True. But it was about as high as ANY Katie Melua single was ever going to achieve in 2010.

I echo Shoat about Alicia Keys. Hare dare I forget Alicia. :o Four consecutive top 10 hits in the last 12 months with 'Empire State Of Mind (Pt II) Broken Down' giving Alicia her biggest hit as a solo artist. Jay Z's version clearly paved the way but for me it's all about 'Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart'.

My mind completely forgot that Katie Melua released anything this year.

Take That's next single is called The Flood as well I think, I'm gonna go ahead and guess that'll do a lot better than Katie's song of the same name

I know you said 'in the last 12 months' but Alicia actually has 5 consecutive top 10 hits - Another Way To Die with Jack White also went top 10.

So she has. :D Makes it seem all the more impressive. ^_^ Ever since that live performance Alicia Keys gave last year on The X Factor (the medley of hits was  ) I've been more and more impressed. To top it all off was when Alicia performed during Britain's Got Talent helping 'TSWABH' to benefit from a big sales boost and go top 10. :D

-Kylies new album has been a major surpise after the disappointing x album. All the lovers is a storming return to form.

- I have been pleasantly surprised by Katy Perry's new album and her continued success. I thought she might fizzle out after the first album.

- I've been disappointed by lack of success for Katie Melua (her best album to date) and the Hoosiers. Also, surprised that Scounting for Girls last single Famous only managed to get in the low end of the top40. Their album is fantastic.

- Disappointed by Gabriella Cilmi's lack of success and I thought Boyzone would have sold better although at least the album went to no1.

Alas, you are right -_-

I do agree about Gabriella Climi's lack of success. I bet if "Defender" was sung by the queen of bland Leona Lewis it would have been a top 5 hit. On top of that, it was a good album but the label has treated her very badly.

Successes:

Katy Perry absolutely smashing everywhere this era. GaGa obviously, rap/hip-hop males, Diana Vickers technically...

Surprises:

Shontelle getting another top 10 hit this year. Sugababes flopping with their album. Avril Lavigne still hiding. Alexandra getting a #1 with SWY. Enrique going top 5 without R1 support and having another top 10 album and single afterwards.

Disappointments:

Christina Aguilera in general. I still love her but I was OBSESSED with her circa 2003. 'Dirrty' was immense - NMT wasn't. :( Adam Lambert not taking off. FYE and WWFM are first-rate songs and would have been hits with radio support. :( Leona Lewis not releasing anything else from Echo after 'I Got You' underperformed. The BRITs although they are $h!t annually. Radio 1's playlist.

Or maybe people can see through Gabriella. Releasing "retro-soul-pop" music in 2008 which "coincidentally" had Adele, Amy and Duffy releasing stuff as well and then going electro-pop in 2010 with GaGa being huge. Hmmm....

Anyway, take the Leona bashing to the artist bashing thread. Bland and moral are two completely different things.

The most dissapointing thing has been the amount of decent songs peaking between #11 - #15. Examples are What If, Fire With Fire, Your Love Is My Drug, Te Amo, Can't Be Tamed, I Got You, Blah Blah Blah, Rock That Body, Choices, Opposite Of Adults, Number One Enemy, Why Don't You, Take It Off, Do You Remember, Hollywood, Playing With Fire, Turn It Up, Drummer Boy, Let You Go, Amazing, Rescue Me, Neutron Star Collision, Not Myself Tonight, Gives You Hell, Memories, Do-Wah-Doo, I'd Rather Be With You, It's My Life/Confessions and One Time.

:P I liked it.

Most frustrating was probably Rock That Body missing out on a top ten placing after the three previous singles went to #1. :(

It'll do better, but it won't be anywhere near as good.

Katie Melua was NEVER a favourite of mine, but The Flood really caught me by surprise. It's WONDERFUL.

People saying Corrine Bailey Rae's return was a disappointment.

Her husband committed suicide bare that in mind when listening to know what sort of place she will have been in writing this album, just because her album wasn't all mainstream and commercial doesn't mean it was a disappointment. The album is haunting and poigniant. Lyrically just superb.

Disappointments for me -

Avril Lavigne in hiding, I actually CRAVE new material please. Kate Nash's album being DIRE when the lead single was just pure perfection and bliss.

Suprises -

Don't really know. But suprised how much I adore Bruno Mars and i'm shocked how receptive i've been of genres I don't usually rush to like dance and r'n'b and a bit of dubsteb. Swedish house mafia, magnetic man and ms dynamite "wile out" being great examples.

Successes -

Diana Vickers with a number 1 album and single. And errr not to sure about the rest.

I listened to it rushedly for BJSC (and forgot everything about it) and then never heard it again because the one week it was in the top 40 they didn't play it. (stupid Big Weekend getting in the way, they ended up playing only the top 10 and I think one other song and that was played as a live version. They skipped through about 8 new entries because they 'didn't have the time' and still filled a quarter of the hour-long show with a bunch of $h!t! Mini-rant over)
