Oh god, one of them is about clowns. I'm really not sure I'll be able to watch. Nor the one with the children's toy things (if it's not the same episode). EVIL.

Same here. :(

Maybe ask someone to download that episode and cut out all the scary scenes? :magic:

They're making it into a horror TV show with each season :'( Rose Tyler episodes were absolutely 'scareless' and still fantastic.

The Beast Below must have been terrifying!

Which one was The Beast Below?

The only two episodes I can remember freaking me out were Blink and Silence In The Library (the second half didn't freak me out at all though, strangely).

I have just realised, I have completely forgotten everything that happened in series 5. :drama: Will need to remind myself

Looking forward to the new series, but The Impossible Astronaut seems like a dull title, maybe because it's almost exactly the same as the first Ood episode's title.

CONFIRMED:

One of The Doctor, Amy, Rory or River will die in the series opener. And it's for good.

OH MY GOD WHY DID I READ THAT!?

And through the process of elimination it's pretty obviosu who!

And to add I guess the 7 episode shortness will be made up with Torchwood sandwiching the middle.

Disliking the repeated use of "The", like last series, but I guess that's just Steven Moffat's thing.

Ok so.....I've never watched Doctor Who...(except for that christmas special where they were on space titanic)

If I loved Torchwood will I like this? Where should I even begin? It seems like the kind of show that'll have a lot of nods to the past. :(

Right now I'm thinking I might just start with the new doctor...(or maybe start with David Tennant)

There have been references to the original series which those of us old enough to have seen them will have picked up bit it wouldn't have mattered that younger viewers missed them. Each series since the revival has been relatively self-contained. There will have been a few things that new viewers wouldn't fully understand but it shouldn't be enough to spoil your enjoyment. After all, the references to Doctor Who don't seem to have spoiled Torchwood for you.

If you have time to watch the last few series then do so. If not, then watch it anyway

This pretty much.

I started properly watching Dr Who with Series 4 and until then had just caught the odd episode. They're all self-contained enough that it doesn't matter if you've missed the rest of the show (as long as you're on top of the current series.) After I bought the entire series and rewatched lots of stuff made more sense, but it's not necessary to watch from the beginning (in this case, beginning would be Series 1: Christopher Eccleston. I'm not counting the oldies!)

I have a basic familiarity with the daleks and what they're like since they're pretty iconic in pop culture....so it's not too bad. (Some of the stories don't seem to have enemies related to older series. (like on the uk spaceship being held up by the starwhale)

There's some kind of human/dalek hybrids too isn't there? Are they still around or were they destroyed?

I've watched the first three episodes of Season 5, I might watch the next episode now, the preview looks exciting.

Then when I'm finished I might go back to the previous seasons.

EDIT: Actually I have one big question I need answered.

It's been said he's the only time lord left....why can't the doctor just go back in time to when there was more time lords and rescue them?

Edited by Sabrewulf

Two reasons:

1) The Doctor can't go back on his own timeline, that's one of his own personal rules.

and 2) The time war, where they all died (which for the record was created by Russel T Davies for the new series) is 'time locked', meaning he cant get there anyway.

Couldn't he just go back to a point in time right before the "time lock" is active and just wait it out?

Or would he just get booted out of the timeline when the "time lock" becomes active.

The answer to this is the first point that James said, the Doctor can't go back on his own timeline.

Then go back to the point right before his timeline begins (i.e not his timeline). Does Doctor Who age? He could wait it out if so...

The point right before his timeline begins wouldn't be timelocked, allowing him to travel there and wait it out.

Is that not possible?

No, it's not. I'm not sure why, but it's not. The Time Lords do return at some point in the series and it's not exactly a happy affair so I doubt the Doctor would want them back necessarily anyway...

Cannot wait!! I'm going to have to start watching my Series 5 Blu-Rays as I didn't have HD last year! Shall get to watch S6 in HD :D
