October 27, 201015 yr If it's half this week, she'll be lucky. Her fame is fading. 'Fight For This Love' was her first single, of course she's not going to get the same numbers! That's like saying Girls Aloud's fame was fading, because they didn't get the same sales as 'Sound of the Underground' did.

That's like saying Girls Aloud's fame was fading, because they didn't get the same sales as 'Sound of the Underground' did. Oh well, at least some of the GA girls could sing. Fight For This Love is a fantastic pop song. Promise This is cringy and dreadful.
October 27, 201015 yr If it's half this week, she'll be lucky. Her fame is fading. You make me laugh. Even with 'only' 150k, it's more than what any other artist has achieved this year so far... 'FFTL' was an instant hit and a lot more radio friendly, this one is basically her 'Sexy! No no no'. She took a risk putting such a radically pop tune out, and even if it's not as big as 'FFTL', it's still bigger than any other single of 2010 (execpt Help Haïti of course). And let's be honest, yes, the hype was a lot bigger around 'FFTL' because it was her first ever solo output, and people weren't used to see her as a solo popstar. Now people are used to see her solo, so the hype wasn't going to be as big. Oh and weekly single sales of 300k happens once in a career. I can't think of any other female popstar who did it more than once (actually I can't think of any other female popstar doing it even once, X Factor winners apart). October 27, 201015 yr Promise This is cringy and dreadful. That's simply your opinion though. One that's not shared by the thousands of people who are downloading it.
October 27, 201015 yr If it's half this week, she'll be lucky. Her fame is fading. If Cheryl's star is fading then their's not much hope for the popstars behind her in the charts!
October 27, 201015 yr Yes I get that but Kangarooz is saying there's a chance that Rihanna could catch up and overtake - but I can't see evidence of that as Cheryl's lead had grown (by a considerable amount too) He said there was a chance if Rihanna's sales were increasing faster than Cheryl's. They aren't at the moment so she probably won't catch up.
October 27, 201015 yr yes but if Ri was increasing sales by a larger % of sales over Cheryl then she might be able to overtake if that makes sense? No, that's wrong. Cheryl sold 68,000 copies in the Tuesday midweeks and then sold a further 24,800 copies yesterday, to take her total to 92,800 copies, which is a 36% increase in sales. Now, for example, say Rihanna sold 100 copies in the Tuesday midweeks and then sold a further 200 yesterday to take her total to 300, her % increase in sales would be 200%. Rihanna has the higher % increase (200% vs. 36%), but isn't gaining on Cheryl at all (i.e. in the example above, Cheryl actually sold 24,600 copies more than Rihanna "yesterday"). The example is extreme to illustrate the point but the principle still stands. Its the absolute sales difference (i.e. total today MINUS total yesterday) that is the relevant statistic - and on that basis, Cheryl sold 24,800 copies yesterday, Rihanna 17,200 copies yesterday, therefore Cheryl increased her lead by a further 7,600 copies. Cheryl is STILL selling more than Rihanna and Rihanna now needs to heavily reverse that over the course of the next 4 days to have any chance - IMO that chance is zero unless she tragically passes away or something.
October 27, 201015 yr IMO that chance is zero unless she tragically passes away or something. Can u please not use comments like that please Oh god can u just drop it cheryl is selling more than rihanna end of who cares about percentages Edited October 27, 201015 yr by Jmh123
October 27, 201015 yr Tuesdays update 1 Cheryl Cole 68k 2 Rihanna 51k 17,000 difference Wednesday update 1 Cheryl Cole 92.8k 2 Rihanna 68.2k 24,600 difference
October 27, 201015 yr Can u please not use comments like that please Huh? Oh god can u just drop it cheryl is selling more than rihanna end of who cares about percentages Drop what exactly? I was explaining the %'s because some people in the thread were confused. As you already understand the issue (and your above post is helpful :)), that is fine, but please respect the fact that not everyone else did/does.
October 27, 201015 yr Oh god can u just drop it cheryl is selling more than rihanna end of who cares about percentages You may not be interested in percentages, but other people are, so maybe you could not be so rude?
October 27, 201015 yr Checking back the figures, Cheryl improved her sales by 36.4% on Tuesday, while over the same period Rihanna improved her sales by 33.7%. So not only Rihanna still sold less than Cheryl on Tuesday alone, BUT her selling power isn't even getting stronger and stronger compared to Cheryl. So I don't exactly get why some people say Cheryl could lose the race this week. Unless Rihanna has HUGE promotion before Saturday, and even with that she would have a lot to catch on. October 27, 201015 yr Whoever wins (Cheryl), the Top 2 sales are amazing! If Rihanna had been on XFactor last Sunday, the figures would be different now. Love Rihanna's new single.
October 27, 201015 yr I cant believe how much Cheryl has sold, its an awful song. I agree its more than awfull its dire, anoying & sounds more like a 4th or 5th release from an album, very weak BUT some die hard Cole fans seem not to care its Cheryl who cares. Its total pants Rihanna so deserves No1 & i hope she gets it next week after her performance on xfactor? I wonder if Cheryl had anything to say about RiRi being on Xfactor on same night she was on, day before both singles were released. Cheryl would of never stood a chance then for No1 this weekend. Even (dare i say it) Parachute is better than Promise This. Fight For This love was catchy and so was a dead cert for No1, but this is just not worthy its pure garbage ( putting it politely). Roll on next weeks chart
October 27, 201015 yr If Rihanna had been on XFactor last Sunday, the figures would be different now. Love Rihanna's new single. I think it would be closer but I still think Cheryl would be in the lead and probably still unassailable.

Kylie sold about 300k in the first week with Can't Get You Out Of My Head, but that's the only other example that springs to mind. Fight For This Love was an exception to almost every rule, a truly great debut single that had everything going for it - brilliant song, first solo single, X Factor performance, media attention surrounding her at the time etc... Promise This looks set to sell 150k at the very least, which is an exceptional achievement for any single by any artist - and I agree with all of the reasons you mentioned.
October 27, 201015 yr I wonder if Cheryl had anything to say about RiRi being on Xfactor on same night she was on, day before both singles were released. Here we are ... Thanks god Rihanna was actually in INDIA celebrating KATY PERRY'S WEDDING on that day, or people like you would have blamed Cheryl for Rihanna/Katy Perry/Nadine/Jesus's absence on the show. But maybe you're gonna say that it's actually Cheryl who planned Katy's wedding on that day so she could prevent Katy and Rihanna to perform on the X Factor the same week-end as her  Edit : Actually I've just read that Rihanna didn't attend Katy's wedding but it was a last minute cancellation due to other committements.
