Two Door Cinema Club now top 70, their best ever placing on the iTunes chart. At this rate they could go top 40 next week, it's a pity it's with one of their weaker songs (give me Something Good, or I Can Talk any day)

*Cough* Madonna American Life *Cough*

I like American Life

Although it is one of my least favourite Madonna singles

And she cannot rap at all, it's appalling

To say that rap is easy is ridiculous

The talent of people like Eminem, Kanye and Jay-Z is incredible, I certainly couldn't ever do it

I Need a Doctor down to #13. Hmmmmmmm.

:yahoo:

I'm sorry, I don't need a doctor. :teresa:

#66 at the moment.

Also believe they could go top 40 next week.

I am NOT amused.

Seriously though, I hope it stays around for a while, and a lot of people buy it. But I doubt it. :(

Also, H.A.M is now #999. It's very rare we see a track fall that far from the top 10 on iTunes in such a small space of time... Shows the importance of airplay!!

ISTM such a dramatic fall cannot *only* be due to a lack of airplay.

You clearly don't actually listen to rap music, you just hear people not doing OTT vocal gymnastics and turn it off or block out your ears. If you'd actually bother listening to a rapper it's fairly clear it's not just 'normal speech'.

I don't listen to any more rap than I can possibly help - which should hardly come as a surprise to this forum  , but it doesn't change my opinion that actual singing and/or playing an instrument, requires more talent.

theres more thought than you think that goes into rap music- the lyrics, the delivery, the rhyming, the emotions, fitting your voice to the beat- its not easy

But there's nothing there that doesn't apply to ordinary singing, either - but that doesn't explain why I prefer singing to rapping.

I guess it's partly an age thing - I tend to roll my eyes at the music my parents generation liked, and in 25 years time, I dare say the children of current teenagers will exhibit a similar reaction to their parents music collection. ;)

Not everyone can rap :P

Must admit I'm not familiar with that song, as it fell during the period when I'd stopped closely following music (late 1985 to late 2003).

Considering it's hardly had any airplay and most thought it wouldn't even crack the Top 40 then I definately wouldn't call it a disaster

Will it suffer the same fate as H.A.M., though?

ISTM this raises another issue - will an early pre-airplay spurt of sales, followed by an equally rapid drop, dissuade radio stations from giving such songs real support later?

With the notable exception of Rumer? She went top 20 on iTunes somehow.

No as it has already been added to Radio 1's Playlist and so they will be supporting it

<cough>Ellie Goulding<cough>

She's not a Radio 2 artist as she's also heavily backed by Radio 1 as well as far more commercial stations than Rumer or Sara Barellies could ever dream.

Then we're going to end up with some very strange chart runs. :)

Ellie Goulding? You mean the artist with quite possibly the second biggest hype at Radio 1 in 2010 besides Tinie Tempah? Yeah, she's not a Radio 2 artist.

Eric, I doubt Eminem or Dr Dre give a $h!t where they get in the chart here as its number 1 on US itunes anyway......

Well, I can't imagine much more of a radio 2 song, than her cover of 'Your Song'... :)

One song, suited to Radio 2 doesn't make her a "Radio 2 ARTIST".

Of course not - but IMO her gentle pop/dance style is generally well suited to R2.

But that's not what 'Radio 2 artist' means.

Radio 2 artist means artists which get big support from Radio 2 and possibly commercial radio but R1 refuse to playlist them. Normally applies to more MOR artists such as Rumer.

Also Your Song was added straight to Radio 1's B-List rather than the normal C-B-B-A route and was played a *lot*.

No, but I care. It's just embarrassing for our country. I bet people in the US look at the UK iTunes chart, and are like "roflmao, I Need a Doctor isn't even in the top 10 ". :(

And poor Alex Da Kid. People from his home country aren't buying his music. :( I feel ashamed.

I doubt people from the US would be laughing so much just because a song isn't in another countries top 10 on iTunes...

And people are of course buying his music, otherwise it wouldn't be top 15 right now?

A lot of people bought 'Airplanes' & 'Love The Way You Lie', and people are still buying 'Coming Home'...

Yeah, Airplanes and Love the Way You Lie did relatively well, I suppose.

Yeah, I doubt Alex Da Kid cares. He's produced songs for Dr. Dre, Rihanna, B.o.B., Eminem and T.I.'s albums. Can't be too bad for him!! I can definitely understand why all these world-wide superstars want him to produce for them! :D

Yeah, Airplanes and Love the Way You Lie did relatively well, I suppose.

Relatively well? They were both massive, especially LTWYL, best-selling song of 2010 in the UK and everything

Yeah, remember that time Love the Way You Lie got to #1? :nocheer: But yeah, I supppose a (future) million-seller can't be too bad for him. :D Infact, LTWYL has to be one of the best-selling hip hop songs of all-time, surely?

Okay, I think I'm over-reacting a tiny bit. I'm going to try and move on. :D However much I die inside every time I Need a Doctor drops a place on iTunes. I don't know why I'm so bothered anyway. It's done far better than I was expecting. I thought it'd do like Kush.
