It's in the UK Spotify charts today at #170! I love that this gets some recognition now... but it needs MORE!!!!

I’m with you on loving the video!

The song isn’t one of my favourites but that’s more because she has such high quality it’s just others are more incredible rather than this being bad. Not something I’d have put out as a pre album single though no way!

Definitely not NOW as a pre-single but back then she was super brave and pretty untouchable so she went for it! Riding off the back of The Fame Monster and Born This Way single she had free reign to do whatever she wanted  it set the tone for her career~ she calls the shots x

To be fair the fact this went top ten is impressive considering how controversial it was.

And an OA/OS release too that’s one thing Gaga has pretty much always done from Bad Romance onwards. Just imagine if we had some pre orders for her hits released pre streaming era probably even more impressive peaks!

I think had this not leaked before hand and had it been released on chart day (Sunday it would’ve been at the time?) it may have went top 5 here. I’m more impressed it managed to go top ten in the US though as they’re way more religious as a country (If that makes sense like I think the controversies regarding religious references in music are frowned upon way more there than they are here).

Top 3 song & video. Y'all can D E A L W I T H I T quite frankly.

A BANGER!

Steps-lite cheese and it should never have been a single - and neeeever the second one!

Interesting point about the release (again like Born This Way). Chart mods/Liam K, do we know where it could've peaked had it had a full week debut?

Seems like it got released at half 5 on Friday so its #14 debut with 20,729 sales was achieved in 30.5 hours. If we pretend all those people would have downloaded had it been released on the Sunday for a full week of sales, then it would have achieved #4 debut with sales of 54,432.

I think the on air / on sale strategy harmed it more than the early release though. We're obviously used to having songs readily available as soon as we hear them nowadays, but not all record labels were following this strategy back then. It wasn't a widely publicised strategy and the songs in question were missing out on the promotional schedule that usually preceded a release. They just couldn't compete with songs that had a much more beneficial release plan.

As for the song itself, I loved it at the time and still do now! I know I loved 'Born This Way' too but I think I ended up preferring 'Judas' back then. A shame it's one of her more forgotten singles now. That video was fab, perhaps the best from Born This Way?

The chart performances of the first three Born This Way singles really annoyed me due to the OA/OS releases. I'm sure they all topped the iTunes charts so I always felt like they were missing out on really good chart positions. Those chart runs really played on my nerves too!

It's crazy to think they screwed themselves out of a #1 and a #4 follow-up simply for the mindlessly stupid decision to release them both midweek. I'll never understand it.

It was because then singles were released on Friday in the US and she didn't think it was fair that some fans were able to get the song before others :') the album was for the fans so I guess she had to run with this message and not focus on the charts globally!

I guess the sales weren't really affected, but their peaks definitely were :(

Just having a look back at 'The Edge of Glory' which was released on a Monday at 9pm so lost out on nearly two days of sale. It would have been #4 with some ease, maybe even Top 3. Tbf, I've just reminded myself it was only a promo single at this point and only promoted to single when it was clear how loved it was.
