September 24, 201016 yr Radio 1 REALLY confuse me... Don't playlist Alexandra, the longest running number 1 in what... 10? 11? weeks. Move Taylor Swift up to B list (I love Taylor but even I think this is WIERD and does NOT fit with the current overall playlist) And they add Joe McElderry when they CLEARLY don't give a $h!t about him and I can guarentee 90% of the presenters don't want it on there and were all praising how AMAZING it was that RAGE were XMas number 1 yadda yadda. UGH.

UGH. The justification for them ignoring SWY is because, let's face it, it's total $h!t and nobody knows how it got to #1 at all, let alone for 2 weeks. (although its second week was very much by default) Edited September 24, 201016 yr by ~ braysephone ~
September 24, 201016 yr ^Alexandra Burke is playlisted by most commercial networks across the UK; not being playlisted by Radio 1 doesn't seem to have done her any harm (i.e. she still got a number 1 didn't she?), so she obviously is not in need of their support - therefore I fully understand why they've not bothered to support her. They have used their influence to help artists/singers that don't have that kind of widespread support. As for Joe, "Ambitions" is only being playlisted because its his debut (discounting the winners song) and I very much doubt unless he becomes a more experimental artist that any future singles will be playlisted. I frequently moan about the Radio 1 playlist, but the above examples I couldn't (in all honesty) care less about.
September 24, 201016 yr Oh gosh, what exactly consecutive week do we have moaning about Alexandra not being play-listed? I'm so bored of the 'The don't playlist Alexandra yet they playlist [insert artist who in your opinion is cr@p here]" arguement over and over again. Sorry guys but it sounds like a broken record. Yes, they didn't playlist it and it got to #1. It is their choice, they don't break any laws - it is their own decision.

September 24, 201016 yr Start Without You was simply good enough to get number-one without Radio 1's support. Most of their current playlist won't get the success that Start Without You is having, because the songs simply aren't as good. As much as some people hear them on the radio, they won't want to buy them. *gets shot*
September 24, 201016 yr Also it's $h!t Well that's clearly subjective, but I do happen to agree with you. It sounds every bit as cheesey and as much a mess as "Hooray! Hooray! It's a Holi-Holiday" by Boney M.

Any $h!t song can get to be a hit with mass exposure (numerous examples of this can be found in chart history), not so much the other way around. Many of the songs on this playlist are only being supported by Radio 1 and probably a few more specialist stations, or don't have such mass appeal (ie. Bullet For My Valentine).
