Maybe not, but I'm sure it'd still sell bucketloads even if the record company decided to rush release the track this evening. 70k would easily get 'Hold It Against Me' entering the UK chart at #2 this Sunday. Look at Ireland, it's shot up to #4 in no time.

The longer they leave it, the more chance it'll have a massive first week impact, but ultimately nosedive down the charts from week 2 oneards, rather than releasing now and maintaining sales over a longer period of time even if that means peaking at #2 or lower (look at how well 'Love The Way You Lie' did).

ISTM if they were going to rush-release it here, next week would be the best time - Grenade's initial sales burst will be fading, and I can see nothing else that could threaten Britters.

Adele and Wretch 32 are both out next week.

I think Ke$ha is as well but that might have been pushed back yet another week.

Anyway, they definitely won't rush-release it unless the fake goes top 10 IMO...

Like I said - nothing that could threaten Britney...

On hearing the 2nd of the above, 'retch' was my immediate reaction. :)

It's irritating that the whole world has this, bar the UK.

I've seen no video yet, and that's very important for Britney songs. :naughty:

Yeah, but this happened with Only Girl, California Gurls, We R Who We R, Dyanamite. I could go on. Infact, this Britney song, if we're getting it in mid-Ferbruary, that's actually pretty early by UK standards. There's sometimes when we've had to wait almost 3 months.

^ Indeed. :( I just wish the UK music industry could embrace 'instant releases' like the rest of the world.
This is pure crap, I hope it flops although I doubt it will judging on what's currently in the charts. The new decade is likely to generate the biggest rubbish the music will have ever heard of :(

Yeah. :( I mean, I can understand us getting something like Nothin' On You really late, because B.o.B. and Bruno Mars were both new artists in the mainstream at the time, so obviously they wouldn't release it everywhere in the world unless it was a success in the US, but with some other songs, it's a bit :drama:.

I'm just glad we can cherry-pick from albums tbh. Like Airplanes and What's My Name? got cherry-picked tons when their albums got released, and they both entered the charts like 2 months before their release date. And then there's Love the Way You Lie that entered the top 10 the same week as every other country in the world, and before it was chosen as the 2nd single!

So yeah, it's not too bad with album tracks, but with lead singles it's just pretty annoying tbh.

They say this every decade, and every year to be honest. 2006 was the worst year ever for music. Then 2007 was even worse. Then 2008 was even worse. Then 2009 was even worse. Then 2010 was even worse. I know 2011 will be even worse to those people, no matter what music gets popular.

I don't think so. 2006 and 2007 were indeed bad but 2008 and 2009 brought a significant improvement in my opinion. And then 2010 was again dreadful...

Fair enough. I liked all those years tbh. 2010 was looking to be dreadful at first, but by around April time it became really good tbh.

Adele and Wretch 32 would both be competition for Britney...

Heard it once and i am bit mixed. It's not one of those songs i can say i liked instantly. I find Britney's songs take a bit to grow with me.

I know Britney's isn't groundbreaking when it comes to her lyrics, but i find the lyrics a little bit rubbish on this song.

UK public are too fickle to give Britney an early release though. Here, we NEED airplay (I hear it's getting decent airplay considering it premiered two days ago though!) and also Video play is an important factor. As well as promotion being nice (although that doesn't look like it matters anymore, seeing as I don't think I've seen Bruno do any sort of performance here in the UK ) but there's apparently a "special reason as to why the release date is February 20th". Hopefully something huge. But I can't help but feel we're going to be let down or something
UGHHHHH I have had enough. The whole world is basking in the sound of Britney Spears on their personal iPods etc and we are stuck waiting FOREVER. UGH. Sick of this. They wonder why us Brits are driven to illegal sites. :drama: Sort it out record labels.

Germany doesn't have it yet either...

What do you mean 'fickle'? If Britney released now she'd definitely shoot up to at least #2. Not sure if she'd overtake 'Grenade' though... she's big enough that she doesn't need airplay or video play IMO. However, she might end up missing #1 ahead of a load of front-loaded releases (similar to 'Love The Way You Lie'), but is that really a big deal at the end of the day? People make too much of the #1 spot in this country IMO. Sales >>>>>>>>>>>> peak position, especially in this era where you have singles that missed the top 20 outselling #1s!

I think the problem with the UK is record labels are too stuck into the routine of holding back releases like they did in the physical era, and therefore stubbornly tries to continue the same thing. I'm surprised they don't make iTunes albums 'album only' so they can do the same with every release, really

OH VERY DEAR.

I hate to think my home country (Ireland) is buying that soulless pile of w***. Hmm... Ah well, it's blatently being bought because it's Britney, not because it's any good. The exception of course is Continental Europe, who will lavish the song.

As for me, it's true Britney style = sh!te.

I'm surprised they don't make iTunes albums 'album only' so they can do the same with every release, really

Shhh. Don't give them ideas!

Seriously though, I'd be literally devastated if people started doing that. :(
