September 14, 201014 yr And in all seriousness, one week is fine. But Craig, do you REALLY think you could live like that PERMANENTLY?
September 14, 201014 yr No Spurs games either. Or curries. Or firearms to cull the ethnics. LOL got those tonight :teresa: Off to pub at half 6 to watch the game on a tv stream No drunken posting though as work tomorrow :o
September 14, 201014 yr And in all seriousness, one week is fine. But Craig, do you REALLY think you could live like that PERMANENTLY? If I had no choice I would have to Of course I would not enjoy it and sacrifices would have to be made but you just have to play the hands you are dealt with in life
September 14, 201014 yr How about travel? Could you afford to run a car whilst living on £90 a week? I doubt it. Public transport costs aswell. I just don't thnk you've really factored EVERYTHING into your plans. Any costs that come up annually, or once every few months, but you won't necessarily see in your one week experiment - say a TV license, Christmas, school uniforms and stationery if you have kids, etc.

September 14, 201014 yr Whether someone can get by on £90 a week disability allowance depends on the circumstances, a single guy living with his mum I would imagine would have little difficulty in doing so, a single guy living alone would find it bloody hard probably, a married guy on disability living allowance would probably be fine if his wife works, it all depends on the circumstances
September 14, 201014 yr I can't this month as I have car tax, car insurance and a couple of other things to pay this month but next month i will pay myself £90 for one week and see how far I can make it stretch If I am sensible with it I have no doubt that I wo  :lol:uld get by, I would do things like get special offer foods in the supermarket, make dishes with vegetables and drink less alcohol but I could do it I have no doubt. So you're actually going to do what you said before you'd never do, look in the "reduced" section in supermarkets? :o LOL we need a separate thread with daily updates Craig. "Got some great half-price prawns today" "The steak looked a bit manky though so left that" :naughty: "Got shoved about by all the chav women wanting cheap stuff  " Edited September 14, 201014 yr by Common Sense

"Got some great half-price prawns today" LOL I won't like go to the section where they reduce stuff that is right by its sell by date but I often see 2 for 1 offers or buy 1 get 1 half price etc in frozen sections of supermarkets I use so would take advantage of some of those kind of things, I often see frozen pizzas reduced to £1 :o that kind of thing Happy to keep updates lol, will do it from first Monday in October

That's what most people who live off £90 a week do, there's nothing wrong with stuff that's near its sell by date...
September 14, 201014 yr Really? That's what most people who live off £90 a week do, there's nothing wrong with stuff that's near its sell by date... If something I would have bought anyway is on special offer because it's reached the sell-by date then I'll take advantage. The only reason not to would be if I didn't think I'd specifically planned to use it on a different day.
September 14, 201014 yr Really? That's what most people who live off £90 a week do, there's nothing wrong with stuff that's near its sell by date... Agreed. I got a pack of lean pork steaks today in Tesco, 8 in, today's date, reduced to £1.50 instead of £4.99. They'll be fine for us all a dinner tomorrow as we already have something for today. You can get steak cheap too and have it next day. Some meat is sometimes brown so obviously I won't buy that. You've still to be a bit choosy but most stuff has nothing wrong with it. I still find the whole thing of rifling through bargain bins be it in shops or supermarkets very undignified and it is not something I can bring myself to do.

You've still to be a bit choosy but most stuff has nothing wrong with it. :o :o I so can't do that, I am borderline paranoid about use by dates, whenever I see an item in a shop I always go to the back of the shelf where the better use by dates tend to be, I won't eat any type of food a day after it's use by date, simply can't, vegetables excepted and even than I only eat like 2 days later

As I said if meat's not red than I leave it even if was only a penny!! I go to the back too for normal priced stuff like milk, have been told off for doing that by snotty staff. Edited September 14, 201014 yr by Common Sense
September 14, 201014 yr I still find the whole thing of rifling through bargain bins be it in shops or supermarkets very undignified and it is not something I can bring myself to do. Dignity tends to be the first thing to go when you're struggling to make ends meet.
September 14, 201014 yr Author I still find the whole thing of rifling through bargain bins be it in shops or supermarkets very undignified and it is not something I can bring myself to do. Then don't dare lecture people on benefits, who have to do what you deem "undignified" every single week.
September 14, 201014 yr I still find the whole thing of rifling through bargain bins be it in shops or supermarkets very undignified and it is not something I can bring myself to do. Its not actually a bin. Its either a couple of shelfs at the end of an isle of a section of the fridge/freezer. Depending on how much stock is being reduced you don't normally have to rake through at all and you can get some decent bargains. If i fancy Chicken Fajita's one night i'll get myself a reduced Roast Chicken from the counter and use that instead of buying and cookin chicken breast fillets. I can pick up a chicken for 99p easily, maybe even 49p depending on who i'm on with. Saves me like £3. It's not something to be ashamed of or a pride issue, i've seen lots of proud snobs take reduced stuff, it shows that you can spot a damn good deal when you see one.

September 15, 201014 yr Then don't dare lecture people on benefits, who have to do what you deem "undignified" every single week. Like I said, I bet when I do my week that I won't have to buy one item from the reduced section and will still get by on £30 or so for food for the week, frozen section has lots of good offers I can get by on cheap food without losing my dignity
