Do you think the Sweet 7 Era was a success or a flop? Many think it's a flop due to the awful album chart run and sales, but there must be some good things about the era.

I would say this era was quite successful, it obviously isn't great compared to others, but there were some good things about it - the singles all reached the top 10 (they have only done this once before with 'Three') and Get Sexy was even midweek number one on the Wednesday of the week it charted. About a Girl was at number 5 and Wear My Kiss was at number 3 on the Tuesday of the week they charted. Get Sexy has outsold some of their best songs like Overload, Too Lost In You, Ugly, Red Dress, and Walk this Way, and About a Girl and Wear My Kiss have outsold some of these too, so chart and sales wise, there was nothing wrong with the singles.

On the other hand, I don't think anyone can say there was anything good about what Sweet 7 did in the chart. It debuted at number 14, the worst debut/peak since One Touch, and then fell to number 43 the following week. The album has sold just 20,000, the worst selling Sugababes album ever! Even Christina Aguelria's flop Bionic did better!

It was a major flop. Not only was it a flop, but it was also completely bad. The music sucked (and that had nothing to do with Jade replacing Keisha). It was fun for 5 seconds, but it's definitely not a CD I will ever play again (I don't even have it in my collection).

I think the reason that WMK, AAG and GS sold more than those mentioned singles is because the overall sales of music has raised in recent years (correct me if I'm wrong though). Besides, singles don't give a profit, so those sales do not really matter. Albums are there for the profit, and I'm sure the abysmal 20 thousand sales didn't do the trick.

The era was quite sucsessful singles wise, seeing as they all got top 10, and didn't fall too quickly, but album wise - MAJOR FLOP!
i love sweet 7 but it was flop :( all singles were successful, especially in my country... get sexy was big hit in serbia

3 top 10 singles sounds great... but their sales are not especially significant nowadays, as bad as their chart run. It's a pity but when you do the things hastily, it happends things like those...

Let's wait better days :)

You really can't compare singles that were not available prior to its release to others like Too Lost In You, Ugly, etc. and even more when now singles digital sales are like 3 times superior.

That said, the peak positions were good, but chart runs and sales were dire. 100k+ is bad for established acts as them (and by that I mean they are well known by the public, they get media attention, tv promo and airlplay). It's obviously not at the level of Alesha's last singles, but it wasn't good.

The impression I had with the hole project is that people didn't like them so they didn't buy the album. Just some casual buyers got into the singles and stopped there. The only positive thing they can get from this is that they know they can get some attention.

And I don't use to count Get Sexy into this era, the atmosphere at the release was totally different to AAG and WMK and it's not even the same version of the album (I know many singles have their own edits, but this is different). GS could've sold much more if they didn't stopped the promotion so suddenly when the Keisha-gate. I'd understand why someone would do it, but I wouldn't.

Whatever side you look it through, this era was a disaster for them, and they should avoid anything related to it in the future (maybe they can make an exception with AAG).

The only people who would think this era did well would be blind loons who are delusional at best.

This era haemorrhaged money. The single releases were not profitable, and say what you want about the fact they they came top 10, given the Sugababes brand is so strong in the current sales environment they should have sold in excess of 250k simple as that.

The album was a complete and utter failure. Any band who could only scrape sales of 20k after all that investment would be dropped within minutes and would have a extremely hard time getting another deal.

By alrights they should have been dropped, but the label obviously realised after they Sacked Keisha this album was going down like a lead balloon.

Flop. Really wanted to do well as I could smell a 5.0 but good that has not happened!!

If the next album does anything near the sales or less then they will be dropped!!

Mutya sold 100K+ with her album!

I'd definitely say this era flopped, yeah the singles may all have hit 100k, but thats not too hard to do these days as most songs that make the top 20 are able to achieve that feat, and sales are generally much higher than they were back in the day, i mean songs like In The Middle and Caught In A Moment both hit #8 and sold around 50k in total, these days a song will sell that much in one week to get to #8. Not to mention they all fell fast, had they been released after the album, assuming it was selling really well, it might have been more respectable or understandable. Also they failed to convince anyone to buy the album, you would think 3 top 10 singles should have at least guaranteed the album would debut in the top 10, yet it reached #14 and fell out of the top 40 the next week.
OMG the album only sold 20k? You're kidding :|

Just over 19k is the last official tally we have for Sweet 7.

At the very most it's done 25k.

When Mutya Buena has outsold you by a factor of 5 and your in Siobhan's territory for sales figures there is no other way to describe the era than epic fail.

I thought it sold like 30k, not 20k-25k :o Still shocking even if it managed 30 tbh!
That's awful. This thread is a flop for even contemplating it to be a success!

Big dirty flop!

Wear My Kiss however remains AMAZING

Singles-wise I wouldn't describe it as a flop. Although everyone is saying it's the only era (besides Three) to have all of it's single in the top 10, yet it only had 3 singles, where as AWDF, Three and TIMW all had 3 top ten singles.

But yeah, the album flopped. That can not be denied in any way possible. I do actually like the album though, no horrific tracks other than Give It To Me Now.
