined in this Sunday’s Top 10 by three other newly-issued albums, with Foals’ Warner Bros album Total Life Forever currently the week’s fourth best seller and Interscope/Polydor’s Lady GaGa placed fifth just a few hundred sales behind with The Remix. Slash’s self-titled Road Runner set is placed seventh.

The high number of new entries will likely result in a big fall for Diana Vickers’ RCA debut Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree which followed its introductory single Once by last Sunday entering at number one.

In a busy week for new releases, the chart lower down will welcome new entries from Warner Bros’s Dead Weather, Surrender All’s Unkle, J/RCA’s Alicia Keys with a first retrospective, Atlantic’s Toni Braxton and Ash on the Atomic Heart label.

Dreading to see where Diana is :(

Can I just stress this out when firing for a request for other artists, please be patient, as the update takes priority before anything else and it takes time to re-edit and some mistakes do creep in.
Hope to see Adam Lambert top 30 in singles (and albums) *Fingers crossed*
Hope to see Adam Lambert top 30 in singles (and albums) *Fingers crossed*

Me too :)

The single should *hopefully* be in the top 30 :)

Diana fell out of the top 5 afterall. I saw her last night and she was totally amazing, and lovely. :( She deserves all her success. I'm sure the great second single will pick it up and keep it selling steadily.

I don't see Keane holding on, or having an impressive overall total either for that matter. Irrelevant band now much?

Brilliant for XTina. I think she will be in the top 10 by Sunday. I predict her being at 7 or 8 if her steady rise on Itunes continues.

Edited by Madonna FAN

I hope Keane can hold on, Toni Braxton doing really well also.Great for Alex, Adam,Christina and Fugative hope they can all climb during the week.
Candy is #3 :cheer: :cheer: Hopefully it will go higher! This can be #1!
