October 9, 201014 yr Also, it took a hit in the ratings (although apparantly tuesday was as a whole was weak) the ratings are down to 10.76 million with 4.5% of 18-49 year olds, down from 5.9% share of 18-49 year olds/13.5 million overall viewers from last week and 5.5%/12.28 million overall viewers from the premiere as well, although it did win the night.
October 12, 201014 yr I didn't think it was as good as people made it out to be. The sad parts felt kind of forced and I found myself bored throughout it tbh :(.
October 12, 201014 yr Having re-watched it I can definatly understand where some of the criticism is coming from. I have no idea if I was suppose to be champoning Emma or not in her religious arguement with Sue, but I most certainly wasnt. I found the fact that Kurt was seemingly the only atheist in a group of over 10 16-18 year old's quite odd aswell. Rachel needs to go back to the melodramatic diva, willing to ruin the lives of anyone who stands in the way of her and her dreams, not the religious nutjob she turned to in this episode. Her sining to a man she's never even been shown to meet was quite awful. Fundamental proof really that she and Fin are better off when not together. Mercedes appared to have good intentions in what she was doing, but Quinn appears to have gone back to the bland nightmare she use to be, the mother-earth nature suited her much better. The episode still of course had it's highpoints as I pointed out in my first post, namely Sue with her sister and Kurt on the whole (the flashbacks, performances, he on the whole outshined the rest of the cast). It was still an extremly strong episode but the religious undetone instead of showing the various different sides of religion as promised, was instead seemingly done only to please Christian America.
October 12, 201014 yr I despised this episode, for the reason that it seemed very intolerant of people who aren't religious, suggesting that somehow not having God in your life means that you are lost and broken, and the only way to get through your problems is to believe and lean on someone "you can't see, feel or touch" as Mercedes wonderfully put it. She even turned around to Kurt at one point and said "I don't know how to be around you" just because of his non-religious views. The storyline with Burt also felt very contrived, and emotionally manipluative, compared to "Dream On", which struck an honest downbeat tone and message (I was cringing when Rachel was singing "Papa, Can You Hear Me?", to Kurt's dad, and the "Who's next?" line killed any sort of melodramtic emotion they tried to create) and the worse thing was that they prayed for him, when Kurt specifically asked them not to, and made Kurt seem like a bad guy for making that one request. Also, when Emma burst through into Sue's office to say that Kurt is vunerable right now, and somehow therfore needs religion to get him through, and after Sue made her valid comments, she told her to keep those thoughts to herself! (Pot. Kettle. Black). The only person who made any sense that episode was indeed Sue, and even then the writers buckled under pressure and made the only lukewarm atheist there, back down in their belief, and swallow the religious bull$h!t that the episode was desperately trying to make the audience swallow. I felt uncomfortable how they elaborated that it was becasue of God that Burt managed to pull through. Quinn (who instead of supporting Kurt, had a go at him for his views, all the while superiorly wearing her little gold crucifix as though she was somehow more pure) Mercedes, Rachel (the whole I want to raise my children with my religious views, not matter what your views are, with no argument from Finn who sat there and took it like a robot: what a though provoking debate that was!), Finn, Santana, Emma et all were all unlikeable, selfish and self-absorbed (Finn, his whole "I believe in God now, because I saw him in a grilled sandwich; but now a week latter I hate him because he didn't listen to my pathetic problems and was SHOCK HORROR not the one who got me the chance to touch Rachel's boobs, while all the while I should maybe have been praying for my dying father figure instead"). Another point is that the song choices are getting worse and the lyrics increasingly taken out of context, a big example being "Hold Your Hand" however beautifully sung it was, and touching the flashbacks were (the highlight of the episode), the song is about the longing you feel for someone after you have just fallen in love with that person (err not the most appropiate song to sing to your dying father). Or how about Rachel singing "Papa, Can You Hear Me?" (where the singer in the song is supposed to be singing to their dead father) to her frenemy's still very much alive father (not the most comforting song to sing now, is it?) What If God Was One of Us was also, funnily enough, taken out of context too: instead of looking to God to find love and peace, you should find that in the people you love around you, the complete opposite of the actual message the episode gave. So the only one who gave any decent reasons for not believing in God, Kurt, was made to look like a mental patient and a bitch, was didn't know what he was saying because he was distressed, while Mercedes who gave the crackpot reason to believe in God, was made to look like this was the obvious answer to solve the complex isssue, with some emotional choir music to back her up. Clearly not biased then. Audition >> Britney/Brittany >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.....[huge gap].....>>>>> Grilled Cheesus (one of, if not my least, favourite episode of Glee so far) I couldn't have put any of these thoughts better myself. And I agree on most points. Especially about cringing when Rachel sang Papa Can You Hear Me! I watched it half-attentively. And the whole grilled 'jesus' sandwich thing was absolutely ridiculous.I found it VERY unbelievable how Finn suddently changed his mind about God after a conversation with Emma. I mean is his character supposed to be THAT stupid? Brittany looked like Einstein compared to him in that episode. It's so far the 2nd least favourite Glee episode of mine. Not the worst though because of Sue. She + her sister scene made up for it.
January 23, 201114 yr Author jsj9auDne78 So it's time for one of the most emotional episodes yet. Although the songs are quite weak (Bar 'Only The Good Die Young' & 'I Want To Hold Your Hand'!), this episode was emotional the first time I watched it. Looking forward to seeing it again :)
January 23, 201114 yr Seen SOME of this episode, but I stopped it as it looked that good that I wanted to wait. So I really can't wait to see it.
January 23, 201114 yr I dont wish to end up ranting about this episode, but I really hate it. I liked it first time round, but every time I saw it again i just end up hating it more & more. Chris Colfer is of course absoulutely amazing in it from start to finish, and is clearly one of the best actors in the show. Sue is also amazing. Everyone else spends the entire episode acting like a world class c**t.
January 23, 201114 yr One of my fave ever episodes and I actually think most of the songs are amazing
January 23, 201114 yr This episode was a lot better than I was expecting when I found out that it was about religion and what the songs were. The performances are mostly very good, with the highlights being 'One Of Us' & 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' (also have a soft spot for 'Losing My Religion'), and looking back, maybe this is better than the first two episodes. More depth to it, not as self-indulgent.
January 23, 201114 yr It's all about Duets really. I agree with Aled, this episode just screamed cunty. It's kind of like a filler between 202 and 204 so the Brit special doesn't overshadow the orgasm that is Duets.
January 24, 201114 yr I actually thought that was the best episode yet :o a lot more depth and emotion imo

'Duets' is easily one of the best of season two if just for QUEEN SANTANA.
January 24, 201114 yr 100% THIS. I can't stand to watch it anymore, the whole pushing religion thing onto you is nauseating. 'Duets' is easily one of the best of season two if just for QUEEN SANTANA. Coz we'z be goin......to breadsticks is like the best line of the whole season.
January 25, 201114 yr After watching this again, it's reminded me how much I love it! 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' is just amazing.
