Yeah, i was a lurker for a little while, and something I've picked on is how male artists seem to be hated compared to female artists, whether they are good or not....is that how it is here? Really? Maybe that's not the whole picture?

In general I think female artists are liked more on here, but quite a few of us do like artists such as Tinie Tempah, Bruno Mars, Drake etc..

Someone who is successful (deserved or not) are always going to get hate. No matter where you go. So it's not hard to see why Bruno, Cheryl, Jessie etc... get the hate. Jessie is getting hate because she may not be living up to the hype that people expect from her. She gets hype, but people like to set their standards too high (without realising) so are disappointed when they hear the songs and stuff. (It's not just with Jessie J either, Florence, Marina and Ellie all have their fair share of haters)

It's just the way of life. Yeah Buzzjack maybe slightly biased towards female acts, but that's because we're on a pop forum and at the moment, I'd say the females are the strongest and in their element at the moment.

Tinie seems to be liked a lot on here actually....

Actually i agree somehow with this!

One simple question: how you define an overrated act? Isn't supposed to be an act that get's more attention than it deserves?

Couldn't have said it better myself. It does get tiresome when you always get comments about BuzzJack preffering females, it's not always the case and it gets boring imo.

Thats not true. Cheryl Cole hate is rife here unfortunately. And then they loon over Katy B -_-

lol. True about Cheryl, but who here loons over Katy B? I usually feel like I'm the only one who actually likes her tbh. :(

For me, an overrated act is an artist who, in general, gets more critical acclaim than they deserve. So, JLS, for example, get loads of #1s, but I wouldn't say they're overrated, because I hear their music criticized a lot. Even on the radio I've heard a few sarcy comments made by presenters and things. A song like, OMG, I wouldn't say is overrated, because, whilst it did sell a LOT more than we all expected, it also doesn't get an enourmous amount of critical acclaim, and actually seems more hated, if anything. Despite how much it sold, I've never really hear people going around saying "OMG is such an incredible song".

Not all songs that get good reviews I find overrated though. If I think they deserve their popularity, then that's fine. But then that comes down to opinion. People are always going on about how much they love Love the Way You Lie, but I love it too, so I wouldn't say it's overrated, in my opinion. A song like Bad Romance, gets similar critical acclaim, but I think it's boring, so I'd say it's overrated. If you liked Bad Romance, and hated Love the Way You Lie, you'd think it's the other way around.

So what's overrated comes down to opinion, basically, which is probably why we all get into these arguements.

It's all down to personal opinion I think. It's usually an act who is getting great success or a great amount of hype with alot of fans too ... if you don't like that acts material, you'll think they're overrated. Some may think Bruno is overrated, some may think Jessie J is overrated ... all boils down to personal taste at the end of the day.

I personally think females(except Jessie J )are better singers than males. Female voices are just more suited to singing I think.
Females make better singers? Good point, I guess. Males make better rappers though :P

Your not

The problem with the female bias on this forum is that it leads to $h!tty female songs getting way more love than they deserve. I can't even think of a female song that was universally hated here. The closest I can think of is maybe Whip My Hair, Start Without You or Katy On A Mission but even they had quite a lot of love as well.

And there's definitely a "glass ceiling" for male songs in contests like the Record of the Year thing etc being done right now, which is also a shame. It seems like a brilliant male song can only get about as high as #4 on things like that, while average female songs do a bit better.

Apart from that, though, I really don't mind the female bias. I generally prefer female voices to male, too.

How can u say that? my mum can't sing at all and your saying cos she is a girl, she must be better than, Bruno Mars, Michael Buble etc ?

I think they mean female singers ;)

I'd say females are better singers too tbh. If you look at the best/strongest singers such as Celine Dion, Leona Lewis, Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey etc. they're mostly female. The male singers tend to be vocally weaker. Or maybe it's just that I really prefer females?

I can't believe how quickly Jessie is climbing now.

Well, although i may not like an act, if he can sing i wouldn't call him overrated! For example, i can't think of a bigger overrated act at the moment from Katy Perry! But as you said it's an opinion at the end of the day!

Looking at my favourite songs from the past few years, such as Live Your Life, Never Leave You, Meet Me Halfway, Airplanes, etc, they've all got females singing the hooks actually...

100% the second! Doesn't matter if you are a female or male, to have a good voice!

I disagree. My favourite rapper is Nicki Manaj.
