Surely the sole purpose of charity songs is to raise money for charity, and therefore there is no need for it to be in the charts. But knowing what Simon Cowell is like, he uses the 'charity' aspect as a defence so no-one dares criticize it. But if charity songs were NOT eligible for the charts, I very much doubt he would ever involve himself with them. Just look at the X Factor charity songs - whenever the finalists get told they've gone to no.1 they go hysterical about it, which makes me think the only reason they are so enthusiastic about it is because they know they've got a guaranteed no.1 in the bag.
