Posted October 16, 201014 yr More than 20,000 people have backed a campaign to get a recording of four and a half minutes of silence to top the charts this Christmas. Supporters have signed up on Facebook to back Cage Against The Machine which aims to put avant-garde composer John Cage's silent work 4'33" in the top spot. A similar internet campaign last year saw Rage Against The Machine's Killing In The Name beat 2009 X Factor winner Joe McElderry's song The Climb to the Christmas number one.
October 16, 201014 yr AAAHH! I don't want any more campaigns or any other X Factore realated stuff I just want something to knock those off!!! 2005: Nizlopi "JCB Song" 2006: Take That "Patience" 2007: EC & KM "What A Wonderful World" 2008: Leona Lewis "Run" (I know she's from the X factor but...) 2009: Lady Gaga "Bad Romance" These are the real Xmas number ones if X Factor/campaigns wasn't there  I don't get it... Run,Patience and Bad Romance were some of the best no1 of each year mentioned... Why to go against them anyway when 9/10 no1s were worse? This campaign sucks! Why buy and support 'silence' for no1? Are we suddenly out of songs? Also it is too soon for any campaign and I am not that sure we will need one this time... If we end up in a world of non XF abominations toping the X-mas chart because of stupid campaigns it will be even more pathetic. Don't forget the reason these campaigns started after all.
October 16, 201014 yr The point has been proven last year by a (massive) bunch of self rightous morons...lets move on this now please..
October 16, 201014 yr I think people in general have become so bored of The X Factor getting to no. 1 with yet another run-of-the-mill cover version for Xmas, are we surprised that people insist on these campaigns? Personally I liked Leona's version of 'AMLT' - much more than Kelly Clarkson's. 'Hallelujah' by Alexandra Burke wasn't that bad either - just gave the song a gospel twist. It's when you get 'When You Believe' and what could've been 'The Climb' last year, that's when I think "Are we suddenly out of songs?" to quote 7heDreamer for example. If Simon Cowell can't be arsed to draft in a songwriter and get something original (and preferably good to some degree) to no. 1 for Xmas, then let '4:33' compete for the no. 1 spot. However, if Matt or Rebecca win The X Factor 2010 then I genuinely hope Simon gives them a good winners single - it will be a cover version (well...dur!!! :D ) but hopefully not a song as hidious as 'When You Believe' or 'The Climb'.
October 16, 201014 yr how about an actual good song gettin number one this year? why some stupid campaign? last year's number one was one of the worst in history imo! and this will be a joke. Xmas number one should be a song that has meaning and someone who has great talent! would love to see a classic xmas song at #1 again (The Pogues, Mariah Carey or Slade)
October 16, 201014 yr The only campaign I want to see work is to get Fairytale of New York to #1 - especially as it will coincide with the 10 year annerversary of Kirsty's passing.
October 16, 201014 yr The only campaign I want to see work is to get Fairytale of New York to #1 - especially as it will coincide with the 10 year annerversary of Kirsty's passing. Lest we forget wasn't there a rumour earlier this year that there was a Facebook campagin to get 'God Save The Queen' by Sex Pistols to no. 1? That didn't materailise. So this '4:33' could well and truly plummet. Anyways, I agree with Knightr634 'Fairytale Of New York' is my fave Xmas single of all time - everything about the song works brilliantly and would indeed be a well deserved no. 1, and as mentioned would be a fitting tribute to Kirsty MacCall.
October 16, 201014 yr The point has been proven last year by a (massive) bunch of self rightous morons...lets move on this now please.. LMAO, self righteous morons? Please, the whole point of that campaign worked like a f***ing treat. I am fully behind this campaign as last year the point was to Rage against Simon Cowell's talentless machine as it were, and this year is to prove we would actually rather hear silence on the radio than some $h!t awful karaoke cover.
October 16, 201014 yr The point has been proven last year by a (massive) bunch of self rightous morons...lets move on this now please.. this is a completly different point than the one last year, you have obviously failed to grasp the point of either campaign. and dont get me started on you calling people beacking the rage campaign a bunch of "self rightous morons". people in this thread need to 1) stop being mass mind raped by the x factor, and 2) get a bloody sense of humour.
October 16, 201014 yr IF - this 'campaign' succeeds, it will be 100% pointless. DJ's etc. will not play the 'silent track' on the Radio. Nor will it even be played if it were at No.1. Instead, the Christmas Chart will stop when the No.2 Hit is played. The No.1 will be mentioned - but, then 100% ignored. So, it may as well not be No.1 at all. If an 'X Factor' Track is at No.2 - then that will be the final Hit played in the Christmas Chart - which means it is being treated as if it were at No.1. So, the entire idea of a 'silent track' at No.1 is 100% stupid, pointless, & only a reflection on how dumb the people are who thought of the idea. And I say that as someone who hates 'X Factor. But, I hate this idea even more. Instead, it would be better to get a Christmas Single to No.1 that has never been there before. Say 'White Christmas', by Bing Crosby', or 'Fairy Tale Of New York', by The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl. I loathe the 'X Factor', but I also loathe prople who think that it is clever to campaign for Heavy Rock, (2009), or Silence, (2010), to be No.1 at Christmas.....
October 16, 201014 yr It makes me laugh that people accuse those who buy X Factor related stuff as sheep - but isn't this the same thing? If this goes ahead you will be spending 79p or 99p on literally nothing. Considering many people face losing their jobs in the public sector - I can't believe people will willingly throw money down the drain just to spite something. Again if you want to stop X Factor - FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK!

The money is going to go towards a charity, as it did last year. And it's less than £1, what difference is that going to make exactly?
October 16, 201014 yr Funny thing is, everyone is just assuming this is just some anti-x factor campaign, im personaly into this because i think it would be amusing as f*** and embassasing to the x factor to be beaten to number 1 by silence, but thats not why the campaign exists, it actually exists because some person thought it would be amusing to start this campaign, it is to amuse themselves, what people want to take out of it (beating the x factor, finding it funny etc) is what they want to take out of it, but is not the thinking behind the campaign.
October 16, 201014 yr ...you're buying 4 minutes, 33 seconds of nothing. I supported Rage Against The Machine because it's a brilliant song, but this is just daft. If you want to download silence, I'd recommend this: UxjjB42q7HM ;)
October 16, 201014 yr LMAO, self righteous morons? Please, the whole point of that campaign worked like a f***ing treat. Calling them morons might be a bit far, but I do sort of agree with whoever said that. Many of the people supporting the RATM campaign went around all like "Yeah, the music we listen to is "proper" music. Your music is so boring. You can't think for youself, you just let the charts decide what you like. I've never watched the X Factor, but Joe McElderry is a horrible person, blah, blah, blah". Some people were really taking it too far. For most people it was a bit of fun, but others used it as an opportunity to mock people who liked Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas, etc, which was just pathetic. Especially when the song they were hyping up wasn't really much better than the likes of Bad Romance and Meet Me Halfway (infact, I'd say it was worse).
