Here’s how the 15 acts who were listed on the Sound of 2010 list have performed chart-wise this year:

1 – Ellie Goulding. Already had a #53 hit to her name (Under The Sheets). Had 4 top 40 hits, including Starry Eyed (which made #4) and Your Song (which made #2), both of which were also top 10 in Ireland. Album Lights reached #1 in March before plummeting, and was re-released as Bright Lights in November.

2 – Marina & The Diamonds. Scored 3 top 40 hits including Hollywood (which reached #12) and I Am Not A Robot (which reached #26 in the UK but went top 10 in Wallonia and Norway). Album The Family Jewels reached #5 in the UK and went top 10 in Ireland and Greece.

3 – Delphic. Album Acolyte reached #8 at the start of the year – however they did not manage a top 75 single (the highest being the #79 hit Doubt).

4 – Hurts. Were very successful across Europe – album Happiness reached the top 10 in 9 European countries (reaching #4 in the UK). They had 3 top 50 hits, the biggest of which was the #21 hit Wonderful Life (which went top 10 in 4 European countries, including Germany where it reached #2).

5 – The Drums. Self-titled album reached #16 and produced 3 top 200 hits, with only Let’s Go Surfing (#63) reaching the top 75.

Others:

Daisy Dares You. Reached #13 at the start of the year with the Chipmunk collaboration Number One Enemy (which reached #10 in Denmark). Follow-up single and album do not appear to have been released.

Devlin. Album Bud, Sweat and Beers reached #21 and has yielded 2 top 40 hits (Brainwashed reaching #31 and Runaway reaching #15). He also featured on Tinchy Stryder’s #22 hit Game Over. Forthcoming single Let It Go (featuring Labrinth) has reached #93.

Everything Everything. Album Man Alive reached #17, but no singles reached the top 100.

Giggs. Second studio album Let Em Ave It reached #35 and produced 2 top 75 hits – Don’t Go There (which gave B.o.b. his first chart appearance) reaching #60 and Look What The Cat Dragged In reaching #53.

Gold Panda. Debut full-length album Lucky Shiner was released in September – does not appear to have charted.

Joy Orbison. Only 2010 release appears to have been The Shrew Would Have Cushioned The Blow, which does not appear to have charted.

Owl City. Second studio album Ocean Eyes reached #7 in the UK, as well as going top 10 in the USA and Germany (it reached #1 on the US Electronic Albums chart). Fireflies made #1 in 6 countries including UK and US, but follow-ups Vanilla Twilight and Umbrella Beach did not do so well.

Rox. Album Memoirs reached #97 in the UK, but reached #2 in France. Of the 4 singles released from it, only My Baby Left Me reached the top 100 (peaking at #91) – however it only just missed the top 10 in Netherlands and Italy.

Stornoway. Album Beachcomber's Windowsill reached #14, with the singles I Saw You Blink and Zorbing reaching #119 and #74 respectively.

Two Door Cinema Club. Album Tourist History reached #46, with no singles reaching the top 100. They fared better in Ireland, where the album reached #22 and the single Something Good Can Work reached #18.

Thanks for this. :)

About Daisy Dares You, I think she did release a second single, called Rosie, or something? I remember seeing it on iTunes, and it not even going top 300. I still listen to Number One Enemy all the time though.

And a couple of other bits of discography to mention:

Ellie Goulding has had another top 75 hit with Wonderman, which has so far peaked at #45, if I remember correctly. And Giggs also rapped on Game Over.

I wish Marina did better too. She's quite famous, to be fair, but Hollywood, especially was incredible and deserved far more success.

Personally I think the Sound of 2010 proved that British newcomers really didn't hit the mark that had been expected.

Tinie Tempah has been without doubt the most successful British newcomer in 2010 yet didn't make the BBC's top 10 - yet they've included Wretch 32 in their Sound of 2011 poll - he is practically a clone of Tinie Tempah. :drama:

B.o.B. and Bruno Mars have been the most successful "outside of UK" newcomers, both acts having several top 10 hits - in Bruno Mars' case as a guest vocalist on other artist's tracks.

These are the three newcomers who have dominated 2010. Ellie has done good but in comparison, the others have done better.

Tinie Tempah is definitely 'the one that got away' (cos he's British), but he's been releasing stuff for YEARS...it's only been this year that he's had big money behind him (very similar to Wretch 32 on the 2011 list...)

I think it is unfair JUST to judge on chart performances too. Take Two Door Cinema Club, ok they've not done massively well chart wise, but their music has been used on adverts and on games, so they'll have gained a fair whack from that...

Two Door Cinema Club have a pretty massive fanbase, their album has sold something like 100,000 copies in the UK and they've a huge last fm following!
I find it weird that Hurts didn't do better in the UK. Here in Finland they had the highest charting debut album of the year by a foreign act (#3) and Wonderful Life was a big hit.
Personally I think the Sound of 2010 proved that British newcomers really didn't hit the mark that had been expected.

Nope, i think they've done well, just not in terms of single or even album success. Hurts seem to have been very popular with the Coldplay demographic, Two Door Cinema Club are something like the 14th most listened to artist on last.fm this year, beating every other Sound of '10 artist i think. Chart peaks really aren't very telling.

Oh grewat thanks for sharing this wonderful info with us. I really appreciate you for this.
