The PopJustice interview just made me more confused than ever. I adore Marina, but she doesn't half overthink these things. Loving this though, I have no idea if it's a single, a buzz-single or what but nevertheless I can't wait for the album.

"Electra Heart is a story. I don’t even know if it’s going to take the form of an album yet, but it’s a really cinematic 70s Americana-type film and each part of the story comes in Part One, Part Two, Part Three. The song that’s going online today is Part One. It’s quite hard to explain because I think a lot of people will think Electra Heart is an alter ego or something but she’s not, it’s kind of basically a vehicle to portray part of the American dream, with elements of Greek tragedy and that’s all going to be coming out through the visuals. It’s hard to explain but I think you’ll see it when it all comes together."

"Electra Heart is the antithesis of everything that I stand for. And the point of introducing her and building a whole concept around her is that she stands for the corrupt side of American ideology, and basically that’s the corruption of yourself. My worst fear - that’s anyone’s worst fear - is losing myself and becoming a vacuous person. And that happens a lot when you’re very ambitious."

OKAY. I wonder what the Dr. Luke and Stargate stuff sounds like.

The ending is beautiful. I hope the whole thing will grow on me and I cannot wait to hear the full album.

I am told this is the single artwork

Wouldn't say I hate it as such, but it is very different to last era to say the least..

I am loving this artwork.
The Popjustice man came across such an arsehole in that interview...

Do you think so? I thought he came across quite well.

Don't think you were reading the same interview then. The guy was an absolute twat with an obvious chip on his shoulder about sleeping through the last chance he had to interview her.

I don't like the artwork. It doesn't look artsy, it doesn't look 'cool', it looks try hard and, paradoxically, tacky.
I'd far prefer the artwork if it didn't have the text.

I agree. For a starter, that font is horrid. And you don't go putting writing on that, it looks out of place. :(

That artwork is terrible I've seen much superior work in the cover design thread.
Stargate? Dr. Luke? Diplo? Not quite the direction I was expecting. Now I have nay idea of what sound to expect. Perhaps we shall get a few Polow Da Don tracks and a Chris Brown duet thrown in for good measure.

I'm feeling the same...really didn't think she'd go down the Dr Luke/Stargate route whatsoever.

Even the recent artwork suggests a more alternative sound, which seems odd considering with who she's been working with!

So she's abandoned Kurstin, Stannard, Howe and Gabriel?

Such a shame as Greg did great job with Foster the People.

I do like Dr. Luke, especially his work with Kesha, but he's more of a hit or miss.

Have you ever read a Popjustice interview before? That's just his usual demeanour/sense of humour. He's quite a big Marina fan too (he named The Family Jewels as the 3rd best album of 2010) so he would hardly be rude to her purposefully.

I forgot that popjustice was that fukkin cretin Peter Robinson's website whom I have loathed ever since I first read his f***wittery in the dying days of the Melody Maker and is one of the people I hold responsible for its demise.
