Posted December 9, 201014 yr Take That Progress to 1m sales 11:21 | Thursday December 9, 2010 Source: MW By Paul Williams Take That’s Progress has become the first album in 2010 to break through 1m sales in the UK. It hit seven figures yesterday as it also overtook fellow Polydor release The Fame by Lady GaGa to become the biggest-selling album of the year to date, according to OCC Data. Progress, which up until yesterday had sold 1.009m units domestically, has taken 24 days to reach 1m sales compared to its predecessor The Circus managing to reach the landmark in 19 days two years ago. The first album by the band since 1995 to feature Robbie Williams, Progress debuted at number one last month with 518,601 sales, the highest opening tally for any album since Oasis’s Be Here Now in 1997. It sold 208,219 and 176,881 units respectively the following two weeks and has already surpassed 100,000 this week as it heads to a fourth successive week at number one. Although it has now been overtaken as 2010’s biggest album, Lady GaGa’s The Fame is also expected to reach 1m sales this year in the next few days, having by yesterday moved its tally up to 990,000. The album was 2009’s second top seller, finishing behind Susan Boyle’s I Dreamed A Dream with nearly 1.4m sales.
December 9, 201014 yr Devastating. It's end of the year and non other album has sold 1m :o I guess albums don't sell as much as they did! I forgot to say Congratulations to Take That! Edited December 9, 201014 yr by edward88
December 9, 201014 yr last year we had 5 million sellers (I think) I think we're only going to get 2, maybe 3 this year
December 9, 201014 yr Wow, are they even going to release a second single anytime soon? Well done to Take That, just over 3 weeks to hit 1million sales, most people would dream of selling that many of one album in a whole year or more! :o Massive achievement, and only a few artists ever achieve it.
December 9, 201014 yr Great news and well done take that. Sales will be quiet decent again for progress this week as it had sold just over 903,000 copies up until last week so up until wednesday this week it roughly sold 100,000 so hopefully it will sell in or around 200,000 in total this week.
December 9, 201014 yr A big YESSS for Take That!!!!!!! Their albums will always be f***ing huge sellers!!!!! CMON BOYS!!!!!!!!!
December 9, 201014 yr it should do - sales will be bigger this week and especially next week and the following 6 days up to xmas!!
December 9, 201014 yr Is this the fastest robbie has ever manged 1 million sale sthoughout his UK career?
December 9, 201014 yr very depressing that we haven't had another million seller yet- but nonetheless, well done TT! still going strong!
December 9, 201014 yr so impressive of gaga having the 2nd best album of the year 2 years in a row! and maybe again next year!
December 9, 201014 yr I'm not surprised at all that album sales have suffered that we've ended up with our first million seller literally two weeks before the end of year. However, I'm sort of surprised 2010 albums by Eminem, Plan B and Alicia Keys haven't managed to sell close to million by now but this is reflective of the albums market sadly. The albums charts this year have been like the singles chart in 2005 - high first week position leading to a spectacular plummet in week two.
December 9, 201014 yr Im sure they will re-release the album when the tour starts or have a tour edition with maybe a new track on it!! So total sales for this album witll be completely immense!! I still cant get into the album myself but overall love the band
December 9, 201014 yr First SuBo now TT :( Poor Gaga beaten to the EOY number 1 album twice! At least year it's by a good album :smoke: It's just that Fame Monster happens to be my fave album of all time and Progress barely makes my EOY top 20. Edited December 9, 201014 yr by Liam...!
December 9, 201014 yr Yes, yes, this is all very exciting and amazing and all the rest of it but, where does that leave Take That for the second single? It'll, most likely, barely reach the Top 15. Just look at the gap between the first two singles from 'The Circus': 'Greatest Day' hit #1, but the infinitely better 'Up All Night' stalled at #14. Edited December 9, 201014 yr by OddOne
December 9, 201014 yr Yes, but their third single, said it all charted at place 9. I knew upp all night wouldent chart that high. They where trying for a new shine but, it just isent that good. Progress has severel potential singles, but its very hard to precitd how good they will do in the chart.
