February 18, 201114 yr Not sure if serious... But if you are, I agree! :yahoo: Yep i'm 100% serious! :D Katy Perry never mimes. I agree she's not a great live singer, but a mimer she is not. Really? Good for her, although it doesn't save her! Studio tracks: an ok listenable voice Live: crap crap crap. So different from her "studio" - fixed voice! So she may not miming but still she's cheating her fans by selling something that she doesn't have!

I love her music videos, bul live... Not so much.
February 18, 201114 yr Rihanna pretty much always performs live now. Granted with backing vocals, and on the Grammys/Brits it was heavily backed (due to her being really ill) I don't mind if someone mimes now and again, but I agree its unforgivable at a concert when you've payed to see someone!
February 18, 201114 yr I think Katy Perry should mime every performance as her live vocals are dire.Even when she is clearly trying hard to give a good live performance it is still terrible The Grammys/X-factor.Amy Whinehouse should maybe try mining to as her current singing voice is also p*** poor. I think for every other artist who claims to be a singer there is no excuse for the amount of miming current pop acts do.Sadly Rihanna does too much miming as her live vocals are not strong, Cheryl has built an entire career on miming I eagerly await her attempt to break America as they rarely let artists mime,JLS sing well so why so much miming.Since autotune and the fact that a backing track and not a live band are used in so many television performances many acts just dont make the effort.

LOL you are so right!
February 18, 201114 yr In short, the occasional TV promo event could perhaps be considered forgiveable to lip-synch, but major award ceremonies and concerts should always be sung live.
February 18, 201114 yr Author In short, the occasional TV promo event could perhaps be considered forgiveable to lip-synch, but major award ceremonies and concerts should always be sung live. YES!
February 18, 201114 yr You really 'hate' Rihanna don't you? First you call her a sl*t and a wannabe-sexy in the Rihanna forum, then you create a hate thread in the Pop forum mentioning Rihanna and now you calling her a mime after she partly mimed her BRIT award performance ? Anyways, I don't like artist's miming as it does kinda make them look lazy and boring on stage. I'd rather hear them sing live [P.S. I still can't get over Adele's amazing BRIT performance  ] Edited February 18, 201114 yr by WillR0713

February 18, 201114 yr I'd actually rather people perform live on TV, even if it is just on Loose Women or whatever. Not that it would make any difference to most of the viewers, but it would be nice. I don't mind a few bum notes in a live performance either. Unless the whole thing sounded like cats in heat, it's OK. After all, you're watching an act you like/love/your musical idol - the experience should be as if not more important that the technicalities of the singing. It would probably be worse if they turned up two hours late, out of their heads on booze or drugs, were really obnoxious but did a decent performance.
February 18, 201114 yr When i saw Katy Perry live i thought she was phenomenal. We didn't expect much, she was filling a gap we had between acts we really wanted to see, but she was actually really good. She was mine and my friends biggest shock of the festival and probably top3 overall. I can't stand people who don't sing live. It's like what's the point in being a singer if you are going to lip sync badly to a backing track [Oh hai Cheryl/GA] I don't even think it should be done on TV Shows. Plenty of people have sung live on ToTP over the years and so many more mimed. There's no excuse for them miming when the facilities exist for them to sing live. No excuse. Also, if i'm paying i want live vocals.
February 18, 201114 yr I don't particularly care about hearing them live, I pay to see the performer, not to hear them sing. If I wanted to hear them, I'd just listen to their CD. If they are putting on a spectacle, then they can lip-sync for England. If an artist is just standing around and not singing though, then that's different. But I really do wish Beyonce would mime because when she dances and sings, she does what I can't stand.. She will sing one word and then have the backing singers finish off the line for her and she never ever sings the chorus. Edited February 18, 201114 yr by Scherz
February 19, 201114 yr I don't really care tbh. If an artist will sound dreadful if they sing live, I'd rather them mime tbh. I like the music. Doesn't matter if they're singing live or not.
February 19, 201114 yr I have no time for artists who continuiously mime and i agree i would prefer a bad live performance than someone miming. This was what totally put me off britney spears as everytime i saw her on tv etc she mimed and then i heard she also mimes on tour so i was totally put off by that. I also agree a few bum notes in a live performance is understandable, a live performance in my opinion gives a song its true energy and especially at concerts.
February 19, 201114 yr I think it can be good when the singers can't actually sing the song very well. Like Katy Perry with Firework. That's such an epic song, and when she sings it, she really struggles to sing it properly, but it really sounds like she's putting her absolute all into it, and it sounds quite adorable and touching to be honest. If one of those really good singers like Lady Gaga, Adele, Ke$ha, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, etc. sang it, it'd just be too easy for them. They'd just be like "Yeah, look at me, I'm singing a note, um wow. Oh, I'm so talented". Whilst with Katy, she really has to put her all into it, and it just seems so much more imo.

Good singer? In this performance kids put more effort and emotion to the song than Katy Perry! e2JMYq6Tevw
February 19, 201114 yr My motto should be EVERY singer has to sing live. The only way to weed the ones out from the bona-fide genuine singers to the pretty faces is make it mandatory for them all to sing live and perform with an orchestra/band.
February 19, 201114 yr If they do a mimed performance once in a while and actually manage to cover it up well then I'm not too fussed as long as I enjoy the performance on a while and like the song JLS sing well so why so much miming.Since autotune and the fact that a backing track and not a live band are used in so many television performances many acts just dont make the effort. I agree that they pretty much mimed everything at the start, but their recent performances since Love You More have all been live.. I think they've finally realised that if they want to last the distance then they need to sing live more often.. Dancing or no dancing Eyes Wide Shut live yesterday on The Chris Moyles Show: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00f5hgl Billionaire with Travie McCoy LGbGi72zsz0
February 19, 201114 yr There is NO excuse to mime. Pink. Grammys 2010. Glitter in the Air. 100% live. Whilst twirling around in the air. She's such an amazing singer and artist and seems to get so overlooked these days.
