No, I'm saying the idea of compromise is a vague one. And we both agree that the immediate obvious choice - swapping back and forth - isn't preferable: "the problem is that the compromise will be anathema to most people. The people who want semis will object to the contests that are one big final, and vice versa."

I find swapping between both formats alot more preferable than having people unhappy (which will undoubtedly be the case if either yes or no wins here), here comes the big problem though. People need to realize that this should be about coming to a decision that most people can be happy with...it's not enough to just win by a tiny margin and have many people unhappy with it because we'll only end up coming right back to another poll when World War 3/4 comes.

I'm not putting down compromises before I've even heard them. I'm not making something which is potentially loads of different ideas a poll option purely because it'll give an entirely inaccurate look to the polls - it will make it seem like everyone is agreeing on something when they're really not, and eventually get used by one group to push through their particular idea under the pretext that it has backing that it doesn't have.

Maybe not, but you're not actually hearing them. Would you be willing to hear them if we had a thread for people to voice their ideas on a compromise? (a thread without :P's or :kink:'s)

I guess I probably confused you when I said I was voting for the Compromise option, I didn't actually mean add a Compromise option. I meant more that I was voting for the need to compromise. I agree adding an option of "Compromise" would be completely crazy....but I meant more like adding detailed compromise ideas to the poll. (to a completely new poll in fact)

This is just a suggestion but what if we took a month or so off from the contest and tried to really establish something most of us can be happy with? With loads of polls and proper serious discussion (with everyone involved not just mods)....That way the whole contest wouldn't keep breaking down with needs for change and we could have something that most of us could roll with. It might end up being a bit boring but it could very well get the job done. Then we wouldn't need to deal with this sort of thing for a long long time.

Monica: (to the restaurant customers) Excuse me, excuse me, hi, I'm Monica Geller.. I'm the head chef here.. (pauses as if waiting for something) .. Ok, I was actually expecting a little applause there, but whatever! Ok, quick question: by a show of hands, how many of you were bothered by this woman's singing outside? (a few people raise their hands)

Phoebe: Ok, ok, how many of you enjoyed the music outside? (a few people raise their hands) Ha!

Monica: Alright, let me ask you this question: How many of you thought the music was fine, but not in keeping with the tone of the restaurant? (a few raise their hands again) .

Phoebe: Ok, well, who identified the tone of this restaurant as pretentious comma garlicky?

Monica: Ok who thinks the food is delicious and a little pretention never hurt anyone? (a few raise their hands)

Phoebe: Ok, well, alright, who thinks the food is fine, the music was fine, but your evening was ruined by this incessant poll taking? (all raise their hands) .

DON'T CALL ME.

i think he is :(.

but yeah i see no need for semis for the reasons said already, even though they've been very advantageous to me, i don't see my luck continuing.

I'm not exactly sure what this is getting at....but not necessarily just poll taking but deciding how to run something isn't meant to be fun, it's supposed to try and get something working so that we can have fun in the future without all this.

It's like when you're building the foundation/base of a building, you may not like mixing cement and doing all the rough work but it needs to be done or the building would fall down.

I swear it was 20/22 on the poll a minute ago

I asked for my no vote to be removed, I don't think either option will really solve anything. Especially when there's such opposition on both sides.

We shouldn't forget that not all people who voted for 'no' option actually are against the one big final by the way!

I LOVE this part

How is that? If you vote no then that obviously means you don't want the yes option....

or at the very least that it's the less of two evils...

If you read comments of some of those people you'd see that they're not actually standing passionately against the new format and most certainly wouldn't leave like James, etc.

OR quite the opposite. You like both formats almost equally but you vote for the 'no' option just for a reason it was pretty quiet in here during the voting period.

Also most of the No's came from people that comes on here only to reserve, confirm and vote...I don't understand how they find boring new system when most of them didn't show up even when we were with semis...looks like reading through topics un-logged in is what they call FUN.

Just let the host decide each month, easiest solution, in the end they are the ones who have to get used to the idea and play with it.

The problem with one big final eventually members will be put off listening to 48 tracks... the tracks end up forgettable, and they just vote 16 tracks willy nilly :heehee: just for the sake of it, and you end up losing points for your own track. I can see myself pulling out to be honest. Plus I just couldn't be bothered with BJSC26 with drumming more support for my own track, the big final just put me off big time.

I agree Addy - 'fun' comes from making the odds, predictas, guesses, speculations etc...we had 9 predicta votes and about 7 sets of odds - out of 48 people...

You can't speculate on nothing - if more people took part in these, discussion would increase as people argue about what's going to do well/flop

Even when we had semis, it was only the same 5 or 6 of us discussing things...

*starts thinking aloud*

Maybe if the number of confirmations gets over 40 - we have semis, if less - then one big final! (But again if people are even against listening to only maximum 10 additional tracks, which is their main arguement, then i give up :drama: :( )

I think you're putting words in "our" mouth. I've read all of the comments, and most of them geniunely disliked the new format. Just because most of us aren't thinking about leaving the contest if it get's trough, doesn't mean we still dislike it or some are - as you say it - passionately against the new format.

I'd be happy with that...I don't have anything against the semis - again for me it's 55/45 - I'm not passionately for the new format at all, but I slightly prefer it.
