They said the same thing about Meet Me Halfway and Telephone, look at them now.

 

Massive album sales do have an effect almost all of the time, but it seems artists like Lady GaGa and The Black Eyed Peas are immune to it.

 

That's a silly comparison since Meet Me Halfway only went to #1 due to X Factor. I'm sure they were at #3/#4 before the performance and that was probably due to the weekend effect. Leona would have got it (on admittedly rather low sales) if neither performed imo.

People keep saying this, but they never say that Bad Romance only got #1 because of the X Factor. They're always like "But Bad Romance would've got #1 anyway".

 

The week it got #1, Leona, JLS and Cheryl Cole were #2, #3 and #4, and they wouldn't exist if it weren't for the X Factor.

 

And the week before, Meet Me Halfway was #3 (and climbing), and Cheryl Cole and JLS were #2 and #1 respectively, so they would've been #1 that week if it weren't for X Factor. If anything, I think the X Factor hindered Meet Me Halfway's chart run.
