Not really - if we leave because of the result of the poll, it's because we don't like it? If you don't enjoy something, that's no point continuing it. If I didn't enjoy taking part in a sport, I wouldn't keep playing it. That's the same in this situation. For me, I don't think changing the system would make enjoy it that much - I liked the stages to get to the final, it made it exciting. The fact everyone makes the final is dull to me - that doesn't mean I'm throwing my toys out of the pram?! :blink:

 

When i swam i went through multiple patches where the last place i wanted to be in a pool. Now i've actually given up, i miss it every day. It's gonna take me all summer to get back into it :(

 

Point you ask? Sometimes you go through patches of disinterest, that's life, it's worth sticking with it for a little bit to see if the disinterest continues or if you are just going through a patch.

I don't think I'd ever change my entry plans based on whether I had to qualify for the final or not. If everyone else doesn't like what I've chosen that's fine, I'll watch from the sidelines after I DNQ - if it's not my favourite eligible/non-cheap song at the time, I ain't sending it :smoke:

I'd try doing the recaps (videoless, only sound and random images), i'm not under Windows XP after all like last times when i failed miserably doing recaps :drama: Mp3's will be done definitely so count on me there btw :D

I'm going to make a call on this one, and it's a pretty difficult decision so I'll say this now: I don't care if this decision makes you unhappy, DON'T jump on my back about it, or so help me I will go Silas on you.

 

In recognition of the fact that: a: it is ridiculously close between the two options, b: that the last contest was hardly the best reflection of how this will work in practice, as, for one, I was barely around to do my job and try and stimulate discussion on the contest, and c: that this option is by far the most convenient for Rich, who will be hosting, I have decided on the following:

 

- The one big final approach will continue on a trial basis for another contest, but with alterations - a shortened voting period and the guarantee of a recap, along with any other suggestions people wish to make.

- At the end of BJSC XXVII, another poll will be taken. If the one big final option doesn't get a majority of 55% of the votes, then we will return to the semi-finals option and see if there are any other measures we can take in order to ensure all songs get a fair chance.

 

You have another day to make suggestions for improvements to the one big final, after which I will close this thread and invite Rich to open the banlist.

Even if everyone votes in both semis, I'd still be seriously against that idea. I don't like that some songs qualify and some don't and the ones that don't get stats recorded / it makes the final the most boring thing ever. Honestly, in my opinion, the majority decided and one big final won, even if it was just by a bit. Sometimes you just have to put your foot down and make a decision because it's literally impossible to please everyone. If they're not happy with it, they can shut up and leave.

 

Keep on experimenting / whatnot, but this whole process has been tedious and tiring and I think it's been exhausted and everything that could have possibly been said has been. I'd rather just no polls exist at all even if we went back to semis. I'd be fine with it. I'd just probably quietly stop participating; it's no big deal.

 

At this point, I just want a solid decision, especially after the next contest is done. No more flip flopping and trying to please everyone.

 

(Though I don't see why the one big final has to get 55% of the vote to continue after the next contest, surely majority would be the way to go? Not exactly how polls go? You'd be going with the minority by going back to semis unless it actually won the poll...)

Actually, it hasn't. Far more people have been complaining about how the two weeks are 'boring' than have been complaining about how they don't have enough time to vote! (Indeed, most of the complaints on voting have been on the difficulty of voting, rather than not having enough time!)

Actually I have to say this idea to vote in both semis is a tad sillly. Just bring back normal semis ^_^

What if there was a split? A complete divide between the people who want one big final and the people who want semis.

 

BJSC becomes a more eurovision orientated contest like it was in the past

 

and another contest is set up which is more general....maybe even get rid of the eurovision voting style (if it's desired) and has a simple one big final.

 

(or even vice versa BJSC can become the more general one and a different contest is set up which is more eurovision orientated with semis, it doesn't really matter which way they go)

 

Then people can choose what they want and ignore the other one, have each contest organised by different people.

 

That wouldn't keep people happy either because they'd say how crazy and inconvenient it would become but that's to be expected.

and seriously where are the other 20 people who voted for NO...it's been almost 24 hours since we decided to go with one big final and no one here (except Sabre and James) came to express their unhappy feelings about it. My point just got proved what I said earlier that most of the NO's came from people that they're not active in this contest even when we were through semi stages.

What do you mean? Everyone was told to express their opinions to legitimize their vote on the poll. The NO side has been active too and probably most of them doesn't feel there is much to say anymore btw. But only Sabre and James? no, read through the pages plz :drama:

Jerick just felt to say NO, so did pyryniemu(?), Lewis etc etc... but let's not start pointless argument since YES already won :D and I'm happy about it.

I'm not really unhappy with a big final, I just would prefer the semis but overall I'd prefer to see something solid.

Tbh, I might be supporting semis - but if 'one big final' wins next time by getting 54% or whatever - they should get their one big final permanently - because that option got the majority.

I'm leaning slightly over to the 'big final' but if semis won (or rather the big final lost) by a majority, I'd have absolutely no worries whatsoever about going back to the semis format. I'm hardly passionate about one option over the other...

I'm unhappy with one big final, but it dosn't matter what I say anyway

I find the big final very time consuming to listen to all songs, that takes like 3 hours. If I listen to them over time, I'm going to forget what some songs were like.
