I remember this from a while back so I thought I'd see how people felt about a return

 

I have chosen 2 songs that are popular and present, either in the chart or talked about future releases, just vote for your favourite, after 3 days the song with the most votes will face a new song that I choose, again either a song from the top end of the chart or a future release.

 

To start us off it's Rihanna's 'Only Girl (In The World)' vs. Ellie Goulding's 'Your Song'

Definitely Only Girl for me. It's probably the biggest song in the entire world right now. Absolutely massive, and deservedly so. It's like a much better version of Don't Stop the Music, with some European influences thrown in, which I think makes it quite a big deal that it's done so well in the US (although I thought it would never get #1 there!), as they're not so tolerant to this type of music. With Only Girl being massive there, and Stereo Love and We No Speak Americano being minor hits there, perhaps we can gradually convert them to European pop and dance music in a few years. :) They need to see the light!! :lol: Only Girl is basically a pop song, but it's a step in the right direction.

 

Also, the Bimbo Jones remix is incredible, especially during the chorus!!!

 

 

Your Song is "nice", but that's kind of it. A bit boring in my opinion. I can listen to it when it's on, but I never even really liked the original to be honest.

Only Girl of course, 'Your Song' is easily Ellie's weakest and a boring, dull, dreary cover that people have unfortunately seemed to eaten up. Yawn.

Only Girl because it's an original

Rihanna, simply because Ellie's is a cover. If it had been OG(ITW) vs. Elton's version then Elton, hands down would win.

Only Girl, because it's actually GOOD.

 

I don't minde covers, at all, but Ellie's is literally sung without a drop of emotion. The one saving grace is that it hasn't been covered in the nasty electropop production which ruined the best songs on Lights.

I'm glad people are voting for Only Girl, but "only" because it's an original? So if the worst song in existence was up against a decent cover of the best song ever made, you'd still vote the terrible song?

'Your Song' is much better, in my opinion.

'Your Song'. Although 'Only Girl' has grown on me a LOT since I first heard it, it's still lacking something for me.

Ellie's cover of 'Only Girl' is sublime too!
