Comments

Thanks for your lovely comments last week - glad to hear most people are happy with the changes I have made to the schedule. You should be able to notice that there are more physical releases on the list this week. I will continue to need your help on tracking which singles are confirmed (or at least very lilely) to be released physically. Remember an asterisk* means a CD single, and a dagger† means a 7" or 12" vinyl (it ought to be obvious which by the type of act!)

You will also notice that I have changed the dates to Sundays - it felt a bit odd doing this, but the fact of the matter is almost all digital singles are now released on Sundays, the artists themselves refer to Sundays, and by the end of Sunday we often already know what will be number 1 the following week, so to keep it as Monday for the sake of tradition seemed a bit daft.

The Tip Parade is back for a second week after I had a mostly positive response for it last week. Remember it's any single which has not yet reached the UK top 40, as of the most recent Official Chart Update (though I will include re-releases and songs which accidentally charted on the release of the album). It's loosely based on radio and TV airplay, and is intended as my own personal look at how upcoming singles are faring ahead of their release. The Adele single has mysteriously disappeared from the official Nielsen airplay top 100 this week, but since she is A-listed on Radio 1 and 2, and number 8 on the Radiomonitor chart, I've decided it has to be a mistake. I've also decided that I will exclude songs which I don't see have any chance of making the top 40 singles chart - e.g. the Bruce Springsteen track is top 30 on airplay, solely due to a dozen plays by Radio 2, but since it has already been released and is not even top 200 on iTunes, its chances of crossing over to the top 40 are very small.

Please continue to help me out with news on new releases, as I cannot do this without you.

I'll leave you with this bombshell, courtesy of today's Record Of The Day mailout.

"As predicted by RotD before Christmas, confirmation is expected to emerge on Monday that certain high profile UK labels will soon begin making tracks available for sale as soon as they are released to radio. More details to follow."

It seems that this is free to download so I guess no proper digital release? ;o

Another Madcon single? Who knew

Wow :o I usually take everything Jonathan King says with a pinch of salt... but then again Britney's single is out here on Monday, which I'm pretty sure is BEFORE the first UK radio play :o

The first UK radio play? Scott Mills has played in on R1 every day this week

I reckon it'll be Adele vs. Bruno Mars vs. JLS in the top spot until Britney comes and steals it away. That is, if they'll release HIAM on the listed date.

And Ellie Goulding releasing Lights, fantastic!

Also, Mary Byrne with an album out already in March? Screams Susan Boyle's disc of covers Part III to me.

And I so dislike the idea of singkes being available to download right away. What I liked the most about the UK chart in the past was songs entering at peak positions and slowly dropping out. Now this is really gonna turn into a Billboard kinda chart. :/

Thanks for keeping the Tip Chart! Brill idea!

Next week is amazing for releases :o Britney, Wretch and Adele will enter top 5, Ke$ha, Diddy-Dirty Money and probably Jodie Connor will go top 10 :o Big clearout of the top 10 is needed though!

Oops, you should probably take what I say with a pinch of salt then

Jonathan King doesn't have anything to do with ROTD as far as I know

I'm surprised Britney Spears hasn't entered the Tip Parade UK considering the download release has been brought forward to next Monday. Even if Britney doesn't get to no. 1 in the UK, I'm sure it will at least be a top 5 hit.
I know that if a single had a separate physical & download release date, MK would list it under the physical release date. Now you've combined physicals/downloads into one, with a '*' for the physical CD, will you be listing songs under the download or physical date if they are separate?

They've really messed up Ke$ha haven't they

So if the news about tracks being released digitally to coincide with their radio release - does this mean Avril could be out on Sunday? :o

But the albums are released on Mondays, physical and digital. It seems odd to have them listed under a 'Sunday' heading. If you want to keep having singles and albums listed together, then you'll have to have some sort of double date system, like 16/17 January, 23/24 January and so on.

I didn't know it had been brought forward at time of compilation - plus it's based on airplay for the previous week and it only debuted this week didn't it?

I will be listing them separately. Beady Eye for example is on there twice. And now Britney is too.

Not going to do that. Just think of it is "week commencing" and there's no problem. <_<

The Hoosiers will need some majoosive promotion for 'Bumpy Ride'. It's easily one of the best electropop camp romps since the charts took a turn for the more synthesised sound. Super catchy as well.

It's not that bad. No one will get mixed up as surely we all know albums are out on Mondays?

Has Pitbull feat. T-Pain - Hey Baby (Drop It To The Floor) been officially released in the UK or is it an iTunes error?
