More pathetic than going into a thread (or a load of threads; this one, Alexandra's) and spouting unnecessary negativity. Why would someone who dislikes XF come into this thread let alone post in it?

And while I sometimes get annoyed that a very hyped song ('I Gotta Feeling' for e.g.) gets a boost on iTunes just because it was played in the background for 5 seconds, you've got to appreciate that some people don't go out of their way to listen to music and if a great song was featured on XF, they might notice it, like it and then want to buy it.

I don't see why Onika shouldn't have posted their thoughts in this thread ... after all ... the title does ask to post comments / thoughts on the chart impact. I totally agree. If a song (usually an old one ... RTW, Chasing Cars, SOF, the usual suspects) makes a profit by appearing in the charts - it isn't because they're any better than they were the first time ... merely because they were on the show ... and some idiots (who probably already have the bloody songs) will download them again - dementia setting in probably.

And it isn't 'great songs' that get featured on X-F ... its just the usual suspects ... Coldplay, Take That, Snow Patrol, bore, bore, bore. I'd really like it if they included some really classy songs ... but then again ... some people may think songs like You Lift Me Up are great ... so I stand corrected.

I've read Cowell's interview in the Radio Times this week. I detested the man before ... but a man who openly admits that he aspired to be Micky Most really deserves to be shot!

I agree with Norma. This thread is about Fix Factor's impact on the charts. Therefore, anyone interested in the charts is likely to be interested in the thread, whether they watch the programme or not.

also on the show tonight (auditioned)

I'm sorry but this shows the utter patheticness of this country that the way we now discover songs is through a $h!t reality show that produces some of the most dire artists that have ever signed a record contract. You lot should be ashamed of yourselves!

Sorry, but some of us don't have enough time to listen to every single song ever created. Some people will hear a song for the first time on the X Factor; get over it.

You're forgiven. Also, I tried to read past, "I'm sorry" but the lack of punctuation made my head hurt.

@SweetDreams

All of Cheryl's songs have been performed by someone throughout the auditions, FFTL quite a few times.

Thanks :)

The producer was on the show saying that Cheryl was telling a girlband that they needed to change their image.. and that it was probably because they were performing Parachute

People who criticise X Factor really p*** me off. What harm is it actually doing?

Its providing entertainment for families & individuals over the UK on a saturday night & giving ordinary people the chance to live there dream and perform infront of millions.

LIGHTEN UP A BIT, if you dont like it, dont watch it, SIMPLE. Isnt it?

Anyway cant wait for tonights show. B)

I'd love to see an act like Chris Daughtry on the UK show. Someone with a properly good rock voice, not like that Jamie fella...

That Jamie was the sort of singer who'd sing more douche stuff like "I'm yours". The thing is we aren't allowed anything like that here. Chris Daughtry is easily the best contestant ever from a reality TV show.

As for the show, I will not be watching a minute of it this year. It's a disgrace to music, and Mr Cowell is a menace to the music industry in this country. He needs to be stopped.

I don't watch it. The reason so many people object to it is that the contestants get countless hours of free publicity on prime time television and radio. Other singers and bands work their socks off playing their own songs and their own instruments in pubs and other small venues for months in the hope that they might make it. Who is more deserving of success?

The one who is more determined and will know what route to take to ensure that he/she is a success. If that's by auditioning on XF then so be it.

I've seen many contestants on XF who have actually spent years performing in pubs and clubs - doing that isn't always a great way of getting recognised. So they probably thought that XF would give them a platform and would make the public realise their talent.

And XF isn't a short-cut to success. You have to audition at least twice in front of the producers and make a big impression, then if you're lucky/talented enough you will make it through to the televised auditions singing to a huge crowd where they can laugh/snigger/boo, then go through several days of bootcamp where you have to prepare in a short space of time, memorise the lyrics and arrangements as well as warming up your vocals, trying to get recognised out of the 100 remaining contestants, then if you're even more lucky, you'd go through to the judges houses and sing two songs and if successful, you'll have to perform on a huge stage, memorising various lyrics, dance routines, arrangements for 10 weeks - getting slated by the media and public in the process most probably. It's not a short-cut at all - it's a huge risk in regards to your career. If you don't do well on XF and rank at a poor place (as high as 7th?) then people in the music industry won't see you as successful - look at Laura White.

It is pretty hard to avoid isn't it?

Anyway the main thing people on here hate about it is the blatant manipulation by Simon cowell to claim it is a singing competition then keep the dire Jedward in over someone who could sing to get more publicity.

I don't think its a case of who deserves success - I think both ways do - if you are talented enough, and you work hard enough, then yeah I think you deserve success - don't get jaded that getting on these shows is a lazy way of being successful. I mean out of all of the contestants that audition - how many really make it? Next year will be 10 years of these talent shows being on and only the girls from Hear'say, Will Young, Girls Aloud, Sam and Mark, Leona, Alexandra, JLS, and Joe (though this needs to be tested) are still around having alot of success, there are others that are hanging in there like Jedward but most have disappeared competely. Those that I mentioned have stayed around because they took charge of their careers - look at Sam and Mark and the girls from Hear'Say - none of them are making music anymore - but are still being successful in their own right.

I always wonder though, many well known comedians from the 70's were found on a TV talent show called New Faces I think, and many are still around today - people like Roy Walker, Michael Barrymore, Victora Wood, Lenny Henry and Joe Pasquale came from that show - though no one would know about it now. Because they auditioned and won a TV show - does this mean they are not allowed success? Like you said - they would have got countless of free publicity on prime time television, while other comedians work their socks off in pubs and other small venues for months in the hope they might make it. So I ask you, who is more deserving of success?

I actually agree with your last point tbh.

The singing side of XF is great. Without it, would we really have the Leona, Alexandra and Diana that many have grown to love? But I hate the "entertainment-over-talent" side. Jedward should never have even been allowed on TV. It's clear that Simon wanted them in the live finals from the start. How else would they have made it through bootcamp?

^ Well they did have a little help from Louis as well - anyone Irish would get a boost from him.

But I do agree with that one as well, I loved it last year when Dannii made Simon squirm when it was down to Oli and Jedward - it was the ultimate revenge for when Simon chose Jedward over Lucie - and then to actually say "because it's a singing competition" and kept Oli in. But it really did show Simon up and I have a lot of respect for Dannii on doing that.

Meh, Jedward were my favourite contestants last year :D

week 7 deadlock was horrid- my two favourites! :( Lucie may have been the better singer, but Jedward were more entertaining and Cowell could make more money out of them, plus they were the talking point- so they were always going to stay, I did like Lucie mind

I wonder if we'll get an act like them this year- or just a 'surprise' act- When we first saw them, we were all saying how terrible they were and how they'd get nowhere, and look what happened!

There's going to be an interesting performance of

Duffy - Mercy

...

On what planet were Jedward entertaining.

The fact they are still around despite flopping three times and everyone hating them is beyond a joke.

Remember all the talk they were leading the votes when in truth they were always near the bottom. Their popularity is a complete fabrication.

I like all three of them, I just can't stand the material they bring out. Alexandra needs to be doing ballads like The Silence. Diana's album wasn't for me.

Jedward were entertaining because their act came across as an 'invasion' of a genuine talent competition. I firmly believe that Cowell et al. had planned it that way, as a method of drawing in the viewers who didn't actually like X-Factor but just wanted to see these two eejits make a mockery of themselves and the show on live television.

I think we have seen the last of Don't Stop Believin' it just got murdered.
Dont stop believing better not get higher in itunes chart? Big brother murderd it and it went up to 41 on itunes :(
