I'm off on my holiday on Wednesday and I've cleared 1GB of stuff from my ipod so that I have room for some new sounds to listen to... only problem is that I don't know what to replace it with.

It'd be just lovely if you could suggest some acts (and their best tracks) for me to check out and take with me. Thanks! :D

Most recent album additions to itunes are:

Flying Lotus 'Cosmogramm'

LCD Soundsystem 'This Is Happening'

Kelis 'Fleshtone'

Broken Social Scene 'Forgiveness Rock Record'

David Holmes 'The Dogs Are Parading'

The Radio Dept 'Clinging To A Scheme'

Delorean 'Subiza'

Music Go Music 'Expressions'

Caribou 'Swim'

Fang Island 'Fang Island'

Tanlines 'Settings'

The Cinematic Orchestra 'Late Night Tales'

Doves 'The Places Between'

Jónsi 'Go'

Rufus Wainwright 'All Days Are Nights: Songs For Lulu'

Bonobo 'Black Sands'

Erykah Badu 'New Amerykah Part II: Return Of The Ankh'

Laura Marling 'I Speak Because I Can'

I'm very open to different genres (generally speaking I avoid rap and r&b but aside from that...) and I'm more interested in people just mentioning some stand out tracks, even if the rest of the parent album is awful.

It doesn't have to be all new music either, just a list of people's less obvious favourite songs would be good.

I imagine you'll have most of these anyway but five albums I've got this year that I love:

The Golden Filter 'Voluspa'

Two Door Cinema Club 'Tourist History'

Codiene Velvet Club 'S/T'

Mumford & Sons 'Sigh No More'

Band of Horses 'Infinite Arms'

I only have Mumford & Sons out of that lot... which 2 or 3 tracks would you go for from them?

I second Mark's post, the Two Door Cinema Club album is excellent.

Frank Turner - Sleep Is For The Week

Frank Turner - Love, Ire & Song

Frank Turner - Poetry of The Deed

Cutaways album 'Earth and Earthly Things' is fantastic, especially if you're into your NI electro-indie a la TDCC. The best tracks are 'Lovers Are Lunatics' and 'Hey Map My Way.'

The Wonder Villains are also fantastic as well, they're currently playing the Radio1 big weekend so they will be massive next year. May I suggest the fantastic 'Oh Peter' as a starting point.

Finally, you should check out Rams' Pocket Radio and their track 'Dogs Run in Packs.' It's like the song you'd hear at the end of an episode of the OC, where the unrealistically beautiful boys and handsome girls make a discovery and grow a little inside.

just download every song by Streetlight Manifesto. such a good band.

HMHMHM

neko case 'fox confessor brings the flood'

talking heads 'remain in light'

linda perhacs 'parallelograms'

pictureplane 'dark rift'

future islands 'in evening air'

active child 'curtis lane EP'

parenthetical girls 'entaglements'

beach house 'devotion'

woods 'at rear house'

chad vangaalen 'skelliconnection'

dom 'sun bronzed greek gods EP'

elliott smith 'either/or'

built to spill 'there's nothing wrong with love'

cocteau twins 'treasure'

young marble giants 'colossal youth'

violent femmes 'violent femmes'

these.

Sleigh Bells

The Courteeners - Falcon

Beach House - Teen Dream

Surfer Blood - Astro Coast

Zola Jesus - Stridulum

I second the Courtneers album actually, I still struggle to believe it's the same band that released their debut.

The Courteeners 'Falcon'

You Overdid It Doll: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAT8WdkE-Cw

Lullaby: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCfNtgeHDvY

Sycophant: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqypztwr4Ag

The Golden Filter 'Voluspa'

Hide Me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IQnPEAWXWg

Frejyas Ghost: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZtTktNAhkg

Stardust: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZXJe29R1X4

Two Door Cinema Club 'Tourist History'

You Are Not Stubborn:

This Is The Life:

I Can Talk:

Codeine Velvet Club (ignore that it's the Fratellis singer, they're much better)

Hollywood:

Vanity Kills:

Black Roses: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8TQabtsbuQ

Male Bonding 'Nothing Hurts'

Year's Not Long:

All Things Together, Franklin and Pumpkin (3 songs, 1 vid): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PHSu6X1i5U

I also notice you didn't put the new Foals album on your list. It's another album which I think is hugely better than their debut.

Spanish Sahara:

Black Gold: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CfKJlpaVeg

What Remains: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXcZDV6pmGI

And if you don't like that, still listen to this because it's completely different.

(Zola Jesus, Xiu Xiu, This Song Is A Mess But So Am I)

(just skip to 1.15)

Noisy and moody music, mmmm <3.

Drake - Over

This isn't too bad for a rap track so far... :o The beat is really quite interesting.

:o It's immense, just because it's not 'true' drum & bass?

it isnt drum n bass at all, and neither is their last album, which i liked. when I listen to Immersion I just hear a really really poor electronic album.
