If only Radio1 could get the fuck over themselves like ASAP and play Eric Saade it could actually be a proper hit.

It has masses of potential. It's a catchy, brilliant pop track with a ridiculously obvious hook.

Radio 1 have already ignored Dirty Talk, they can't miss another obvious hit. If they playlisted Popular, it'd be top 10 for sure!

There's more chance of them playlisting an Alexandra Burke cover of Agadoo than there is them playlisting Eric Saade, lets be honest.

Radio 2 playlisted Satellite after the contest last year, I don't really expect them to add anything this year although Running Scared would fit on the playlist very nicely indeed actually :o

Exactly! It's not as if it'd sound of out place on the Radio1 playlist.

We miss out on so much brilliant, high quality music because Radio1 won't play stuff from Scandinavia.

It's Alexandra Burke, she's British.

She could burp the phone book and they'd A-list it.

That's absolutely 100% not true. R1 love Scandinavia (mostly for dance music though I guess). They just hate Eurovision.

Just curious, do you actually follow the R1 playlist? They HATE Alexandra Burke and haven't even C-Listed any of her singles since Broken Heels.

They always snub her actually :o

If it was All Time Low or Plan B burping the phone book, I can see your point

Scandi-pop has been ignored on Radio 1 since Agnes' last single smashed in at #40...Phil's talking about the likes of Tove Styrke, Mans Zelmerlow, Ola, Danny, Anna Abreu, Tone Damli etc...most have attempted to launch in the UK and been completely snubbed.

Scandi-dance is a different beast altogether.

But Silas said R1 'don't play stuff from Scandinavia' which isn't true. Fair enough they do ignore Scandipop but that's not the only Scandinavian music.

For the record I'm not defending R1's decision to not playlist Eric Saade, I'm just defending the fact they don't discriminate against music just because it's Scandinavian.

I gave up on the playlist after they failed to put On A Mission on there. Was completely frustrating to see a brilliant track not reach it's potential because of Radio1. I do occasionally pop in and leave in sheer frustration at the utter garbage they've playlisted.

I don't see why they even bother, some of that stuff wouldn't get to the top20 if they gave it away.

Has September ever been playlisted? I know Agnes reluctantly was after it had already got a brilliant chart position.

Last time I checked Tone Damli and Caro Emerald both were not in Eurovision, yet UK Radio stations have just snubbed them [Except for Radio2] This country doesn't give European music airtime and it's shocking. As much as I hate it, look at Alors On Dance. Massive European hit and everyone here was too busy rimming America to care.

September was with Cry For You and Can't Get Over definitely...Agnes was actually on the a-list before she charted top 3 I think, so I'll give them that one, they were probably a large part of the reason behind her success. Which is why it's so frustrating to see Scandipop ignored ever since, Popular a-listed is clearly a top ten smash waiting to happen.

I suppose they think that they're filling their quota of European pop music by shoving it all on Radio 2

They're not entirely to blame of course, at least the BBC between them support these songs occasionally - Heart and Capital wouldn't touch them with a bargepole and I'm seriously struggling to see why Caro Emerald wouldn't be PERFECT for Heart...

IIRC R1 was actually fairly quick off the ball with Release Me and they playlisted INYN as well. (They ignored On & On though)

And AFAIK they gave good support to both of September's hits as well.

Also, R1 did playlist Alors On Danse. They were pretty much the only station in the UK supporting it and the main reason it even went top 30.

It's true they don't give *enough* airtime to European music (specifically European pop music - I get your criticism fully for that) but I don't think it's fair to say they don't give it any. On the current R1 playlist there's Alex Gaudino on the A-List, Alexandra Stan, Justice and Swedish House Mafia (also David Guetta) on the B-List and Vato Gonzalez on the In New Music We Trust List.

Exactly! White Light Moment was one of last years best songs. It'd be perfect for Radio1!

I would have though from the context it was glaringly obvious that Pop music was what we were talking about here. Rather than dance.

While the Swedish House Mafia have got playlisted, the featured artists are British and American rather than Scandinavian.

So, for the overly pedantic out there I'll restate my initial gripe.

Radio1 don't playlist a lot of brilliant pop music because it's from Scandinavia.

Someone on DS forums actually COMPLAINED about them ignored her, and they sent back some BS about her 'not fitting in with the viewers taste' When they playlist the likes of Jessie J, Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Scherzinger and Beyonce, who are all very similar. God knows why they hate her so much! As for them totally ignoring Scandi-pop gems like White Light Moment, Hysteria, All Over The World and Butterflies - if they (particularly Hysteria) were by a UK/US artist they'd be playlisted (not hat I'm calling R1 xenophobic, they just seem to hate Scandi-pop). White Light Moment sounds like it would suit Ellie Goulding out of the R1 faves, I bet if it was released by her it would be STRAIGHT to A-List!

With this R1 playlist bashing I expect marrb will be coming out of its cave soon...

 Does she like anything?

I don't think I was being pedantic. There's a very big difference between 'Scandi-pop' and 'music from Scandinavian artists'. It just sounded to me like you were accusing R1 of discriminating against Scandinavians. But whatever...

Doesn't the whole chorus consist of "I will be popular"?

It's not exactly groundbreaking and tbh I wouldn't say it's playlist worthy.

But I agree that Radio 1 should playlist more European non-UK/US songs. Maybe the reason we always do rubbish in Eurovision is because European acts do rubbish in our charts.

Bray, you're nearly always pedantic.

Bray, you're nearly always pedantic.

Thanks for pointing that out, that doesn't make my last post invalid.
