Should the all-in-one format used in BJSC XXVI stay as a permanent feature? : YES

What aspect did you like the most about the new format? : everyone votes for everything and new points system

What feedback do you have on the new format?

I can send Nora without fearing will it Q or DNQ ...despite she flopped hard ;) still 10 people found her amazing so mission accomplished and probably would have been someone else instead of her if we were through semi's...also points system is .

I also have a question...how we are going to name this era (3rd era)? And are we going to separate records since now more than 5 songs can easily top 200 marks.

I decided to vote rather than drag it out:

What feedback do you have on the new format? - I just feel like getting through 47 songs can really be quite a slog sometimes when there isn't something like the semis to break them up. Also I found it hard to get through all the songs in just one or two sittings and I just feel a bit worried that my votes suffered as a result. (apart from my top 3 pointers) I miss the semis too, they make it very interesting and offer something of a mini challenge. Also I think Rich mentioned it earlier but the forum seemed pretty barren with talk compared to last month.....

One thing I'll say though is that the new system did give a fairly unexpected winner (even though we all knew Psycho would do well anyway) so I'll give it props for that.....

post-Natalie? :kink:

I think records will have to be separated, or we could just get Pavel to recalculate the entirety of the results up until now.

Yes I like it, but this is my first contest.

Everyone is involved and I like new points system.

Opposite opinion, but I don't mind it.

What feedback do you have on the new format? It was alright, and I liked the excitement of 18pts rocketing people it. However, if it wasn't for me receiving votes, I'd have been bored out of my brain for 2 weeks. And if there's no fun, then there's no point this contest existing.

I don't think changing history would be a good thing

Stipulate the divisons in the stats thread but have two different totals or something - an equal weighting total (where Mdice would still be in the lead) and a total points accumulated total, like we've always had, which has obviously been affected before now by level of participation (compare BJSC IV to XX or something for example)

We could have both the variety and the semi finals though. The argument about risks not making the final could easily be solved by allowing people to vote in both semi finals? If the song is $h!t, then it stays in the semi. All hail a fair, perfect quality final! :cheer:

Though not sure if people have the time for that..?

Semis makes the contest more interesting/exciting, and adds more activity to the forum during the contest days.

By making it more of a challenge to make it to the final, you add that spice of competition which is a part of what this song contest is about.

Less work for the host, yes. But that’s the thing about hosting, and has been for the majority of the contests here. A host is supposed to be more present during the contest too.. and not just one who puts up a thread or two at the beginning, and leaves until the final show. (Though all the hard work to be done for the final show is to respected immensely!)

What feedback do you have on the new format? I literally fought my ass off to get this in place, see previous posts pls.

I'd prefer less work. Not because I'm lazy but because it's stressful (particularly the day or more it takes to prep the final) and the last thing I want is extra stress :heehee: I'm pretty sure having two semis and making it compulsory to vote in both wouldn't be that popular though, although I always listened to all the songs in both semis anyway, for fear of missing something great in the opposite semi :drama:

The host is still responsible for opening the threads, organising and receiving votes and double and triple checking them for accuracy, making scoreboards, doing final prep, making banners etc..., possibly making a recap. Loads of work and effort I'd say :o

Voting for both semis is just pointless. So you're listening and voting for all the songs in the semi, only to have less entries in the final - yet you have to vote 3 times and listen to all the songs anyway.

Not all songs though, about 6-7 less but still, i absolutely agree!

You're right Rontvia! Of course calculating the votes are a big job too!

6-7 less? If you're voting for both semis you have to listen to all the songs, except the hosting country maybe. Or am I missing something?

he meant in final stage.

If people want a return to semi's what about a return to the old school days of a single semi and 10 AQ's?

Or, seeing as this is a contest hosted by Rich a Semi to get rid of 3 songs :kink:

he meant in final stage.

Yeah but to get to the final stage, all songs were listened to and voted. Just seems more work done, only to get less countries in the final.
