I wouldnt mind if they were original songs but all the show does is get their acts to sing crappy cover versions. Its just another way for Cowell and Co to make a bit more money and promotion for himself and his appauling show.

Can't blame Simon for doing this - He has seen many times songs performed on XF and BGT surge up the charts [Don't Stop Believin', Listen, There You'll Be etc,] so he clearly wants to get in on the act. This will have the same impact as Glee tracks intial high entries on iTunes fading away as the week progresses.

If the tracks are released on Saturday night after the performances, and Simon lets them appear in the iTunes Top 100, then the Top 10 of TheBigTop40 will be an unpaid advert for the X-Factor

The tracks won't appear on the charts why won't people read what has previously been stated.

The American Idol tracks are released to iTunes every week and don't effect anything so we should just calm down and if people want to waste their money on it then that is their problem.

From what i have read nothing has been confirmed yet as to if they will appear on the charts or not.... People are just guessing at the moment based on American Idol....

Why wouldn't they chart? - as bad as it will be (musically), the whole point of the chart is to count everything that is sold.

Can we please not compare this with Glee? Glee make brilliant records, the majority of which dont even make the top 40, let alone the higher top 20 and top 10.

If Cowell does this and makes them ineligable to chart, the fine, I wouldnt download such awfulness myself but I wouldnt complain. If they are allowed to chart though, we might aswell stop artists from making decent music because clearly we will only be allowed to listen to stuff Cowell allows us too. The charts are already too dominated by the X-Factor as it is and this if it happens, will probably the worst thing to happen to the music industry in a long long time.

I'm not sure how Cowell can make them ineligible though. As much as he likes to think he controls everything, he isn't the OCC!

Then again though Journey stopped Joe from releasing Don't Stop Believing so if someone covered that this year it wouldn't be allowed to be released, which is another reason as to why I think this story is made up.

X Factor does not have as dire themes as American Idol does and their songbook is very limited. I am pretty sure they would not have clearance to release all tracks that are covered.

I know for a fact that these songs will be ineligible to chart the people who are saying they will be eligible are clueless.

Well, let's be honest here. There's no way they could make up 10 new good songs for every week. Mash-ups and remixes would be possible, but I don't think they could do much more.

They should have done this in leona's year, then i would of been able to get a better versıon of summer time!

i dont think any of them will be able to get number one, because, no aıprlay, no promo, NO CHANCE.

but you never know, i just think it would be unlıkely, i mean top 5 yeah, but ı dont think number one would be acheıvable, but then again maybe im wrong.

and doesnt ıt depend weather the artıst's gıve them permıssıon?

:)

No promo? It's not as if they're gonna need the Radio 1 A-list playlist.

So just because they performed on x-factor, means there gonna be a surefıre number one? dont thınk so, ı mean look at marıah, shakıra, both well known, yeh mıssed out on top 10 top 20 and top 40

Clueless? Well, aren't you the little charmer.

Whats your source for 'knowing it as a fact'? WHY won't they be eligible?

The way I see it, even if this hapens and they are able to chart, I really can't see many actually making the top 40 let alone the top 10. For a start, although for example Glee gets a 15th of the audience X Factor gets, the amount of songs released from them each week is roughly 3 i think. Whereas X Factor could have 12-16 (and go down from there each week). Most of these songs won't make the top 75, a few could make the top 40 and a couple may scrape the top 20 - but it'll be the special moments like Alexandra's "Listen", Joe's "Don't Stop Believing" and Ruth's "Purple Rain" that would impact the top 10 and make a play for a top 3 position.

There's probably less than a 1000 people that will buy all these tracks week in week out. I guess they'll be alot that willl buy a couple of tracks and some fanbases are going to be bigger than others. But really, I don't think (certainly in the beginning of the competiton) many of these songs will impact. And I reckon Simon Cowell knows this - but also knows he'll get a lot from the performances that make an impact - the ones where you go into work on a Monday morning and say "Did you see so-and-so sing Blah Blah on X Factor? WOW!" - but really how many of them do you get a season?

They should not be allowed to chart. But i did want some of the songs last year so i can see them charting high! but they should not be allowed to chart otherwise the charts will be the x factor chart
