When I feel the poll has run its course I shall close it and announce the results and what format the contest will take for XXVII.

So essentially when the new format is winning and its been like three days?

^^ What do you mean 'when the new format is winning'?

It's been 'winning' the whole time, judging by the poll. Obviously the majority just don't feel the same way as you do...

No, when as many people as possible have voted in the poll it'll be closed.

OK PERHAPS that wasn't worded in the best possible way. What I was implying was it would surely make more sense to impose a time limit, say a week on voting?
how come we have 47 votes on second poll and yet only 34 on main one?

Because the second option is multi choice...

We usually close it before the time limit we impose as everyone has voted and discussion has run dry. When those two things happen we'll close this. I haven't actually voted yet.

When there's like 50 people voted and it's been only 3 days since the starting of the Poll, and one choice is winning over the other for about 10 votes - is there really a point to leave the voting open, James?!

NO.

What aspect did you like the most about the new format?

I liked the fact that you heard EVERYONE heard EVERY song!

What feedback do you have on the new format?

The point above was it's only good point to be totally honest. I hated that I had to seive through 48 songs and compare them with each other. I find less than 30 in a normal final difficult enough as it is...let alone near on 50. That's why i'm so keen to keep the final to only 27 participants like it always was when i started... It's not an issue with the amount of time we have to vote either, the 2 weeks didn't make the songs any easier to compare against each other tbh. I also love the competition that the semi's bring, i love the fact that you need to EARN a place in the final and it isn't spoon-fed to you. Enterring a quality song would ensure that. My 'quality' song was rewarded with a low finish (i think)...i would have preferred to DNQ because that would give me an incentive to find a song that i would hope a lot of people love and would allow me to qualify the next time round...

Just my opinions though...

Although I can't say I enjoy reading that my entries are 'god awful' seeing as they basically represent my musical tastes and personality on a wider scale, music is clearly subjective and what one person despises another person will love so it's not the end of the world. God knows I've done it myself, insulting people's entries (Eledan last month :kink:), it's hard not to if you passionately dislike a song - this is a music discussion forum after all, so I don't have a problem with people voicing their opinions and taking everyone's views into account! Nobody ever said that we should be secretive in BJSC, people should be as free to give their opinions here as they would be in a thread in the pop forum.

The best thing for me with Not A Love Song, Robots In Love and now Psycho though - and the reason I maintain that winning with an unknown act/song is better - is because I know that 95% or more of the people voting for it will have heard it here first, and probably wouldn't have heard it without the contest (no way will it ever get a UK release), which is still, and always has been the essence of BJSC for me (and yes I know people take the mick of me making it a mission to try to debut an artist in every contest - I read Symphony Hills :heehee:). Yes, it's all about finding the best song, but it's all that much more rewarding when a song wins from the bottom up, with no support base to start off with. Winning with something like 'My First Kiss' or 'California Gurls' would mean absolutely nothing to me personally, whereas finishing 10th with something unknown does - but this is just my personal view on the contest, others get other gratifications from it. It's more about the discovering and thrill of introducing new music to people for me rather than desperately trying to find a winner/top ten every month by sending something most people know anyway. Finishing top five is just the icing on the cake, rather than the primary aim.

On another note, I will personally listen to anything with an open mind and usually give every song two listens at the very least, but if I don't like it then that's just the way it is, I'm not going to waste my time listening again and again to something I can't stand - I do vote for more indie entries than some countries do but I don't consciously think 'I must try to vote for some indie entries' or 'I'm voting for too much pop here', I just literally order all of the songs from best to worst and the top 15 formulate my votes, whatever the genres happen to be. This does tend to be dominated by pop, but that's the genre I love the most, for better or worse

The all in one format is really good, finishing 41st isn't as disheartening as DNQing 6 times in a row as I'm sure Cian and Alexxx'll tell you as well :P. I wasn't crazy about the new points system, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. + The new system encourages risks and hopefully a wider spectrum of songs will be entered.
I just didnt like it..

Valuable argument

You can't really call 20:17 a rave review for the new system however - That's still pretty damn close in my books so we should let EVERYONE vote before we close the poll I think...
I love how every vote in BJSC is always ridiculously close  we literally never agree on anything!

Maybe dictatorship isn't really such a bad idea :kink:

Yeah, but there must be reasons WHY you didn't like it?
