August 2, 201014 yr I'm not sure how Cowell can make them ineligible though. As much as he likes to think he controls everything, he isn't the OCC!All he has to do is not register the tracks with the chart compilers whilst still allowing the likes of iTunes to sell them. Or iTunes can decline to report on sales of the tracks which is what happens with American Idol tracks That way they are guaranteed not to chart at all... and if he wished, Cowell would then need to separately work out a deal with iTunes not to include the tracks in the iTunes chart, again as happens with American Idol in the US.

Ah ok. Thanks for the sensible explanation, Robbie.
August 3, 201014 yr If this is all true, I would think Simon would want them to be eligible to chart. I don't really think the download charts will be very representative of the voting, not to mention that the voting can drastically change every week. Like last year, Rachel came 1st in the votes in week 3, and then came 2nd last in the votes the week after.
August 3, 201014 yr Surely he would make the same amount of money if they weren't eligible to chart as if they were? The only reason he would let them be able to chart is so it could further inflate his already massive ego and prove that he really can dominate the charts. Anyway, has this even be confirmed anywhere with a hint of reliability? I remember thisispop posted this exact same idea as an April Fools Joke. I wouldn't be surprised if someone saw that and then reported it, and then word got around. Bizarre as it may seem I did see this happen with a made-up story on another forum I post on.
August 3, 201014 yr Not going to lie, as soon as Ruth performed Purple Rain, the first thing I did was search on google to where I could download an MP3 of it. ... I wouldn't pay for it however.

I'm sure he'd enjoy boosting his self-esteem a little bit more. You're right though. This might not be true. However, if you search on Google News, it seems that this story has been posted on multiple news websites. This doesn't make it true though, but usually joke articles don't get posted on more than one website.
August 3, 201014 yr I don't get why people are saying they would make no impact on the charts the favourites would easily all make the top 10 every week. Anyway there is no way it is going to happen as certain songs would not be cleared.
August 3, 201014 yr basically if they are successful it will be used to see who is most popular on x factor which is sad
August 3, 201014 yr basically if they are successful it will be used to see who is most popular on x factor which is sad Erm no, it doesn't work like that. I've put up all the downloads for the last 3 years on another site, and each year the most downloaded wasn't the winner (Rhydian, Diana and Stacey respectively).
August 3, 201014 yr Thank god i've been wanting this to happen since they started doing it for american idol :) . It probably is true as last year he copied the auditions from britons got talent and the results show from american idol so theres probably gonna be some updating this year :)
August 7, 201014 yr Erm no, it doesn't work like that. August 7, 201014 yr Yeah, with Glee, a bunch of tracks were released each week, but like with all other songs, they only charted well if they were good. The better songs charted high (e.g. Like a Prayer, Halo/Walking On Sunshine, Total Eclipse of the Heart), and other songs barely made it into the top 200. For example, Smile charted at #190, and Shout It Out Loud charted at #188. If this X Factor thing is true, hopefully a similar thing will happen, where only the tracks that are really good chart (because, let's face it, there are some good ones each year).
August 7, 201014 yr Oh Dear  there was a prank thread on this in April- looks like he got an idea! I really hope the chart isnt completely clogged up as that will just be unfair what with the XF domination that will already be going on- I hope they do what Glee does and low top 40 it could give us an indication as to who is popular and who isnt- at least at the time, or it could just be most popular song
August 7, 201014 yr Really can't see the big deal, it is a free society, people can do what they want with their money, if they choose to buy X Factor songs then so be it if they make the charts.
