July 17, 201113 yr Author That was a rubbish finale though. It just didn't feel like an event. I guess they're making budget cuts and in past the final task has been the most expensive but it was also used to prove a candidate's worth - if you can manage a team of people you've beaten and work with them when by rights they should be bitter as hell about being knocked out then you're pretty much a natural team player. I know the prize was different this year but because we didn't get to see any of the business plans come to fruition it just wasn't particularly exciting.
July 17, 201113 yr That result really threw me, and here is Sandeesh to show us how I reacted. http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j11/NotPatrick/The%20Apprentice/NewPicture110-4.jpg Wrong result in my opinion, I was convinced Susan had it right up until he fired her. Helen's idea sucked and her making up some $h!t about biscuits in the end just shot herself in the foot. Jim never stood a chance anyway but from what it came across, Susan's idea was the only workable one. Heck even Queen Margaret seemed to like her. IT'S SO UNFAIR. Helen trying to show human emotion was painful viewing aswell. As was the fake elevator guy.

I know the prize was different this year but because we didn't get to see any of the business plans come to fruition it just wasn't particularly exciting. I kind of have to agree. I can see why it was necessary to do it this way given the nature of the prize; at the end of the day the business plan is just as an important if not a more important factor when deciding who to invest in. I think the concept of the prize is flawed in itself though, in that essentially the Apprentice stopped being the Apprentice and became a Dragon's Den clone instead for the finale. And much as I'm thrilled Tom won, I can see that Helen would have great cause to feel aggrieved. In a past series she would have made for the EASIEST hiring of all-time. The contestants spend all those months taking in part in the tasks, which ultimately don't actually mean ANYTHING because in the end it all comes down to the business idea instead. But yes, the interviews felt that they were over far too quickly and there wasn't enough fighting and drama in the final boardroom. I think I'd have actually preferred a 2 hour finale focused solely on the interviews/decision rather than having it crammed into an hour and then wasting another hour hearing what Michael McIntyre thinks of the whole thing and seeing some clips of Jim wearing a brown turd drawn on Microsoft Paint.

Basically, THIS. Perfect explanation.
July 17, 201113 yr Are they REALLY scrapping his chair idea and effectively reverting to selling his curved nail files? DEAR LORD! (Sugar)
July 17, 201113 yr Are they REALLY scrapping his chair idea and effectively reverting to selling his curved nail files? DEAR LORD! (Sugar) It very much sounds like it doesn't it? Which kind of makes a mockery of the episode we've just seen.
July 17, 201113 yr This year's series has almost been Pavel/Hitstastic styled in it's reveal of the winner - talk about having someone shoot up over the last few votes to steal victory! :o For a split second I thought I was still in the Unknown Pleasures thread.
July 17, 201113 yr It very much sounds like it doesn't it? Which kind of makes a mockery of the episode we've just seen. Not just the episode, it makes a mockery of the entire series. He may as well have just asked people to send in a list of their current abilities and chosen which he liked the sound of.
July 17, 201113 yr I can't help but feel that telling Helen she would have won in any other series will only make her go on a murderous rampage even more. (In my head Helen is a serial killer on the side.)
July 17, 201113 yr Not just the episode, it makes a mockery of the entire series. He may as well have just asked people to send in their current abilities and chosen which he liked the sound of. Indeed. It suggests he was only interested in investing in an existing business, in which case why even bother wasting the time of contestants he KNEW from the beginning didn't have their own business at the time? And it also wipes out his justification for firing Helen, which was based solely on her business plan. If he was willing to disregard Tom's original plan, then maybe he SHOULD have just gone into partnership with Helen and done the same for her. I like Tom but I can't even pretend that he was a better contestant than her.
July 17, 201113 yr Are they actually changing it then? I must have missed that bit. All I heard was LS say the chair would need tweaking....
July 17, 201113 yr Author The whole thing has been so obviously a joke for a couple of series now. I noticed last year that it was becoming more clearly scripted and staged and ruthlessly edited to make everybody look like a total idiot and it did ruin my enjoyment of the series and it's why I barely watch any of this year's. I think the format is a bit tired now. The new prize was a good idea for my money (the old 'prize' was inevitably a boring job in Sralun's most BORING company offshoot - no wonder every winner quits after a year) but it did make some of the tasks and the format of the series as a whole pretty nonsensical.
July 17, 201113 yr Are they actually changing it then? I must have missed that bit. All I heard was LS say the chair would need tweaking.... He said they were researching new avenues for the nail file business. Which is presumably going to be depleting some of the £250k investment available for the chairs.
July 17, 201113 yr great result! :cheer: I think that's the first time my favourite right from the start has won ^_^ he may not have been that vocal or ruthless, but he clearly has good ideas and is a very nice guy to back it up - and he's an inventor for goodness sake, exactly what Sir Alan needs I think the final 4 went in the right order really, Helen and Jim were always at a disadvantage as they don't own a business, Susan had a good idea, but just handled it wrong  You're Hired was amazing too :D Edited July 17, 201113 yr by Chart Wizard
July 17, 201113 yr I am glad Tom won, he was nice throughout and he has the passion, shown by setting up his own buisness. I think all the others would be really sucsessful on their own, but Tom needs someone like Sugar to complement him, and I think with his support, he will do very well. I feel a lot for Helen as if it was an Apprentice, she would have won it easily. Also, even though I wanted Susan to win, I am pleased as she will do well, especially with the deal Sugar is talking about. You're Hired was the best bit of the final though. Michael McIntire was hilarious, and I laughed a lot more than I should of at Alan's suicide plan and Karen and Nick being his stalkers
July 17, 201113 yr YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! http://broni.es/images/emotes/ppartytime.png http://broni.es/images/emotes/mlp-fyay.png My favourite from the start won! And I think he deserves it. While his idea was a bad as all the others, it could do great with some tweaking from Lord Sugar. It'll be interesting to see where they are with this idea a year from now. And his story was so cute and adorable. Helen was never going to win with that plan, so as soon as Susan went, I knew he'd win.
July 17, 201113 yr This show has never been about the winner for me because Sugar notoriously makes terrible decisions year after year. It's brilliant entertainment though and never fails to disappoint on that front.
