I'd imagine the following will be remembered well in ten years - or at least representative of genres currently trendy now:

Lady GaGa - Bad Romance *1*

Tinie Tempah - Pass Out *2*

Lady GaGa feat. Beyonce - Telephone *2*

B.o.B feat. Haley Williams - Airplanes *1*

Bruno Mars - Just the Way you Are (Amazing) *1*

Tinie Tempah feat. Eric Turner - Written in the Stars

The following tracks I'd say are remembered well or remembered as classics of the genres trendy at the time:

Gabrielle - Rise *2*

All Saints - Pure Shores *2*

Melaine C, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes - Never Be the Same Again *1*

Fragma - Toca's Miracle *2*

Britney Spears - Oops!...I did it again *1*

Sonique - It Feels So Good *3*

Kylie Minouge - Spinning Around *1*

Eminem - The Real Slim Shady *1*

Craig David - 7 Days *1*

Robbie Williams - Rock DJ *1*

Melaine C - I Turn to You *1*

Spiller - Groovejet (If this Ain't Love) *1*

Madonna - Music *1*

U2 - Beautiful Day *1*

Destiny's Child - Independent Women Part 1 *1*

Eminem - Stan *1*

I'm 50/50 on Sonique...

In terms of #2s that are well remembered, I'd say Eminem feat. Rihanna - Love The Way You Lie is an obvious one for this year, and Daft Punk - One More Time is an obvious one from 2000.

I remember these from 2000:

All Saints - Pure Shores *2*

Madonna - American Pie *1*

Chicane feat. Bryan Adams - Dont Give Up *1*

Melaine C, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes - Never Be the Same Again *1*

Craig David - Fill Me In *1*

Fragma - Toca's Miracle *2*

Britney Spears - Oops!...I did it again *1*

Madison Avenue - Don't Call Me Baby *1*

Sonique - It Feels So Good *3*

Kylie Minouge - Spinning Around *1*

Eminem - The Real Slim Shady *1*

Corrs - Breathless *1*

Five & Queen - We Will Rock You *1*

Craig David - 7 Days *1*

Robbie Williams - Rock DJ *1*

Melaine C - I Turn to You *1*

Spiller - Groovejet (If this Ain't Love) *1*

Madonna - Music *1*

A1 - Take on Me *1*

Modjo - Lady (Hear me Tonight) *1*

U2 - Beautiful Day *1*

Leann Rimes - Can't Fight the Moonlight *1*

Destiny's Child - Independent Women Part 1 *1*

Eminem - Stan *1*

Bob The Builder - Can We Fix It? *3*

And from this year I think tehe will be remembered

Lady GaGa - Bad Romance *1*

Owl City - Fireflies *3* -

Lady GaGa feat. Beyonce - Telephone *2*

Usher feat. will.i.am - OMG *1*

B.o.B feat. Bruno Mars - Nothin' on You *1*

B.o.B feat. Haley Williams - Airplanes *1*

Yolanda Be Cool vs D Cup - We No Speak Americano *1*

Taio Cruz - Dynamite *1*

Bruno Mars - Just the Way you Are (Amazing) *1*

Lady GaGa - Bad Romance *1*

Tinie Tempah - Pass Out *2*

Lady GaGa feat. Beyonce - Telephone *2*

Usher feat. will.i.am - OMG *1*

B.o.B feat. Haley Williams - Airplanes *1*

I think these 5 for definite will still be remembered well come 2020 (and I think Pass Out will be the best remembered of this year's #1s)

Also possibly Bruno, Yolanda, Taio and Written In The Stars

Love The Way You Lie will be remembered as if it were a #1, kind of like rap's equivalent to Wonderwall by Oasis.

Edited by ~ braysephone ~

I remember all of them but the following #1's from 2000 I still hear on the radio/elsewhere a large amount, so I guess they've stood the test of time better than the rest. Bolded are the ones that are literally NEVER off the radio.

All Saints - Pure Shores *2*

Melaine C, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes - Never Be the Same Again *1*

Fragma - Toca's Miracle *2*

Britney Spears - Oops!...I did it again *1*

Madison Avenue - Don't Call Me Baby *1*

Sonique - It Feels So Good *3*

Kylie Minouge - Spinning Around *1*

Eminem - The Real Slim Shady *1*

Ronan Keating - Life is a Rollercoaster *1*

Robbie Williams - Rock DJ *1*

Spiller - Groovejet (If this Ain't Love) *1*

Modjo - Lady (Hear me Tonight) *1*

U2 - Beautiful Day *1*

Leann Rimes - Can't Fight the Moonlight *1*

Destiny's Child - Independent Women Part 1 *1*

Eminem - Stan *1*

I think that these will be remembered most from 2010 in 10 years;

Lady GaGa - Bad Romance *1*

Owl City - Fireflies *3*

Tinie Tempah - Pass Out *2*

Lady GaGa feat. Beyonce - Telephone *2*

Usher feat. will.i.am - OMG *1*

Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg - California Gurls *2*

B.o.B feat. Haley Williams - Airplanes *1*

Yolanda Be Cool vs D Cup - We No Speak Americano *1*

Bruno Mars - Just the Way you Are (Amazing) *1*

But who can tell?

As for the other ones, here are the ones I still hear quite often;

All Saints - Pure Shores *2*

Fragma - Toca's Miracle *2*

Britney Spears - Oops!...I did it again *1*

Black Legend - You See the Trouble With Me *1*

Kylie Minouge - Spinning Around *1*

Eminem - The Real Slim Shady *1*

Ronan Keating - Life is a Rollercoaster *1*

Robbie Williams - Rock DJ *1*

Spiller - Groovejet (If this Ain't Love) *1*

Leann Rimes - Can't Fight the Moonlight *1*

Destiny's Child - Independent Women Part 1 *1*

Eminem - Stan *1*

Bob The Builder - Can We Fix It? *3*

There are a fair amount on that list I've never heard - Madison Avenue, Melanie C's 2, Westlife's 2 (without Mariah C), A1, The Corrs.

Lady GaGa - Bad Romance *1*

Owl City - Fireflies *3*

Tinie Tempah - Pass Out *2*

Lady GaGa feat. Beyonce - Telephone *2*

Usher feat. will.i.am - OMG *1*

Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg - California Gurls *2*

B.o.B feat. Haley Williams - Airplanes *1*

Yolanda Be Cool vs D Cup - We No Speak Americano *1*

Taio Cruz - Dynamite *1*

Bruno Mars - Just the Way you Are (Amazing) *1*

((Tinie Tempah feat. Eric Turner - Written in the Stars)) *1*

I don't see much from this year's list that will have any long-lasting appeal. I'd go with Tirren's list, although I'm half tempted to throw in Fireflies and California Gurlz aswell.

From 2000; there are plenty there which are still remembered vaguely, and get the odd play on Heart FM or local radio or whatever (Kylie, Madison Avenue, Ronan, Modjo, LeAnn Rimes), but I don't think that's quite the same as being a "classic".

However there's only a handful that I think could be genuinely described as "classics" - I'd go with..

All Saints - Pure Shores

Spiller - Groovejet

U2 - Beautiful Day

Destiny's Child - Independent Women

Eminem & Dido - Stan

At a stretch, maybe Fragma and Rock DJ aswell.

2010 #1 hits that will be rememebered in 2020

Lady GaGa - Bad Romance *1* <--- technically 2009 but definitely a modern day classic

Owl City - Fireflies *3*

Lady GaGa feat. Beyonce - Telephone *2*

Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg - California Gurls *2*

B.o.B feat. Haley Williams - Airplanes *1*

Bruno Mars - Just the Way you Are

I suspect the above list will feature regularly on music channels/radio stations over the next 10 years. However, I think acts like Tinie Tempah and Roll Deep are very much of the "now" and doubt they will be getting much airplay when people move on to the next big genre in 2012.

2000 #1 hits that I've heard in 2010 - Bold tracks are my personal classics from 2000.

Gabrielle - Rise *2*

All Saints - Pure Shores *2*

Melaine C, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes - Never Be the Same Again *1*

Fragma - Toca's Miracle *2*

Britney Spears - Oops!...I did it again *1*

Madison Avenue - Don't Call Me Baby *1*

Sonique - It Feels So Good *3*

Kylie Minouge - Spinning Around *1*

Eminem - The Real Slim Shady *1*

Corrs - Breathless *1*

Ronan Keating - Life is a Rollercoaster *1*

Craig David - 7 Days *1*

Robbie Williams - Rock DJ *1*

Spiller - Groovejet (If this Ain't Love) *1*

Madonna - Music *1*

Modjo - Lady (Hear me Tonight) *1*

U2 - Beautiful Day *1*

Destiny's Child - Independent Women Part 1 *1*

Eminem - Stan *1*

The above list doesn't take into account VH-1s UK #1s Of The 00s otherwise I'd be listing all the songs. :kink: Instead, I've just thought about whether I'd heard these songs on radio or seen them on one of the music channels. As much as I adore 'Black Coffee' by All Saints, it's clearly not a well remembered hit but moreso a forgotton gem.

Lady GaGa - Bad Romance *1*

Owl City - Fireflies *3*

Tinie Tempah - Pass Out *2*

Lady GaGa feat. Beyonce - Telephone *2*

Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg - California Gurls *2*

Yolanda Be Cool vs D Cup - We No Speak Americano *1* (not sure it will be a classic but it's definitely memorable)

That's it for me from the 2010 list. :(

I think people are being a touch generous with the 2000 one also, I'd go with:

Gabrielle - Rise *2*

All Saints - Pure Shores *2*

Sonique - It Feels So Good *3*

Kylie Minouge - Spinning Around *1*

Robbie Williams - Rock DJ *1*

Spiller - Groovejet (If this Ain't Love) *1*

Madonna - Music *1*

Modjo - Lady (Hear me Tonight) *1* (even though I despise it  )

Leann Rimes - Can't Fight the Moonlight *1*

Destiny's Child - Independent Women Part 1 *1*

Eminem - Stan *1*

Will remember:

Lady GaGa - Bad Romance *1*

Iyaz - Replay *2*

Owl City - Fireflies *3*

Helping Haiti - Everybody Hurts *2*

Jason DeRulo - In My Head *1*

Tinie Tempah - Pass Out *2*

Lady GaGa feat. Beyonce - Telephone *2*

Dizzee Rascal - Dirtee Disco *1*

David Guetta feat. Chris Willis, Fergie & LMFAO - Gettin' Over You *1*

Shout for England feat. Dizzee Rascal & James Corden - Shout *2*

Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg - California Gurls *2*

JLS - The Club is Alive *1*

A very poor year for number ones this year and I would say these are the only ones that will be remembered:

Lady GaGa - Bad Romance *1*

Tinie Tempah - Pass Out *2*

Lady GaGa feat. Beyonce - Telephone *2*

Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg - California Gurls *2* (Can't stand this but it will be remembered)

I'd say these are the #1s that are well remembered now (ignoring my favs the Manics)

Oasis - Go Let it Out *1*

Madonna - American Pie *1*

Britney Spears - Oops!...I did it again *1*

Kylie Minogue - Spinning Around *1*

Eminem - The Real Slim Shady *1*

Robbie Williams - Rock DJ *1*

Madonna - Music *1*

U2 - Beautiful Day *1*

Destiny's Child - Independent Women Part 1 *1*

Eminem - Stan *1*

Lady GaGa - Bad Romance *1*

Owl City - Fireflies *3*

Lady GaGa feat. Beyonce - Telephone *2*

Yolanda Be Cool vs D Cup - We No Speak Americano *1*

Gabrielle - Rise *2*

Madonna - American Pie *1*

Melaine C, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes - Never Be the Same Again *1*

Britney Spears - Oops!...I did it again *1*

Kylie Minouge - Spinning Around *1*

Eminem - The Real Slim Shady *1*

Robbie Williams - Rock DJ *1*

Madonna - Music *1*

U2 - Beautiful Day *1*

Leann Rimes - Can't Fight the Moonlight *1*

Destiny's Child - Independent Women Part 1 *1*

Eminem - Stan *1*

Bob The Builder - Can We Fix It? *3*

I think these are the songs that have a chance of being remembered in up to 10 years time:

Lady GaGa - Bad Romance *1*

Owl City - Fireflies *3*

Tinie Tempah - Pass Out *2*

Lady GaGa feat. Beyonce - Telephone *2*

B.o.B feat. Bruno Mars - Nothin' on You *1*

Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg - California Gurls *2*

B.o.B feat. Haley Williams - Airplanes *1*

Yolanda Be Cool vs D Cup - We No Speak Americano *1*

Flo Rida feat. David Guetta - Club Can't Handle Me *1*

Taio Cruz - Dynamite *1*

Bruno Mars - Just the Way you Are (Amazing) *1*

Tinie Tempah feat. Eric Turner - Written in the Stars *1*

of course the only certainties imo are Fireflies, Bad Romance and Telephone, the others could well get lost in time, it has been a poor year for number 1s, and there will be many instances where we will look back and think 'how did that get to number 1?' or 'whats that song?' which is unfortunate

as for songs that didnt make number 1 but could become classics, I would say Love The Way You Lie is the obvious one although I think Waving Flag will go down with the classic football songs too- the other number 2s Im already struggling to remember :(

I think these are the songs that have become classics or at least that I remember from 2000:

Gabrielle - Rise *2*

All Saints - Pure Shores *2*

Melaine C, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes - Never Be the Same Again *1*

Fragma - Toca's Miracle *2*

Sonique - It Feels So Good *3*

Kylie Minogue - Spinning Around *1*

Eminem - The Real Slim Shady *1*

Ronan Keating - Life is a Rollercoaster *1*

Corrs- Breathless

Robbie Williams - Rock DJ *1*

Melanie C- I Turn To You

Spiller - Groovejet (If this Ain't Love) *1*

Madonna - Music *1*

Modjo - Lady (Hear me Tonight) *1*

All Saints- Black Coffee

U2 - Beautiful Day *1*

Leann Rimes - Can't Fight the Moonlight *1*

Destiny's Child - Independent Women Part 1 *1*

Eminem - Stan *1*

although of course I have heard of Can We Fix It, Oops I Did It Again and We Will Rock You but I think their remembered for the wrong reasons, emboldened are the ones that I think stand a chance of being remembered in 2020

as for the ones that missed out, obviously One More Time by Daft Punk has become a dance classic, other songs that spring to mind are:

Darude- Sandstorm

Coldplay- Yellow

Coldplay- Trouble

Moloko- The Time Is Now

Blink 182- All The Small Things

Bloodhound Gang- The Bad Touch

Artful Dodger- Moving To Fast

David Gray- Babylon

Bon Jovi- It's My Life

S Club 7- Reach

One that I think will be still remembered in 10 years time is the Dizzee/James Corden World Cup song due to the fact that every four/two years (accounting for the Euro) I think it will appear on the music channels, see also Three Lions, Vindaloo, World in Motion.

Fireflies is barely remembered now, everyone will have forgotten it by 2020 regardless of its sales.

Pass Out will survive in people's memories even when/if the dominant chart genre moves on IMO

Edited by ~ braysephone ~

I still play Fireflies and like it a lot more than I did when it was in the Top 10. I do like it's production.

I dont really rate anything that has hit number 1 this year - worst year for number 1s in a long long time. All this rap/pop stuff is tedious and I can't tell some of the artists apart.

Fireflies is barely remembered now, everyone will have forgotten it by 2020 regardless of its sales.

Im not so sure about that- many regard it as one of the best number 1s of the year and I think it stands out from the other number 1s genre-wise, plus sales are sales, and its the best selling number 1 of the year and most likely is going to stay there, all best sellers are remembered even if some are for the wrong reasons

I guess we'll just have to wait and see, same with all the number 1s really

I would echo grebo69's list mostly. We No Speak Americano will definitely be remembered also but not quite in the same way as those songs, if you get what I mean. There's a chance that a few more may be remembered but the likes of Iyaz, Diana Vickers, David Guetta, Roll Deep, Ne-Yo etc. will definitely be forgotten barring some freak incident that puts them right into public consciousness.

As for 2000, I'd go with:

Sonique - It Feels So Good *3*

Kylie Minogue - Spinning Around *1*

Craig David - 7 Days *1*

Spiller - Groovejet (If this Ain't Love) *1*

U2 - Beautiful Day *1*

Destiny's Child - Independent Women Part 1 *1*

Eminem - Stan *1*

Maybe I've been a tad harsh though, I dunno. I think Oops! I Did It Again and Rock DJ are more remembered for the videos than the actual songs. Bob the Builder will be remembered in the same way as Mr Blobby and Teletubbies, and forever be mentioned in chart trivia about who broke Westlife's #1 chain. :D As much as I love both All Saints songs, I don't think either are remembered by the general public at all...

Lady GaGa - Bad Romance and maybe during the summer months at a push Katy Perry - California Girls, nothing else.
