Interesting site but I don't believe those sales for a second! That would mean that #1000 on iTunes would sell either 1 copy a day or nothing (how would it even compute what to chart at the lower end?). I read that the average #1 sale in Sweden is between 3,000-5,000 copies a week, although this is vastly inflated when it's Melodifestivalen season. I read last year that Anna Bergendahl sold about 10,000 copies the week after it won the competition. They have a population of 9.3 million so this is the equivalent of a UK #1 selling about 65k with the average #1 selling 20-30k so sales are a lot lower comparatively, but not as low as that site would suggest.

Sales though are low enough there to ensure that an act that does a physical single signing tour can quite easily score themselves a top ten hit which has led to some very random top ten's in recent years, which crash out of the top 60 altogether the following week.

Yeah, 3-5k sounds about right (maybe a bit low; see below), I was definitely joking before when I said a couple of copies to get a hit in Sweden and that site suggesting 100 digital copies is wrong (even though I'm sure Sweden still has a strong physical market and/or iTunes doesn't count for as large a share of downloads there as it does in the UK).

In fact, comparatively to the UK with 83.9k (vidcapper's average #1 sales for 2010) and 61.8 million population, the equivalent for Sweden would be 12.6k (based on population of 9.3 million) (how did you get 20-30k gooddelta?)

The figure for Sweden will definitely be lower though because the UK is one of the largest buyers of music per head of population globally. I'd suggest Sweden averages maybe even as low as half the UK figure, so probably around 5-6k average for #1 in Sweden (obviously outside Melodi).

I've looked at some iTunes top 1000s from other countries before, and one of them I looked at actually didn't go to 1,000. I'm not sure if it was a glitch or something, but I think it might've simply been because 1000 different tracks weren't downloaded on iTunes in the past 24/48/whatever it is hours. Does Luxembourg have an iTunes? It might've been that.

Also, last year, since France only counted physicals in its official chart (:drama:), I remember there was one week when you needed a ridiculously low amount of sales to chart. It was double figures or something. I just felt depressed for them. :(

Is the top 10 dominated by Melodifestiven tracks the week after?

Not just one week, try the 8-10 weeks the competition lasts!

Wow! :o Imagine if that happened with Britain's national Eurovision final!

Its basically has a similar effect on the Swedish chart as our X Factor, only more pronounced both in terms of peak positions and number of acts.

Anna's #1 sold 10k on its highest week - there are about 6.5 times more people in the UK than in Sweden - hence the equivalent of a 65,000 sale in the UK. Therefore, considering the average #1 in Sweden sells 3,000-5,000 that would work out as the equivalent of an average UK #1 selling 21-32k...(6.5 population multiplication rate). And a UK #1 would never sell that lowly these days, proving that indeed, per head Swedes buy a lot less music than Brits.

I found the thread. One week last year, Evacuate the Dancefloor by Cascada got #100 in France selling 12 copies. :nocheer: EDIT: Actually, re-reading the thread, the week after, the song that charted at #100 sold 9 copies. 9!?!?!? The chart only counts physical sales though, remember.

Alors on danse was #1 there at the time, selling almost 4,000 copies, which doesn't seem too dreadful compared to the #100 selling 12.

Yes. In 2009, the entire top 12, plus #14, #16, #17, #18 and #20 the week of the final were Melodifestivalen entries, with Lady Gaga's Poker Face crashing 2-15 and the previous week's #1 falling 1-16! Even Gaga couldn't put up a fight against the might of MF!

Seriously, sales skyrocket in these few weeks!

I was thinking last year, the sales in the UK could've been MASSIVE if the X Factor songs were chart eligible, and if Glee aired in the UK at the same time as the US, as they've all coincided. The chart would've been very annoying, but the sales would've been SO high!! :o Especially bearing in mind the Glee songs would've sold a LOT more if the show was aired before most of the hardcore Glee fans illegally downloaded all the tracks...

By definition, the hardcore fans would still buy it, to show their support to the show.

 Go Melodi!!

Champion #1, knew it'd get there eventually, must have a good lead now.

Yeah 3x #4 :o So catchy, puts you in a good mood too really upbeat and feel-good vibe to it.

RITD #5 still.

Havent liked Higher (#7) really until i heard it in Asda today and then realised, wait this is actually a good tune

S&M #11, must be so close to top 10, the controversy was front of the metro paper today, even more exposure!

Cannot believe P!nk may miss out on top 10 again, however the clean version when its released may, combined, see it peak at #10 just, maybe, i hope anyway.

Who's That Chick #13! :D

Wonderman (#15) HAS to make top 10!

NICKI MINAJ #24?! :o :o (actually can see why this song is doing well, its actually okay )

By definition, the hardcore fans would still buy it, to show their support to the show.

You know what I mean!!

And I hope S&M goes top 10 now!!! Whilst Coming Home is safe at #9. :D

Wonderman is album track or is the single version? It would be awful to miss top 10 again! Invincible deserved top 10 so bad!

It's the album version. I think the single version is released on 7th March, although it's exactly the same as the album version. But on the 7th March (or whatever the release date is), an instrumental version of the track and an audio recording of Tinie and Ellie's performance at the BRITs Launch Show will be released, along with

, so that could boost sales a tiny bit.

I really hope it goes top 10. :(

given how successful the dizze & florence duet was last year and how well it did on itunes i wonder if they're gonna do something similar this year..
