March 17, 201114 yr Please tell me you're joking? Btw, I just voted for 'SOS'. :kink: Well, seriously. I'm a reasonable person. But sometimes things just go a bit too far imo. Just to PROVE to everybody that I am a completely reasonable person, here are my comments in the last finals for 2007 and 2008: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s...=124653&hl= I prefer Rihanna as an artist, but as a song I prefer With Every Heartbeat, hence, I voted for Umbrella! Love both songs though. A great top 2, as was 2008's.http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s...=122852&hl= Just want to say, thank you Buzzjack, for getting an absolutely incredible top 2. I LOVE both songs, and they don't sound the same as each other, like 2009's top 2... Voted for Disturbia. It's only absolutely incredible at best tbh. See, I voted out Umbrella in favour of With Every Heartbeat, and I voted out Disturbia in favour of Hot N Cold. I love Rihanna, but I can ACKNOWLEDGE that some artists come out with better songs than her from time to time. Yes, With Every Heartbeat is better than Umbrella. I agree. Fair enough. But Patience?! Better than SOS. Heck, not just SOS? Better than Smack That? Better than Pump It? Better than Something Kinda Ooooh? Better than Unfaithful? Better than Promiscous? Better than Beep? WHAT THE ACTUAL?! Edited March 17, 201114 yr by Eric_Blob
March 17, 201114 yr The highest ever vote percentages: 1. Lady Gaga - Poker Face - 77% 2. Rihanna - Disturbia - 61% 3. Rihanna & Jay-Z - Umbrella - 60% 4. ?? Rihanna - SOS ~ 50%?? Yeah, Poker Face, fair enough. It's dreadful. But, WHY IS RIHANNA SO HATED? What has she done to deserve this? Drama moment! I think is helpful to understand that when we are in the final round, there are only 2 songs! Thus mean that the percentage will be bigger than in previous rounds! So with 60%, no way a hated artist!
March 17, 201114 yr oh Eric, its just an internet poll- calm down  plus Patience will probably be out next round :P
March 17, 201114 yr Okay. Maybe I need to calm down. :( But this just really doesn't bode well for ths future of music imo. :( Now it's SOS>>>>>Unfaithful. Okay, this is hard enough to grasp as it is. But if that's what people are thinking now, what on Earth will people be thinking in 5 years time? Soon it'll be Crank That>>>>>>>>>>>>Crazy. What is the Universe coming to? :(
March 17, 201114 yr But Patience?! Better than SOS. Heck, not just SOS? Better than Smack That? Better than Pump It? Better than Something Kinda Ooooh? Better than Unfaithful? Better than Promiscous? Better than Beep? Yes to ALL OF THESE. 'Patience' most definitely is better than every single one of those songs you say. Not just because 'Patience' is a decent song, but more because all of those other songs you mention are absolutely DIRE
March 17, 201114 yr Eric, can you please stop saying Rihanna is 'hated'? That's a completely ridiculous statement.
March 18, 201114 yr Take "half of our songs are really boring and sound the same, and middle-aged women and teenage girls love us" That >>>>> Rihanna? What has the world come to. Yes, SOS isn't the greatest of songs, but have we all forgotten how snooze-worthy Patience is? Can youreally, in all honesty and sound mind, genuinely try to tell us Hips Don't Lie is a better written, constructed, played and sung song than Patience? I mean...really? :o I'm no Take That fan - but like it or not, Patience is the only all-time classic song on that list - it's certainly the only song anyone will even half remember 10 years from now. You're letting personal taste get in the way of quality songwriting..... as I said, I'm no TT fan, but Patience really is ...well... a classic.

(I mean...seriously.... are you deaf?)Whaaaaaat?

March 18, 201114 yr I think BOTH Patience and Hips Don't Lie will be remembered. I mean, Hips Don't Lie was huge everywhere in the world in Summer 2006 - people aren't going to forget THAT in a hurry. It's like how everyone remembers the Macarena, whether they want to or not  And Patience is a radio staple already and I don't see that suddenly stopping any time in the next 10 years. And I think Eric_Blob has been taking you all for a ride in this thread. Or at least I hope so, or I'm seriously worried about him now.

You're letting personal taste get in the way of quality songwriting..... as I said, I'm no TT fan, but Patience really is ...well... a classic. Take That? Classic? Yeah, it sort of helps that I HEAR IT ON THE RADIO EVERY DAY! This is the effect Heart FM is having tbh. They go "We play all the classics", and then go an play a bunch of boring mediocre songs, and all their listeners believe it's a classic after a few years of being told it every day. Again, it doesn't bode well, because they already seem to be doing this to Fight For This Love. The "most classic" songs on that list, realistically, are probably Crazy and Hips Don't Lie. Hips Don't Lie was the biggest song of the decade. That was a song that united the whole world one summer. It's a very special song and people in all cultures will remember it for years to come. Yeah, Heart FM, Radio 1 and Smooth FM don't play it? So what!! The song that is the best (i.e. the best composition of music) is probably Maneater. Patience is not a particularly difficult song to make. It's almost insulting to say that when you've got brilliant compositions like Maneater. And what about Crazy? That song is so much more complex than Patience. I can only assume you listed possibl;y the worst songs on the whole list to ridicule your point. Pump It?!?!?!? Smack That?! (I mean...seriously.... are you deaf?)Whaaaaaat?   Wow. All you've concluded there is that we have different tastes in music. I still listen to songs like Smack That and Pump It regularly, OUT OF CHOICE. I hear Patience all the time too, but I'd never choose to listen to that song again. That's just a case of "I don't like Smack That, so I assume if someone says they like it, they must be joking". That's pretty much what I'm doing with Patience tbh. March 18, 201114 yr 'Patience'. Not surprised to see 'SOS' going next though. But 'Who Knew' going out before ANY of those that are left? WTF? :(
March 18, 201114 yr Next round will be tough for me, I think I'll vote against Shakira, it will be the only song that I don't highly appreciate in the list. And Gnarls Barkley looking for the top-3 is ... WOW!
March 18, 201114 yr Take That? Classic? Yeah, it sort of helps that I HEAR IT ON THE RADIO EVERY DAY! A classic sign of a classic record, that, then.... Hips Don't Lie was the biggest song of the decade. err...WHAT?! Where? Biggest song of the decade? Are you for real? It's an absolute STINKER of a song.... a song that shows this 'lady's extremely limited and extremely annoying vocal 'ability'. Absolutely HORRIFIC. And you play Pump It out of choice? Christ.... on headphones, I seriously hope, as I'd evict you if you played such vomit in my house. Utterly naff and rancid.
March 18, 201114 yr also, Patience is nearly always in the top 1000 on itunes, surely the fact that its still selling now after almost five years indicates its heading for classic status?
March 18, 201114 yr Of course Patience is a "classic" record. It was their big comeback, first single in over a decade, and set them on the way to being the biggest British act of the last 5 years. And even though they've had some pretty big hits since they still haven't topped it in terms of success. And saying it's an 'easy song to make' is just LUDICROUS. The melody on that song is superb. And no, it's not easy to write such a strong melody just like that. But to be honest, comparing it to Maneater is dumb. Both are very good for what they are, and both rely on totally different aspects, with Maneater instead relying more on the beat/production. It's silly... if you're going to compare it to any song left, then Who Knew is easily the closest. (EDIT: Oh, just realised Who Knew is gone  I haven't been paying much attention!! Well, whatever) Edited March 18, 201114 yr by superbossanova
