Just found out a very geeky thing but hey-ho, I'm going to say it! I just noticed that on the chart on my iPod Touch, I was looking at the different categories, and I discovered something very rare! There are more song's in the Top 100 that are Alternative (13) than Hip Hop (12) :o very shocked to see this and I bet it rarely happens considering the chart these days.

Just thought I would mention it, I have an inkling why and that's because of this week's Radio 1's Takeover idea! There are more alternative songs in the Top 300 than there usually are

jessie j looks like she's gaining on rihanna...

Then I'll be in the bizarre situation of being happy there's a new Bruno Mars song coming out... :P

JLS at 40 & 41, so they'll end up pushing their own song out of the Top 40

I find Grenade slightly boring now, so I think I'd rather have Jessie J at Number 1 next week.. Plus it's less predictable

Grenade for number 1 this week.

Wierd random boost for Martin S! Why couldn't that happen earlier in the week? :(

aye it's probably that too, she has won that sound of 2011 and brits thing so i suppose some people just don't like it when someone gets hyped up like she is being. or they could just not like the song! :P

and thanks! :)

For me, it's the song I don't like. 'Price Tag' is potentially far superior but I'm waiting to hear a proper radio version, not the speeded up thing on YouTube. To be honest though, I was the same last year with Ellie Goulding. I didn't think 'Under The Sheets' was much cop, nor 'Starry Eyed' or 'Guns And Horses'. The first Ellie single that caught my attention (musically more than anything) was 'The Writer' and I finally discovered an Ellie single I liked.

However, despite everyone bumming Adele in early 2008 I genuinely thought 'Chasing Pavements' was excellent. I now think Adele will surpass her previous success with her new album. 'Rolling In The Deep' is ace.

Thanks for those Sabrina. Oooh, Martin/Dragonette is actually not doing too shabby ^_^
He used to be part of a band called 'Seven Summers' who were good songwriters.

I must have missed all their #1's, then... :w00t:

Commercial success isn't the be-all and end-all of whether a band is 'good' or not.
Jessie J could have been number one next week had it not been for Bruno Mars.

Remind me to send him a thank-you card, then... :)

Of course, it's only fans of unsuccessful bands that say that. ;)

What the hell is this supposed to mean?

You're the one who seems to hate almost everything in the top 40 and now you're claiming it's the only good music that exists...?

My taste is pretty commercial to be honest, but I can still appreciate that it's not always the best artists that are shoved into the limelight, there are many undiscovered gems in the music industry and there always will be.

Not everything, if they're sung by a fit female like Kylie or Rihanna it's alright. :w00t: :naughty:

I said nothing of the sort!

My problem with current T40 music, is that ISTM there's virtually nothing that appeals to anyone who isn't a teenager (i.e. my age range). The main exception is Ellie G - YS, and possibly Matt Cardle (though he's only there thanks to XF).

Radio 1 needs to remember that not *everyone* loves urban.
