All the way down to #30 now for Joe McElderry, that's quite an undeniable disaster really.

Shows that male X Factor winners cannot cut it long term.

Hmmm I didnt expect Joe to flop as hard as he is - Ambitions really is doing shockingly poor.

Leon at least had 2/3 weeks in the top 20 and that was in a bad climate for single sales in comparison to the moment

Yet some how runners up can, see JLS, Will Young (OK he was Pop Idol but you get my point) and Olly's new one is going to be huge. And Shayne Ward might have a #1 yet.

Anyway I hope Matt comes second :kink:

It's mainly because runners up are signed by labels who know what they're doing whereas the winners are forced to team up with Syco.

Erm, Will Young, Leona Lewis and Alexandra were all winners and signed to Syco, and they have been massive.

It depends on which male act wins, Olly is doing really well, JLS are doing really really well (both second!) and Will Young did okay for himself.

Shayne Ward we are yet to see what his comeback is like..

Leona's done amazing on the SYCO label, and alexandra is doing quite well.

Firework at #2 !

Just A Dream #7 :dancing:

Will Young wasn't on Syco, he was on 19 Recordings which is Simon Fuller's company

Gareth Gates was the one signed to Syco.

Which proves my point.

As for Leona, Alex, I'm talking about male contestants/winners. Syco can't seem to handle them really

I dont think it is a male winner/female winner issue. It is purely the quality of the song and strength of the song which will determine how well the act will do.Bleeding Love was a brilliant choice for Leona and Bad Boys was something stand-out for Alex.Joe has been sold short with a poor song that his voice is just not suited to.It will be a shame if his team choose to clutch at straws for why the song has not done well as there lack of effort is the real reason.

Will Young's continued success wasn't down to Syco or Simon Cowell! Leona and Alexandra are also signed to US labels so have the extra A&R support from them.

Syco on their own without the help of Epic or US input don't have a clue. The male winners usually have to release covers - both Joe's and Shayne's new singles are covers. They also get a small fraction of the promotion the girls get. Seriously how can Syco expect their male winners to succeed when they are given covers to sing. Shayne will probably flop harder than Joe unless there is a dramatic improvement in his promotion and airplay in the next couple of weeks.

Alexandra massive? Hmmm. She's had little success outside of the UK. It remains to be seen if her success continues with the next album, but she has benefited from huge amounts of airplay and promotion. Last year/early this year she was on every prime time TV show going.

MICHAEL BUBLE ON X FACTOR SUNDAY NIGHT! :D

Hey UK! Michael is performing live on The XFactor this coming Sunday, October 24th. Guess what song he'll sing? Check local TV listings.

I agree, Syco are really poor as the record label. They seem to bother only about the first album at the max, - then their creativity isn't impressive. Yes, Leona's sales for the second album were big, but we saw the huge tumble down from sales of the first album. We are yet to see the sales for Alex's second album but I won't be surprised if it will be sold like 300-400k or even worse in the end. You can mark this quote and use it in two years if you want to.

And Syco do really love covers, don't they? All the winners' songs, all the Finalists' charity songs, hell a lot of covers/samples by alumni... The freshest examples are SuBo whose album is apparently ALL covers, Joe's 'Ambitions'; Alexandra's 'Start Without You' also heavily samples the Boney M song. It's not the way what material should be given to the performers, it's cheap and actually very annoying. Syco need to be more original, and a lot of the hate for the X-Factor as the whole will be gone.

Syco arent that good really- especially not with male winners who they've stitched up big time (bar Will Young), it appears they gave more time for the female winners and they did good with Leona and Alex, but they seemed to assume to repeating the formula would equal to the same success and they were proved wrong as Leona didnt do as well this time

Epic on the other hadn know what their doing- hence JLS and Olly becoming huge successes

and I cant belive Katy's number 2 :o this could be number 1 unless something big is out to stop it

But they are the right genre for the current musical climate...

Oh well, at least it will be live. Unlike Miss Tweedy.

Cheryl is out next week :-( shame really as Firework is an awesome song.
but isn't Cheryl rumored to be performing 'The Flood' on X Factor? If that IS true, then although 'Promise This' will get to number 1 anyway, it'll probably have a 'Once' sort of chart run. (which isn't shabby, but for ms cole it will be). However Cheryl won't need to perform 'Promise This' on Sunday to get to number 1 anyway.

EDIT: Also people need to give Shayne Ward a break. Both of his albums have been huge, so I don't see why we have to wait for his comeback to decide whether SYCO have done a good job with him when they clearly have.

Why would SyCo invest more than £1 million in Joe when it is clear he isn't go to generate a return?

They can't force songwriters to work with Joe, or provide a song for Joe, that would give a massive hit unless they throw ridiculous amounts of money at them - after all, songwriters choose who they want to work with to the large extent, unless as I say they're "bought" for a large fee. If SyCo did that it would be too big a risk and money down the drain most probably.

Hence why Leona and Alex, with their US deals, managed to bag the big writers and as a result came up with lead singles and subsequent singles that were commercially successful. If that funding from the US, over and above the £1 million, isn't there, there's bugger all SyCo can do about it - unless they wanted to go down a route equivalent to taking out a mortgage on a home that is about to fall down.
