November 25, 201113 yr Such a bummer this is flopping so bad :( It's such a good album, and deserves at least 15 places higher! Sadly it was really inevitable, I knew MHTO would be a bad choice of single to lead the album - they really should've put it out after All Fired Up!
November 25, 201113 yr Ouch top 20 today :(, Looks like it will chart outside the top 20 by sunday, Such a shame hope it doesn't fall out the top 40 next week. :(
November 25, 201113 yr OMG at this increasingly likely prospect that this album won't even reach the top 20. *flush* Doesn't take away from how I enjoy the album but it's sort of... embarrassing.
November 25, 201113 yr Be realistic for a minute here guys. The lead single from their album just bombed. The arena dates are using limited seating but even then none of them are selling out so they probably won't sell any more tickets than if they had just toured academies again (and why would the amount of people who want to see them live have grown since their last tour when their popularity as a chart act hasn't increased?). I'm sorry but I think people ARE being blinded because they're big Saturdays fans and can't imagine a pop landscape without them. I get that but you have to try and realise that most people among the general public could very easily imagine a pop landscape without the Saturdays because in the three and a half years they've been going, they simply have not impacted on the public consciousness in the way that Girls Aloud had within two years of their formation. They're not an A-list chart act, they're not tabloid favourites (the Daily Mail might post lots of pictures of them clubbing but they're not making the front page of the red tops for their personal dramas are they?)... even if they were, how is being splashed across the tabloids going to make them sell records? Photos of them with their boyfriends on a night out will not affect their record sales in the slightest and that's a silly notion to have. I don't understand where this idea that they're 'lucrative' comes from. Lucrative how? I like them a lot (moreso than before with the release of what is by far their best album yet) but they're not invincible and they will need a very big turnaround very quickly if they're going to survive another eighteen months. As for the Sugababes, they're 100% over regardless of what 'publishing' deal they've signed (and christ, even Nadine has a publishing deal!) but my point is that they were dropped and the Saturdays never had the popularity that the Sugababes did at their peak or even a third of it. Love this!
November 25, 201113 yr Could've predicted this when they decided to go with MHTO to launch the album off. Let's be honest, who really wants to hear a mid-tempo ballad by the Saturdays? Might be great for their fans but I don't think it's something the grand public is jumpin' up and down about. (still baffles me how well Missing You has done so maybe they thought they could do it again or something??) Tbh I think the Saturdays are quite rightfully flopping. They still fail to bring some personality or edge in their music, and after 2 albums and an EP it would have been time by now.
November 25, 201113 yr Author #43 debut in Ireland this week. What do you say to that. What can you say other than that's f***ing awful. Edited November 25, 201113 yr by 2ndAdventure
November 26, 201113 yr They really should have known that a Vanessa/Rochelle led single was a bad idea from the start. Judging by the pre-orders from the album, the likes on facebook etc.. they're the least popular with the target market. I like MHTO but when you hear some of the other tracks on the album, it really makes me wonder who on earth makes these decisions. There's always someone passing the blame around, but I'm pretty sure it's time to start throwing shade at the label. They consistently choose the wrong singles to lead the campaigns, dating right back to 'If This Is Love'. Had their debut single been 'Up' and released the album with 'Issues', we could be looking at a completely different story altogether. Second time with Forever is Over, Third time with Missing You and Fourth time with Notorious.. they just constantly get it wrong. It is worrying though, I'm dreading going to MEN arena because I will hang my head if the tiers are just completely blacked out. Think of the reviews they are going to get, forget the actual show, they're going to be overshadowed by lack of bums in seats. I honestly don't know how the hell they're going to get out of this one, it's just all adding up to a Greatest Hits & goodbye situation. Una's having the baby, god know's what's wrong with Frankie, single and album tanking.. It's really not looking good.
November 26, 201113 yr They really should have known that a Vanessa/Rochelle led single was a bad idea from the start. Judging by the pre-orders from the album, the likes on facebook etc.. they're the least popular with the target market. That's ridiculous. Vanessa is the best singer they have. The lack of success has *nothing* to do with who sings what.
November 26, 201113 yr That's ridiculous. Vanessa is the best singer they have. The lack of success has *nothing* to do with who sings what. It's not ridiculous at all! Pop music of this kind doesn't rely on who can sing the best. Do you think tween girls like Justin Bieber because he can sing well? Or do you think they like Twilight because of the Oscar worthy performances? No. It's much more likely that you'd be interested in a song if your favourite has a lead/any part in the song. Fair enough it was badly promoted and there are other factors, but it can't have helped that the 3 most popular sing nothing in it. Rather interestingly, however, even though it looks as though this is a major flop for the band, the sales aren't that far off the first weeks for most of the other tracks. Up for example sold 28,000 to get #5, compared to the 23,000 MHTO got for #15. I guess it's just the time of year and increase in sales.. Edited November 26, 201113 yr by Scherz
November 26, 201113 yr Could've predicted this when they decided to go with MHTO to launch the album off. Let's be honest, who really wants to hear a mid-tempo ballad by the Saturdays? Not me! All Fired up then Faster or White Lies and launch the album, no messing about. They're being looked after by simpletons. The record company will struggle to break even on album sales. They must be quite lucrative in other avenues though.
November 26, 201113 yr Amazon are doing a 12 days of Christmas promotion and the album is down to £4.99... could maybe give it a last-minute Saturday sales spike? I've invested anyway, I'll think of it as my annual contribution to a charitable cause.
November 26, 201113 yr That's ridiculous. Vanessa is the best singer they have. The lack of success has *nothing* to do with who sings what. +1. That really is a ridiculous thing to say. Especially as Rochelle is the most consistent vocally in the group.
November 26, 201113 yr That's ridiculous. Vanessa is the best singer they have. The lack of success has *nothing* to do with who sings what. Totally agreed, no-one isn't going to refrain from buying an album because of who sang which bits on the lead single... THe only thing we can blame really is lack of interest, maybe mixed with a bit of 'wrong singles syndrome'.
November 26, 201113 yr +1. That really is a ridiculous thing to say. Especially as Rochelle is the most consistent vocally in the group. I'm not disputing the fact that Vanessa & Rochelle are the best vocally, but it's not ridiculous to speculate a reason why the single has flopped. It's what everybody is doing. But do you really think that people aren't interested in who sings what? It can put people off buying etc. Why do you think they have 5 individual covers for the album? Because people have favourite members.. For example, I would be less interested in a Destiny's Child song if Michelle took lead instead of Beyonce or Kelly. I'm not saying that it is the exact reason, none of us actually know the exact reason, it's just a speculation. Don't belittle it just because you don't agree. Totally agreed, no-one isn't going to refrain from buying an album because of who sang which bits on the lead single... THe only thing we can blame really is lack of interest, maybe mixed with a bit of 'wrong singles syndrome'. And I didn't say people wouldn't buy the album because of who sings what, I said the single :) - - I also purchased the album for £4.99 from amazon. Bargain! :cheer: Edited November 26, 201113 yr by Scherz
November 26, 201113 yr And I didn't say people wouldn't buy the album because of who sings what, I said the single :) I know, I was just agreeing with Jark's point in a general way :P
November 26, 201113 yr I know, I was just agreeing with Jark's point in a general way :P Naturally ^_^
November 26, 201113 yr Just bought it off Amazon too! I was going to wait to get the standard version when it became cheap in sales... but as it's cheap today, thought I may as well give them a little extra help.
November 26, 201113 yr I don't want to sound "blinded" or anything here but seriously, it's obvious the public like The Saturdays when they're doing straight up electropop (the reason why Up, Ego and Higher are their biggest hits and the likes of One Shot/Puppet/Wordshaker are the favourite album tracks) and that the public aren't keen on The Saturdays when they try and do something different (evident with Forever Is Over and Missing You flopping) so why the f*** would the label think Notorious and All Fired Up would be a success? Why the f*** did they release those marmite tracks over superior tracks like Get Ready Get Set, White Lies, Faster etc?? Did they really expect them to be hits? Why can't they take the safe option for once?? And why the hell did they release possibly the worst track (My Heart Takes Over) to launch the album? And why did they book the tour so close to the album release?! They should be out doing signings and promoting the hell out of this! You can say the public aren't connecting with The Sats, that's fine and partially true but come on, the label are taking two steps back after every step forward.
