Such a shame. I loved Vanessa but they really just did stop trying with her back in December. I remember thinking as soon as we didn't see her reaction to Max leaving the family on Christmas Day to see Stacey off that they didn't have any long-term plans for her. I'm gutted actually but at least we've known it was coming. Poor Zoe. She's such a good actress. I think I might have to campaign for the return of Footballer's Wives so that I can get my fix again in the near future.

Sad for Darren too but I think seven years with a soap is a bloody good length of time and at least he got a chance to develop under Kirkwood rather than spending his last 18 months as a Minty-esque nobody character. It's quite telling that they're keeping Jodie. She's rumoured to be paired up with a new Moon (one of Michael's brothers I think) so I guess they have big plans for her and rightly so, I think she's got great potential.

They were both screwed the moment the writers decided they couldn't resist going down the all-too inevitable Max/Tanya route; the Max/Darren double-act doesn't really seem to exist any more, and Vanessa is now an inconvenient irrelevance. It's a shame, because I don't REALLY think it's any reason for them to be written out completely (although the DS article does seem to imply Charlie Hawkins at least chose to leave of his own accord).

They could easily have found a place for Vanessa outside of Max, so I see no reason for her to leave; this is laziness on the part of the writers, nothing more. She hasn't been integrated in with the rest of the Square at all really, but all this meant is that they almost had a blank canvas to use (and a damn good one at that in Zoe Lucker) - with no real history bogging her down, they could have done anything with her.

I agree, the script writers screwed the charactor of vanessa up, i cant understand why the script writers didnt maximize the charactor as zoe is a great actress, the charactor had huge potential to be a a proper soap bitch and she could have done it with style. Also the storyline with vanessa and her ex husband had loads of potential to be a huge storyline but instead it was forgotten about. While i love the show it disapoints me they let opportunities like this slip through their fingers, its criminal the likes of mercy, fatboy an dlauren get more screen time than vanessa.

Well Lauren is one of my favourite characters in the show of late and Mercy doesn't really get screen time (how much had she had in the six months prior to April? About one episode a fortnight!) but I agree with the sentiment. It's so frustrating when you can see the potential slipping away.

I'm going to echo what others have said. It's a damn shame about Vanessa and unfortunately inevitable since they've made no effort to integrate her with anyone but the Brannings, and even then she was underused. There were moments where I thought she could be truly brilliant but they've simply not used her enough. I hope with Jodie sticking around it gives her an excuse to return.

Vanessa has the potential to be a huge character. I hope they at least give her a great exit. I think Zoe Lucker is a fabulous actress but I just don't feel this character at all and I think that's more to do with the writers than Zoe herself. Her scene in the cafe with Jack this week was pretty shambolic. HE WAS THE BETTER ACTOR. And that's saying something. I don't think she's even that bothered and why should she when she's been pushed into the background and the likes of Heather, Ben, Jay, Abi and Mercy get more screentime than her?

He was the better actor. Each to their own, but Scott Maslen is as wooden as anything.

Zoe Lucker is a meh actress. She will never play a good role like Tanya Turner though, as trashy and cringey the show might of been.

I felt like cheering when Syed put Zainab and Masood in their place. I only wish he'd have done it a bit louder so everyone could hear.

Syed was great in that scene with Mas and Zainab in the Vic last night. He's in an altogether higher league of character when he's away from Christian. Just goes to prove how awful their pairing is. Zainab is absolutely my favourite character right now.

Last night's episode was really good. APART from Jane's squeeze who is a monumentally awful actor...

ps. just watched tonights and it was also very good. I didn't stop laughing throughout.

I don't really get what EE are trying to do with Heather, they seem to just treat her like a joke all the time and its getting quite boring now. I feel sorry for the actress.

It's the right decision to get rid of Vanessa IMO. She didn't make any friends in the year she was here, so with the inevitability of Tanya & Max getting together they would have to find her a job, a place to live & a circle of friends and they would have to do it really quick, so there isn't really anywhere they could go with her. It's sad though cause when she first started she had bags of potential.

Darren, well, he's gone now that he's turned into a decent character, but hey seven years with them, can't complain. I'm really glad that Jodie is getting to stay though cause the actress is great & she's beautiful too <3

But they have to do this anyway with ANY new character they introduce into the show; find a way of integrating them in. The fact that they haven't already done this with Vanessa is the fault of the writers; they had a promising character with plenty of potential portrayed by a familiar face...and they did nothing with it. It's a shame that a relatively decent actress is now losing her job because of it.

I don't understand what this online romance thing is all about. They are just treating her like a joke.

Apparently, Jodie gets it on with someone from the Moon family following Darren's depature. No Alfie (of course) or Michael though

I say apparently so it hasn't been confirmed.

Heather needs to be rid of. She was a total cow to Denise and way over the top in slapping her.

How shirley have put up with her for all these years i do not know? I would of got shot of her ages ago.

I actually burst out laughing at that, it was so uncalled for  And Jack stood there going on about his change LOL

Thats a bit unfair don't you think.

I suppose i am a bit

Only a fictional character though :D

I can't stand Heather either ... however if it wasn't for her character - Harry Hill would be without one of his best!

Kath

I usually stick up for Heather but she really got on my nerves last night. And I've forgotton what George's situation is now. We never see him with Heather OR Darren anymore.
