Every decade has a teenybopper band that takes the charts by storm, and the early 1990s saw Take That picking up in the U.K. where '80s American teen stars New Kids On The Block left off. Led by songwriter and lead vocalist Gary Barlow, Take That hit it big with a mixture of dance-pop and heart-tugging ballads. After Robbie Williams's departure in 1995, the group held on long enough to release a greatest-hits package before calling it quits. Take That, minus Williams, re-united in 2006 for an unlikely but triumphant return to the centre stage with hit singles and albums, multiple music award gongs, as well as critical reappraisal. TT's 2009 The Circus Live tour became the fastest-selling in UK history. - HMV

A green-eyed beauty with a sultry voice, Rihanna was discovered as a teenager on her island home of Barbados, and quickly signed with the venerable Def Jam records. Powered by a Soft Cell sample, her infectious dancehall/Caribbean single "Pon de Replay," from her album the MUSIC OF THE SUN, became the summer jam of 2005, peaking at number two on the charts. By 2006 she had become a worldwide sensation, and her second album, A GIRL LIKE ME, went platinum, boosted by a Nike ad song, guest appearances on ALL MY CHILDREN, and a film part in BRING IT ON: ALL OR NOTHING. Further success followed with 2007's double platinum GOOD GIRL GONE BAD, which spawned the all conquering "Umbrella" - topping the UK singles chart for ten weeks in the summer of that year. - HMV

firework has grown on me a lot, ,much better than teenage dream.

Should have been her 2nd single off the album

Shame for Take That not getting to number 1 with their comeback - but they have enough #1s!

1. ARRRGH at TTs best song not being #1 :(

2. Peacock reminds me of BEP's My Humps!

Shame Take That only reached number 2 :( Good song, though admittedly far from their best :(

still hopefully their XF performance will boost them :)

I wouldn't really call this a comeback properly - I would say Patience was their real comeback!

Glad Take That aren't #01. It's pretty much a case of same old, same old for me.
I had a listen to the 30 second previews for the Take That album and the Flood is really different to the rest - although the other tracks appeal to me a lot less so for me I think it was a good choice - even though its weaker than Rule the World etc.
Feel sorry for Take That not hitting the top with that brillant song, but it means people will buy the album instead so it's good news.

Agreed. Oh well congrats to Rihanna.

Glad Take That are not number 1 for the sake of fairer charts.

 fairer?

I love Only Girl, I love The Flood, but which one is better? :kink:

I think Take That by rights should be #1 tbh. But it's their fault for bringing the single forward, but not the promo... I wouldn't be surprised if they majorly closed the gap at the weekend though.

it really does look like releasing rihanna on the same day as cheryl cole was a smart piece of marketing by her record company, it allowed her to get big first week sales and thn get to no.1 thereafter

(11) Black Eyed Peas - The Time

Well, I never thought this tune from Dirty Dancing was gonna be remade especially by BEP. After listening to this I rather here Patrick Swayze sing "She's Like The Wind" one more time.
