In fact I like almost any music *except* rap, which, since you seem to monitor my posts so closely, I'd have thought you'd have known.

As for 'valid reasons' my reasons are valid to *me*. I assume you don't have any problems with me excercising my freedom of speech? Just as it's your prerogative to disagree with me, for whatever reason.

I don't monitor your posts closely so I didn't know that, it's just you seem to always moan about rap music and do the YTD charts and not much more.

You don't state your reasons for disliking rap music, so if we did know them, maybe we'd be able to see where you're coming from, rather than adding a snotty comment here and there.

I don't have anything against you personally, or your dislike of rap music, it's just that you dismiss it, and you act as if you're better than people who like rap music.

There's an easy way of getting around this. Don't listen to it.

Unfortunately that would also prevent me from hearing any of the music I do like, too.

No, I will *not* accept any attempt to suppress my freedom of speech - If you don't like what I type, you'll just have to ignore it!

Can we just stop this now - I really only checked in to see if there were any more YTD sales requests...

Okay, seeing as I'm here, I'll make use of the thread...

Can I have I Gotta Feeling & Sex On Fire overall sales please? :)

I've gone past even trying to reason with vidcapper on his hatred of rap. I find it easier to just ignore his posts full stop.

Fair enough.

We're just a bit fed up of you moaning about it and it isn't creating a good atmosphere, plus this is the iTunes thread not the YTD thread.

I really wish S&M would make some progress, or at least chart in the top 40! Whenever it starts to climb up, it get's knocked back out of the top 40 :(

Guys, let's stop arguing. :( Although there is always Heart FM if you want to know you'll never hear rapping.

Let's whine about how Bruno Mars is #1 on iTunes again, shall we? :drama:

Seriously though, I'm sure Ke$ha is safe for this week, but it does seem Grenade will be back at #1 the week after.

Grenade is a slightly more acceptable #1 than WRWWR I think but I don't like either of them.

Why don't you apply it to yourself first? If you don't like what you hear, you'll just have to ignore it and listen to something else, simple isn't it?

And please stop with the "freedom of speech" ludicrous argument, you can say whatever you want, just as much as we can say you're getting repetitive and boring with your constant dig at urban music. "Urban" music is not even a genre, it crosses so many types of music anyway.

Grenade and We R Who We R are both okay songs, but I don't really love any of them.. so not fussed on who is Number 1. I'd rather we had something new

As long as Ke$ha gets her first solo #1 on Sunday then I don't mind Grenade going back to the top :)

It's funny how whenever we have a run of 1-week #1's, we complain about 'non-#1's' and the quality of the songs, but then when we do have a track that stays at #1 for more than 1 week, everyone complains because they are bored of it and the song at #1 is denying the song that they want to be #1!

I'm bored of it because it's REALLY BORING :P I actually wanted Bruno to stay #1 this week because it's been ages since we've had a 4 week #1 and that could well have happened if it weren't for Ke$ha interrupting...

There aren't really any #1 contenders out the week after next, maybe Chipmunk & Chris Brown could challenge I suppose, so if Enrique doesn't get #1 I guess Bruno could probably get 4 non-consecutive weeks, but then he could have got 5 if it weren't for Ke$ha which hasn't happened for even longer.

I've never really liked having tracks at Number 1 for a long period time. I end up disliking them for being too overplayed

It's not correct that I haven't said why I don't like it, it's just that such posts tend to get lost in the flood.

However, I will restate them here for the record :

I find rap, dark, depressing, aggressive & obscene. Personally I use music to escape from the troubles of everyday life, which is why I prefer uplifting genres, like pop & dance. When I was a teenager, it was punk that filled the musical niche that rap now occupies, but even then I didn't like songs which lowered my mood.

I certainly don't intentionally come across as thinking I'm better than people who like rap. If that's how you feel, then I apologise, but I cannot change how I feel about the music.

I also hate getting sucked into these musical slanging matches, but when someone claims that rap is the best thing since sliced bread, it's hard for me not to rise to the bait...

Okay, seeing as I'm here, I'll make use of the thread...

Most commercial rap music isn't like this at all. What about the Dizzee Rascal singles? They're up-tempo and mood-raising, but you still (presumably) hate them. What's the reason for that?

Well, some hip hop songs are dark, depressing, etc, but many are littered with puns, jokes, disses and cultural references, which are kind of the opposite of depressing, for me.

Just as well you're too young to remember Bryan Adams in 1991, then. :P
