Posted April 25, 201115 yr Wombats unlikely to deny Adele Source: MW Tuesday April 26, 2011 By Paul Williams Singles On the singles chart, Interscope/Polydor release Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO featuring Lauren Bennett & Goonrock is shaping up for a third week at number one as Def Jam/Mercury’s former chart-topper On The Floor by Jennifer Lopez featuring Pitbull becomes its new closest challenger. The RCA single Beautiful People by Chris Brown featuring Benny Benassi, which was fifth on last Sunday’s chart, is presently ranked third, while Capitol/Parlophone’s Sweat by Snoop Dogg is fourth. The Ministry of Sound single Unorthodox by Wretch 32 featuring Example is fifth having debuted at two on last week’s chart. The only brand new release currently registering in the Top 40 is Guilt by UK dance duo Nero. The MTA/Mercury single is in sixth position. Albums The Wombats are heading for their first-ever UK Top 10 album this week but the opening-week sales of their second studio set This Modern Glitch are unlikely to be enough to see off Adele. The 14th Floor/Warner Bros band currently have the week’s second-biggest artist album, according to OCC data, as they trail Adele’s 21 by around 6,600 sales. The XL album returned to number one after a week’s absence last Sunday and is now heading towards its 14th week at the top. Alongside The Wombats, whose first album A Guide To Love, Loss & Desperation reached number 11 in 2007, there is also the possibility of Emmylou Harris achieving a first UK Top 10 album. Her brand new Nonesuch/Warner Bros set Hard Bargain is presently ranked in eighth position, although there is a good chance other albums will overtake it by week’s end, denying it a Top 10 debut. As things currently stand, Harris is joined among the Top 10 sellers by fellow veteran US country artist Steve Earle whose newly-issued I’ll Never Get Out Of This World Alive is in 10th position at this point in the week. Earle’s highest-charting album in the UK to date is The Hard Way, which reached 22 in 1990. In total there are nine newly-released albums showing up in the Top 40 positions, a list including a final set from Universal’s A-Ha and the second album from RCA’s Jennifer Hudson. April 26, 201115 yr Nice first mid position for Guilt :D I have a bad feeling it'll do a Gramophonedzie though and fall to around #12 by Sunday :( Surprised Foo Fighters are still ahead of 19 in the albums, wouldn't be too surprised if 19 overtakes them by the end of the week. Probably won't overtake The Wombats but we don't have sales so who knows? She's on Graham Norton this week isn't she? We could have an Adele top 2 again :lol: Great for Bruno in the top 10, Aloe Blacc climbing (hopefully top 20 by Sunday) and Noah And The Whale back in the top 40. They'll probably get knocked out by the two new Glee songs though. Which 3 songs have left the top 40 to let Nero, Alexis and Noah in? I assume just Ke$ha, The Wanted and Dionne? They're currently at 13 & 29 (plus 2 more versions outside the top 300) plus their EP is #7 on iTunes Albums and peaked at #3 yesterday. Added to their physicals which are probably fairly decent compared to most other songs as dance songs often have big-ish physical sales on their first week, #6 seems about right. I was expecting #7/8 though.
